This is one of the best videos you’ve made so far. As a Christian I feel like you were speaking things that have been on my heart lately, especially about distraction and gratitude. The enemy wants us to stay distracted and insatiable, so that we will not focus on our relationship with Jesus.
Hello there. Im a muslim. Your video somehow can be relatable to my faith as well. Overconsumption kills. Count your blessings. Make use to everything you have around you. Do not simply waste your resources.
Thank you for this! Love that you share about the blessing of a minimalist lifestyle from a believer’s perspective. Love that you are vocal about your faith and making Jesus a priority. True fulfillment and joy, peace is found in Him ❤️
You are exactly right. Consumers rely their happiness on material things and possessions. I sold a lot and donated a lot from a 1600 sq ft house to a 10x15 storage unit. I only have 5 pieces of furniture. I'm still going through more stuff at the storage tomorrow. Due to skyrocketing rent, I have decided to live in my truck to simplify my life with little things. I plan not to rent a year to save up for a homestead to build a tiny house. I realize that God is my priority. Excessive stuff and shopping do distract you away from God. It's so true! I'm glad that you made this video. People need to wake up and hear the truth. Treasure your life in heaven, not on earth.
@lightandmind77 I agreed. I don't understand how people can afford the rent. All their expenses are higher than their income. There is no way to survive with high inflation. I'm looking into buying a trailer and moving it every 14 days while I work. I don't need much. If I live in my truck for a year to save $23,000 in rent, I can buy a land to build. City life is not a choice for a home base.
One of my friends was telling me some of the things she has bought because of ads from IG. I was thinking how I loved IG before all the ads and how I just skip them all now. It is really sad how everywhere we go, we are targeted personally with ads. I agree with you about how we need to fill our lives with God instead of this stuff that has taken over our lives. Society is the most unhappy and godless than I have seen it and I am sure there is a deep connection between what is consumed and that aspect. People think I am crazy when I say I hate stuff and don't want to want! You are right about how so many people don't have homes or clean water. When I was a youth leader, we did an event where we had everyone live as if they were a refugee and it was an all nighter. Some people had to wear glasses with tape over an eye, they had to walk to get water. . and it was also a fast. There was a lot more involved in it and we had a permission slip and made sure kids ate if they were having issues, but it was eye opening for them to understand how much they had compared to a refugee. Madame Blueberry is a lovely Veggie Tale. The Grateful heart is a happy heart is a great song and I say that to my children haha. "That's why I say thanks every day!" Keep spreading light out there!
I am reading Freedom of Simplicity, which all about Simplicity as a Christian faith discipline, and i was thinking as I read it, how much more I connect to the idea of minimalism for the sake of my faith, and for the sake of understanding the poor so as to better pray for them and deepen my conviction to share what I have... I also found myself thinking how I do not hear that message anywhere online, so i was glad to listen to this today!
The same thing has happened to me with minimalism. I have more time with Jesus and to go out in nature and that is what I wanted. Very good video. God bless you for making it. Wise words that need to be heard ❤
wow this video connects with me so much! The way you describe making room for God in our life through minimalism is so so good! When we put things above God like shopping etc, and spend more time shopping than we do with Jesus, we go down a harsh path. He has given us everything we need and we are beyond blessed, but the enemy puts wants and desires for earthly things in our minds to distract us from our true meaning and calling in life-following God
You make a good point. I should really have realised it sooner that I should put God first not stuff. But it is hard because I have a shopping addiction. I have been trying and failing to shop less (only for what I need, but the excitement gets me time and time again). I managed a week without shopping and then I had a lapse where I bought, like, 5 things that I didn’t need and just wasted my money. But I love them, I don’t wanna have to return them. Hope I can stop overshopping.
I know what you mean. I was the same way for so long. It is so easy to run to shopping for the answer, but it truly will never fulfill us the way we think it will. Good luck on your journey. I hope you find peace🤍
What does your shopping prevent you from feeling? You can answer that for yourself. We stay away from painful/unpleasant feelings and memories in our bodies by keeping busy and bringing temporary ‘happiness’ in our lives. It is not about what not to do, like shopping, it is about what to do: being present with ourselves, stop running away (and leave ourselves/our inner child), and feel all that need to be felt. The feeling that comes up when you don’t shop (unease, restlessness, feeling agitated), that is exactly where you need to go, and dip your toes in ❤️🩹
I have always felt like the smartphone was placed on earth as a test and we have all failed. I hope society wakes up to these constant temptations/distractions.
