I really appreciate your ability to admit you're not happy with a first try. It has made me able to try again and not settle for something I'm not happy with.
Wow, that's so cool that this video helped you with that! You should never have to settle in your art. Thanks so much for sharing that with me and for supporting the channel by watching.
Paper towel tube and hot glue is how I have always done trees for my toy photos - nice job! I do use my smaller hot glue gun for the bark since I think it gives it a nicer texture.
Awesome! I was honestly surprised how good the texture came out from the hot glue. Looking forward to practicing and getting better with the technique.
@@vascotoys I never used the foil - but from looking at yours it looks to help provide an uneven bulkiness to the trunk that wouldn't be there without the foil (unless you load up on glue on the carboard tube) - so I will have to try that next time!
I watch one where, they used floral wire and hot glue it. Mine isn't the way I wanted it to look. But, that's how we learn from our mistakes. I plan to try this way of tree making for my Chinese Mythical figures
Your first attempt was OK it looks more volcanic like a pillar of volcanic lava if you were to make a volcanic area diorama it would probably work good just paint it black with red's and yellow's plus some orange and it would look like a volcanic pillar to me 😊Keep up the good work and remember to owes have fun doing your project 👍🤔😊
Very cool! I like that you showed all the trial and error before finally getting a technique that works for you. Trees are something I’ve never really done too well either, so this is definitely something I can use to improve on my future attempts. Great work!
Thanks for the feedback on showing the process. Honestly, it was kind of fun to be able to show the mistakes and then rationalize what I did wrong and fix it. Seems like people liked that, so when I have the opportunity to do it in the future, I will. Good luck with your future trees!
Bro hats off to you. I would have given up after the first fumble. Those really gnarly trees would make for some good back ground in some hellish demonic scenes tho.
Thanks Andres! I definitely have given up on the foam ones I shows in the past, but just felt like it was time to try again. Good point on the background trees.
I just wanted to say this is an excellent tutorial on how to make trees I followed your steps exactly and my trees are coming out pretty good. I’m still working on all the washes. The yellow one kind of messed me up but I covered it up with some brown wash, and some black wash, keep up the videos man they’re dope
Nice work! I do a lot of painting on to hot glue, and I've found that giving it a coat or two of a spray on matte sealer gives the hot glue a bit of tooth for the paint to hold on to better.
I got a very “wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man” vibe from the XPS foam tree with branches 😂 I love how your latest attempt turned out. So realistic looking!
Yes, I would like to see a forest. And two suggestions I also saw on RU-vid. One was swimming pool noodles for tree trunks, you can cut them and glue together for thickness. Also hot glue sucks to paint, I lightly sand heavily glued areas and still use primer if needed.
Thanks Steve! Yes, I find that it is so much more rewarding when I face something I need to work on and see improvement. I guess sometimes the things we aren't good at are exactly what we should be doing.
So cool, especially the shots with Outback outside. Even your first set that you didn't like could still pass for trees on an alien planet or even Eternian trees for MotU fans! 👍
Thank you! I'm really happy you enjoy the channel. I really love this hobby and love making videos about it. I do have a few videos that show Namek dioramas, but none of them show the actual build. I love Namek, so I am sure I will do a video on a Namek build in the future.
Great video as always dude. Would love to see more videos on creating forest/jungle dioramas. Vines could be an interesting element to add to the trees and moss.
I also struggled with this and found a video ( I can't remember whose thought) and they used regular foam pipe insulation from he big box home improvement stores and simply hit them with a heat gun ( on the lowest setting) you will have to experiment and practice but in the end they look pretty cool
@@vascotoys I got an Idea going to try tonight. Brown Packing Paper. Plumbing Pipe as a mold/wrapping base, Watered down Glue as a hardener, and cheap acrylic paint. Maybe some wire for structural strength.
Not a bad idea, Quincy! I think I might try just covering them again with tin foil and doing the more realistic texture over them. Would make for thicker trees.
This is so cool! Can't wait to try this technique. using the spray bottle for the wash was a truly inspired idea! Do you typically make your washes for the project you're working on, or do you have a set of pre-made washes handy. I fine I'm pretty wasteful with washes, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!
So glad you liked the video and specifically enjoyed the spray bottle. Doing it that way really makes a difference. I typically just make a lot and save the washes in those little bottles I show in the video. Thanks for checking it out.
I also saw a maker video where they used masking tape and paper mache with paper towels instead of the hot glue. I dunno. Maybe easier and less chance of burning. Maybe a tougher method. Just food for thought.
Oh that sounds interesting! Do you by chance have a link? I think I'd like to make a bunch of trees using different methods to represent different trees in a forest.
I've actually done this before almost a similar technique but I did not use the tinfoil to be quite honest I don't think it's even needed because my results came out looking better without it
You know, I was thinking how this would work without the tin foil. I'm sure you can do it that way, but I wonder if the tin foil helps add some durability to it? Either way, glad you were able to get good results with your method.
@@vascotoys that's totally understandable but I've made mine about maybe a year-and-a-half ago and it's still standing strong so if you ever want to remake it without the tinfoil I can definitely vouch for its longevity
Yes yes yes yes yes please 🙏 you know if you want to LoL yes please make a hole forest that would be awesome that way of course I'll be able to make one lol do it though seriously also great video and tutorial I really appreciate it 😁 🦇🥷😎
