Foxglove looks a wonderful boat. I can understand your frustration at the delays but everything has been affected by Brexit and Covid etc for supplies and deliveries, it’s a real pain to get anything done building wise. When Foxglove arrives and you are out on the water enjoying your new boat I hope the memories of these delays will fade and wish you many great adventures.🙂😺🦊🌿
It looks close Lorna, I'm sure I've seen that fox somewhere near Kingsbury. 😉 Are canal boats launched with a bottle of champagne, I think " Foxglove" should be, a nice pink one !!
Yes. Indeed narrowboats are launched with champagne. However what with narrowboaters being exceedingly "thrifty" the champagne is converted to a sterile fluid first. Protection of paintwork and so forth. In fact narrowboats are being continuously "re-christened" with the same sterile fluid for years after. You might suppose it's easy to aim at the canal itself ... but it's not. Some blokes don't always feel obliged to stop cruising, not even for a moment ... Not all benefits bestowed by the Almighty are enjoyed by both genders on an equal basis. I don't suppose all ladies can write their name in the snow either ...

Thank you for the update. The night is darkest just before dawn and boat building might be similar in that you've already waited for far too long for Foxglove but look how close to finished it is. From outside it is stunning. It's horrid having all your hopes and dreams delayed but they are just delayed, not cancelled. Can't wait to see you out on the water with your gorgeous cat. Next year will be better. 😊
Season's Greetings and all that. Will presume no update as yet? It occurs to me that if nothing else the paintwork will setting off and curing hard enough to resist the first brush with the bastard thorns and branches overhanging the non towpath side. Looking forward to launch day!
Our Beetle is almost done. It's lovely but 18 months late! Has been almost ready for months. I understand how frustrating the delays and unpredictability are. It will be worth it. The sign writer is a genius.
Can emphasise totally but hang in there. The artwork is brilliant. Celebrate the small steps like how gorgeous that is despite being totally p* off about everything else. It looks close enough, surely, for a 2024 Spring launch. 2023 has been a shite year for most people we know and we’ve certainly had better - onwards. Setbacks do suck being honest and it is disappointing to see that Foxglove have been set back but don't give up on your dream, it be worth the wait and the artwork on Foxglove is impressive and cute, really like it.
They haven't sourced an engine, then? I speculate of course. But, I don't need to speculate on the artwork, at all. Signwriter person definitely knows their trade alright. Will look forward to you taking ownership and hope David does the shooting so you can just enjoy navigating on your maiden voyage. Changing the topic slightly ... are you and/or David intending to visit the upcoming trailboat event at Moira perchance? I speculate, again, David could get Twiggy to Snarestone and thence to Moira via the puddles and morning dew as his new boat only draws about half an inch.

A you tube channel called Gladys the narrowboat just popped up and he is having his built at same place his is being fitted out outside then he done a tour inside showing your boat.

Love the colour and the name , we had a Narrowboat called Foxglove, LMS. It brought us many happy years so I’m sure yours will too. Looking forward to seeing the inside. It will all be worth it xx
Someday you'll look back on this and - still not be happy about it. But you'll have the boat and be on the water, and that might make up for things a bit. In the meantime, David can take you out on his canary boat!

Can you inform me of the name? Can't wait till your new videos make their appearance staring your New boat.
Nothing like a company over promising and under delivering. Hopefully they will offer you some form of discount for the delays. Did you have any completion date included in your contract of build? If so they have failed you big time. Hopefully you will be on the water soon.
Feel your pain Flamingo Girl. Over promising, bullshit and missed deadlines seem now to be present in everyday transactions, however big, small or ordinary. In my world communication and truth are king. Tell me straight and keep me informed so I can plan. It's not difficult to do and earns respect from day one. Anything else makes you look like you don't care,and in business that's not a good look. Love the paintwork and sign-writing, very professional and "stand-out". It's going to look fab. Hang in there F.G., seems it's going to be worth it. x
The only problem is that some boatyards might be scratching about for work and might be less candid than customers would like. It's inevitable that we will learn the name of the boatyard and that might have a bearing on "future" customers looking for a boat builder. It might be that a third party, with no connection to either boatyard or Lorna, has no qualms about criticising said boatyard. Reputation counts for a lot on the cut where customers are concerned. It is not unheard of for poor reputations to be discussed all along the network.
We know who makes the Aintree Beetle. One of 6 builders we visited in 2021. Our boat will be ready in Jan 24, 8 months after hull started. Decisions had to be made on alternative power due to engine supply difficulties but glad we chose someone else.
It is a month on from this vlog so I do hope that things have progressed for you Lorna. Everything about the little boat seems to have been taking ages and must be so frustrating. However, look on the bright side, you will have so many adventures and may even take your 'boat husband' on some lovely cruises. Happy new year.
Just HANG ON! It is going to be SO worth all this frustration when you are IN this wonderful and special boat. The Foxglove color is fantastic. You WILL live aboard; keep the faith.
Here's hoping that shortly, you get that welcome and surprising telephone call, asking you "when do you wish to launch?" In the meantime, we'll look for you in David's channel(s), as well as Jen's.
I can fully sympathise with you. I was a live aboard boater for about 7 years and took my boat into a boat yard to be fully resprayed. The 6-8 week estimate turned into a year at which point - they still hadn't finished the work - I decided to take it elsewhere to another boat yard to complete the work. The second boat yard's 3 month estimate turned into 8 months and so in total I was without my boat for almost two years. It was frustrating, costly and, as you say, disappointing. Every milestone was missed and I was continually lied and bullshitted to by both boat yards. It took the shine and excitement off the whole experience which I had also been looking forward to. I've got the boat back but I don't suppose my boating life will be the same after that experience. Luckily the second boat yard did a great job (although there were some issues that I decided to just swallow rather than try and press the boat yard to fix) and the boat looks great but after being without my boat for two years, things aren't the same. Good luck with yours! It's looking grand.
The colour of your boat is absolutely gorgeous 😍 Delays are so frustrating - I hope you get her early in the New Year and I hope you can bring her up the T&M sometime to Shardlow - imagine how cute NB Sea Glass and NB Foxglove would look together - like Mother and Daughter 😍
Don't get too frustrated LJ. This is beyond your control and probably partly outside your builders too. Parts, people availability and cost are big factor in any construction at the moment. Keep focus and stay excited

But it looks like 2024 will be such a fantastic year for you as you catch up with the people and places you had planned for this year. You will be able to "tower" over David in his new boat! As I said on Patreon, the name art is utterly gorgeous! I love the fox, he (she?) came out great. As for the delays, you have more patience than I do; I'd be on the warpath by now as this has taken far too long.
Ugh. I first saw my boat in September, and had an offer accepted. I certainly hoped to be onboard for Christmas, but even the process of buying a boat is much more long winded than I expected, nevermind building! I finally got her home last month. Hang in there, it will be worth it!
Just to re-iterate, you _can_ change the name of a narrowboat, you are not stuck with it forever, it's a matter of a few forms and some admin. Ofcourse you can change the name, imagine all the people who named their boats after some celebrity who later turns out to be a very very bad person indeed. It would be absurd not to let them change the name. Now, as for superstitions around it being unlucky... we'll you'll just have to get over it, statistics say it's not.
You can come any play on mine, to get you boat 'Fix' You will need a paint brush, for inside touch up, and you never know, dinner on the cards also. Keep the faith.
The one lesson life keeps hitting me over the head with is that "nothing is easy", especially if you're pursuing something interesting. Best of luck, I bet the frustrating memories will fade once your plans are back on track.
it's a very difficult thing, waiting for a boat to be ready,in our case we gained from the waiting for engine parts,as we fitted our boat out ourselves.but it was still frustrating at times.you boat looks great and she will be ready soon,once that happens your life is yours again xx Alex and Maria
Wow what fantastic artwork Lorna the colours are gorgeous of your new boat easy boat to transport anywhere too 🚛 I have a Midway 23 ft 5 so nice to be able to turn it anywhere just for a change of view sometimes so no more winding holes for you time will fly by now as it's only the small jobs now take care from David !! Not the David with his luxury cruiser 😃👍
I moved off my boat for a survey early May 2021. It needed over plating and blacking and a load more jobs but i didnt expect to still be sofa surfing now. Im 54 and have a little dog. I stayed with a friend for a week then my son fir 6 months then to my sisters house for nearly a year and now im at another son's house. Most of that time ive not had a car so not been able to get to my boat much. I dont know how long it will be now until its finished. But im keeping my chin up because i know at some point i will be back home and very happy 🙏 one thing is for sure you and i will be on our boats next year 😊
Love the colour and the artwork - awesome - but omg you have patience’s of a saint. How long does it take to build your new boat ! Honestly, I totally get how a lot of this feels. So many things in my life have been very slow progress over years or even a decade. It can be hard to feel like any progress is even real, sometimes. But it always is real, and it's always still worth doing!
Lorna, well done and a big hug for dealing with what has happened and for being so upfront and honest about something that clearly has been a horror story, through no thought of your own. I think all of us completely get it and can read between the lines. You controlled your words and emotions very well. You're right, the colour!! and sign writers art work is amazing. When your boat was outside and was a sort of matte pink I thought omg what is she doing but when I saw her on Gladys the narrowboat’s update of his boat this week I have to say that I was wrong she looks absolutely amazing I’ve watched all of your videos please keep us updated.
Keep your spirits up, thought it would be done by now but as we are in winter closures, and it’s cold on the water, so you might prefer the house for the next 3 months, but looking forward to seeing you out cruising come 2024 season

I think it was the wrong time to not underestimate the difficulties about boat building! Just talk to anyone who has a slightly larger building or craftsman-project going on ... ! ! So, I would say that probably nobody is actually B-S-ing you. The problem is, I believe, that deliveries take loads of time all over the world. Wish you all the best! And I just hope that once you have your boat, it is going to be everything you wanted it to be! The artwork is really phenomenal! Thanks for the update and ... watch you when I watch you (hopefully soon).
post covid build drama!! every thing getting parts post covid is a major pain and the quality is total crap!! and you can put up fairy lights when ever you like!! the joys of being a adult LOL
