Reviving and buying a true 1970 IH 1456 Gold Demo! First start in 14 years! Socials: @tmonteIH Website: territorialtrading.com Email: montgomeryfarms93@gmail.com
I never understood why people painted the Gold Demos red. They were unique in their gold clothes. Absolutely awesome! I love the 1456 anyway, and when they're a gold demonstrator they're priceless.
@tmonteIH Ya, it seems I heard that some where, I just didn't know if that was true or not. But they definitely look better in their gold look! Thank you for the info.
Real farmers ain't into "bling" & don't need nor want their equipment to stand out. Nothing like today's generation, screaming, "Look at me, look at meeeee!!!"
I have been a fan of international tractors my entire life. I drove a 1566 for a few years and I could listen to that engine and turbo sing for hours on end. Love Big Red.
Love your channel bro, I’m a restoration guy and that tractor was born gold, it needs to go back to the way she was born. Love it, good luck I’ll be watching.
By far my favorite tractor ever made. When I was a kid I lived next to a farm. The farmer had a IH and I used to go outside and climb a tree and watch the tractor (I was scared of it but intrigued by it lol)
Nice find. The 56 series tractors are my favorite. My neighbor has two 1456's. One is an open station and the other one has a cab. He has a 1256 with a cab too. He still farms with them. I like the open station the best. That 6030 was super sweet too!
I think the paint kind of tells a story. If you were to paint it you’d get rid of the signs that it’s a true demonstrator. I like your idea of giving it a bath and then maybe touch some things up here or there.
Having double cables ensures a minimal voltage drop. The further away the batteries are from the starter the higher the drop. It can prevent premature starter failure and really helps crank speed in colder temperatures.
Awesome find. As far as the paint if you want it gold you will probably have to strip it and paint it. The 2nd coat of red paint looks like you might get it off, but the 1st coat looks like it is bonded pretty well. Sanding will probably burn through the gold paint. That's a neat old tractor, just a shame someone cut the axles off.
You have gotten your dream tractor and the orbital pump started working on the steering after the clean oil came in after frantic turning on the steering. Everything is great except the rear axels which were cut off with a torch so as to be easier to feed cattle. I like the colors better as they are except for new paint. I would be willing to bet the air con still works. Haven't really heard of the Plainsman air con but if she works it's good.
You probably already know it but the hydraulics is connected to the power steering. If you are low in hydraulic fluid it won't steer. So Check the fluid levels. If recollection serves it takes about 15 gallons on 1456.
It's a tractor from back when tractors had really good steel in all of the components. It's a tractor for level ground and not for undevel ground. It's definitely a solid tractor.
I know this is not a new video but if it were my tractor, I would blast all the old paint off the outside only, keeping the gold original inside, and do the original paint back on the outside. Lucky find !
Whoever cut those axels off didn't know how to use the drawbar! Kind of a shame. But great find! I just found your channel, really enjoyed this one. And i subbed. Keep us informed on this great find. I also own some ih rigs and love all of them!!
Good job my man. Just trying to bleed fuel and she's firing up for you. Second start sounded like she was parked the night before. No stuck turbo either. Have fun w the ol girl...
I love my 856, but I think the next tractor I look for will be a 12 or 1456.. Granted, a 656 or 756 would make more sense from an “only doing hay” perspective.. but the heart wants what it wants.
Enjoying your channel. I'm new here. Not sure if you answer questions. But do you know if the 1456 is on the same frame and has the same bull gears as the 856?
@@tmonteIH Thanks for taking the time to reply. I should have worded my question better. What I'm curious about is if the axial housings bigger on the 1456 than the 856?
I saw the 403! Ive got one too! What are the odds! Not sure how many are out there. Could you put me in contact with them? Im interested and got some questions.
I've got a 4020 that needs a little TLC. A truck to finish regular maintenance on. A basket case baler to put together. I have enough for awhile. That I H C tractor was a full load , rite?
you got to be a man to step on the clutch,,,,love hyd seat,,,,but very loud in cab,,,,my grampa bought one brand new,,,,,we still got it,,,,nobody will drive it
I understand lopping the axles off... but damn they didn't have to turn an angry beaver loose on them. That's the first time I've seen an IH with a steering problem... today. Never knew about belly tanks, but we are mostly row crops around here. I kind of skipped through the video. Did you touch the TA?
@@tmonteIH Cool deal. A guy could swap axles out easy enough. Then it's a question of how far does a guy go to restore it. Personally... I always go too far... Way way too far.
@@tmonteIH I like bringing them all the way back and using them. Fun running old equipment that is new.... But it's a bit like pissin in the wind fiscally. Seldom get the money back out.
When you can only turn the wrench 1/4 a turn at a time it takes 8 swings to get it opened up a couple full turns. I’ve bled out plenty of tractors. Doesn’t hurt to make sure you’ve got plenty of fuel. Especially on something parked for 15 years and on a day less than 45 degrees temp.
When the 06 and 56series set for a time the pump adheres to the copper wear plate and it is ruined when you first turn yhe engine over. Pimp is right in front of the cab left side. On the engine block.
@toby0395 : Nope. Not aftermarket. Just optional. Plenty of farm tractors had multiple different available factory options. Why you think that tractors would all be identical, or equipped only one way, only shows your ignorance to all farm equipment in general.
@turbodiesel4709 Wow! You don't have to get your panties in a wad just because you "think" you know something. I grew up farming, and have stuck with it all my life. The fact that you seem to think everything that can be put on a piece of equipment is a factory option shows your ignorance of equipment. There have probably been more after market options installed on equipment than there ever has been factory ones, and many even installed by the equipments dealer or even offered through the original equipment manufacturer.
Love your channel bro, I’m a restoration guy and that tractor was born gold, it needs to go back to the way she was born. Love it, good luck I’ll be watching.
