Not really, the thing is in fish markets they use large and sharp knives/cleavers thus the chopping is faster but more crude I also believe this could be done faster but Nick and Gordon were trying to have precise cuts most likely because of the Guiness rules (like when push ups don't count if you do it with a bad posture etc) and it doesn't really matter about how clean the cuts are in a fish market so it just goes by.
@@rerth6975 it's the exact opposite...in a market they buy the fish, fillet it and then sell it, they absolutely do not want to cut too shallow and throw away a lot of the flesh because it cuts into their profit. Gordon is not the best with a knife,.there are plenty of people who can do this a lot quicker.

Doesn't mean he's the fastest, just holds the record because the guiness records guys actually gave him time to do it. Travel to most Asian countries and you will realize he can't beat any of those ordinary market traders.
Exactly, I worked in the seafood department at a Whole Foods for years, after a week anyone could do that and do it way better. The dude left a ton of meat on the skin

i think im becoming gordon myself then because he really did waste a lot of damn fish on the skin the amount of fish he wasted is how much of it i get on christmas, my god. what a waste.
I was thinking it’s probably a butchering rather then a filleting lol. He also didn’t weigh any of them and get an exact amount of pieces, plus he’s using a different fish too🤣
And waste less fish in the process and prob cut the salmon on point by weight… each one less than a gram off from the rest…. Just saying if ya gonna do it , do it right…speed don’t trump quality unless you McDonald’s…could take an extra 40 seconds and save an extra 40 dollars worth of fish from being shredded into canned salmon or tossed…
I went to Japan for vacation. And seen a Japanese guy in a fish market do this in 30 seconds. They wear special gloves that have metal sheathing in the fabric to prevent cutting their fingers. Their knives are so sharp they don't have to do the forwards & backward movement to cut, they just move in one direction and it cuts like a hot knife through butter. And they are very accurate when cutting. Every time you blink, they finished filleting.

@@darutoafro Fillet is supposed to be proper. Otherwise anyone can cheat to break records. Ramsey's fillets look well shaped and well proportioned but these look really wasteful. Use common sense if you have any.

It could be top by someone working in the butcher section that fillets salmon for yrs. I work in a hotel and i know a few guys. I help in the butcher area from time to time and we would literally fillet salmon by the hundreds everyday. Some days we would even fillet close to a thousand. Theres only 3 of us. And i tell you this guy would fillet that fish perfectly under 10 secs. They move so fast and precise like a machine and its expected since they have done it for yrs everyday of their life. Why i laughed when gordon acted out his narcism claiming his the fastest. I know that even himself knows that his not the fastest and a lot of guys are faster than him that actually do this kind of work everyday for yrs.
I used to filet whole salmon at a grocery store my boss would’ve had my ass if I left that much on the skin shit takes so much longer though because the skin is so delicate.

The thing is, when you pay as much as he did for the Guiness world record guy to show up, your almost guaranteed a win. They probably made some weird add on aswell, like "Fastets to fillet a fish in an online video" or some shit like that, as to not mess with Gordon's actual record
