20:34 "of course, they look at the quality and they're like 'okay, he's fine'" These casual self-deprecating jokes being thrown outta nowhere make me feel Levy has enough comedian power to prepare a whole one hour stand-up show on chess.
16:55 "for now" - I really, really like that attitude! Not assuming they will be always better but actually giving yourself the chance and believe in yourself to get to their level of accuracy at some point of time seems like a really good (mental) development if you want to be GM at some point.
I know my comment will get buried, but I have a compliment for you, Gotham and I hope it finds you. I’ve watched you for 5 years now. You’re the reason I got into chess. I’m not great but I’ve climbed 800 ELO since watching your videos and buying your book. In these 5 years, I watched your fall… I saw the anxiety destroy you, I saw the games you were winning but lost from fear. I saw you quit. I saw the worst of you. But now?!? Seeing you rise and take control and change your thought process as you have? I’m so proud of you man. Like, it’s been such an incredible journey watching your growth these past 6 months. I have found myself not just rooting for you but blatantly excited for your success!! I couldn’t for the Spain recaps, I checked all throughout the day for the next uploads ! And now seeing how you dominate all the places you were weakest and seeing the changes in your games like this title Tuesday tournament. You’re an inspiration. Not just in chess, but in a greater way to show that your mind doesn’t have to be a cage. You can break out and find your victories. Congratulations on your recent successes and I look forward to when I can celebrate with you when you get that GM title!
@Danieljevans12 👏 Bravo! Seconded. Very well put: a smorgasbord of true facts. Thanks for saying what I have neither time nor skill to express so cogently and succinctly.
Beautifully said. This kind of perseverance and humble determination that Levy has shown brings me to literal tears. I share your sentiment, and it's genuinely amazing to see how the Hero's journey perpetually continues to inspire human beings no matter the epoch. I'm also rooting for Levy's triumph in his Hero's journey! Thanks for sharing your thoughts; they really resonated with me.🙏
I actually enjoyed the joy in your voice and eyes in this video. You seem happier with what you do, and I'm all for it. I hope you regain the confidence in your abilities and I hope to see you get your norms and become a GM soon!
This video was definitely one of the most entertaining recaps I've seen in your channel. The games were trepidant and beyond interesting, I love blitz games because the game is not as psychological as it is emotional; players dealing with their immediate chemical responses to danger and fear, while fighting to turn them into intelligent resolutions. Also, since you started commenting on your own games, Levy, I confess I've lost interest in the videos where you cover other players' games. It's just so interesting to see you breaking down your own thoughts, feelings and mental processes with such characteristical wit and charisma. Love this road to GM series
Your Road to GM series is very inspiring in multiple way. I just started playing chess, trying to improve a little bit every day, but I’ve been on a losing streak this past week. Then yesterday, I made my first “brilliant” move ever! Gave me a little boost to keep going.
That was crazy how you had to literally threaten him with a draw to get him to commit to an endgame. Gm - "im pretty safe here ill just improve ny position" Levy - "fine we'll draw then" Gm - "listen here you little..."
@GothamChess Levy you not only drew a legend you drew against the most funniest player in history! Grischuks comments in interviews are always the most hilarious and has so many funny moments that there are so many videos on his funny moments! One of my favorite chess players for sure! Awesome result!
Levy, when you make it to Grand Master, you need to make a correctly sized sticker that says "Grand" to paste over the "International" on the back of your book, and send it to people who register for your mailing list and who bought the book :)
I was completely wrong about you. I recommended your channel to many, describing you as a strong chess player who had found the humility to realise that his true talent and calling was to be the voice of chess. I now am absolutely on the edge of my seat daily, convinced you are going to become a grandmaster in the near future. This transformation will allow you to do the sort of gonzo journalism Hikaru does, where he is reporting on events from the centre of the maelström. בהצלחה
Congrats! looks like you're *really* motivated these days and doing the right things to get better. Glad to see everything is starting to pay off. I can tell your confidence is growing. P.S. Come up to Albany NY!
I really commend your mental in recognizing ‘this is the way I’ve been in the past’ and ‘this is the way I am now’. Even though you might not be there yet, you know what you need to do in order to get there. In the immortal words of Descartes, “I think therefore I am”. You WILL get there if you can keep improving your confidence like this ❤
I think one of the biggest ways you have grown while watching this series is that you aren't really locking up as much - You've definitely improved in the quality of your game, Good Luck on the road to GM - regardless you have improved!
Levy I cried. You decided to challenge yourself again, and we know how much effort does that mean, and you managed to overcome your fears and your limits, which seemed unbreakable. This is very inspiring, you are a killer player
@@commentwarrior No! Absolutely not! That just throws away the coolness of a useful underpromotion! Also, The queen is a very cool piece. You can do many geometric sequences with it. It helps you in attacking. Without it, all games would be slow and unexciting! also u r not a comment warrior, i am
Subtitles in the firsts seconds " ladies and gentleman welcome back to the road to Grandmas series" Levi you had my curiosity ... but now you have my attention
I watched your video for years but with this series you made me realize that the only thing that is holding me back in life is my lack of confidence and since I realized it my life improved a lot. Thank you Levy.
I love that he has unlimited content now that he has a goal to GM. I love it even more that he is praising himself and fawning over his performances rather than other people. Gotham is a gangster I love this version
Love that chrome extension, there’s a lot to learn from studying and idolizing the best, but a double edged sword when you grow enough to face them as equals.
Well guys in chess beginners (0-1200) are given the free pass of i am not yet beaten/checkmated but as soon as a player crosses 2000 his free pass is expired then he has to buy the pass which gotham recently did.
Hello Mr Levy, it is really nice to see your journey. You have always be my inspiration for the last 3 years and probably in the future as well. I'm really happy to see you surpass your own fear. Because of you, I have getting better at English and chess. I used to be the weakest player in my area with 600 elo and now I'm about to hit 1400. Just want you to know that I love your content and your characteristic as well. Keep going Levy 🔥🔥
Gothman, genuine tip--> I almost didn't see this video because I initially thought this was one of your normal clickbait videos and not a road to gm vid and skipped it. So, in future I would suggest just adding a Road to gm note in the title. I enjoy your growth and confidence in the road to gm videos.
Maybe the shift happened before or after, but i noticed a change in levy after his interview with hikaru. Levy asked, "do you think i have what it takes to be gm" and hikaru said something along the lines of, "well i think you have the knowledge and skill, it's your mental game that holds you back." Im paraphrasing, but that was the idea. Anyways, idk if that was the advice that did it, but levy seems to have really worked on that. Good job!
The new Gotham is very instructive. It is reminding us that, quite often, the difference between who is good and who is excellent is how one sees himself, those who are knowing they are good are by this making them excellent.
I think the mentality shift from Levi is going to make GM status a 'when' not an 'if'. Dude is playing good chess and not being shaken just because his position wasn't what he thought it was, thank you for continuing to recap your games Levi!
