Always funny to discover a video of which I've seen live how it was recorded. There's always a slight moment of "Waaait a miniute... Haven't I've seen this before?" xD

Too bad they just dropped their free tier, making this restricted to people willing to pay $39 USD. They also fired the author of this article.

to play devil's advocate, Firebase would literally throw errors on your website if you attempted to do a query without an index, AND it would put a link in the js console that would take you to a prefilled page to add the index unfortunately, it's still firebase

@@-ok- Far less flexibility in querying things that the data model was not designed to query, easy to end up with a mess, and more importantly extreme vendor lock-in

Planetscale just announced the elimination of their free tier. No matter how you feel about it or the service, this likely means it won't be a good financial pick for any hobby projects.

Interesting concept, a mini profiler. Can they do something similar for other DBs, e.g. the bighuge enterprise Oracles and MSSQLs of the world? Also, calling Apache Kafka "ancient", love the drive-by :)

I recently worked on a light/dark switch, and this gave me an idea. Having two opposite modes will always make one side unhappy. There should be a third option/mode that is between light and dark, I guess. That mode can be used on images/videos (captures) as they can't be changed dynamically.

Having the insight work on live data is nice, but can't some of this be statically analysed from the schema alone? Obviously key exhaustion and missing indices require data-based (pun intended) metrics, but redundant indices are independent from the data, or am I missing something?

PlanetScale needs to scale their speed, their DB at paid plan with search with 1G of data is slower and much laggy than simply use postgresql in free tier. This is not acceptable for the plan they charge. (also upgrading plan doesn't fix this issue at all)

@@t3dotggHi, can you please make a video on how people do so many not so needed abstractions in the front-end/ typecript world. I have around 3 years of experience and it's a Major pain point. So many engineers add 100 files of utils and configurations and interfaces for a simple feature when it's not needed. A video on when and when not to create abstractions would be amazing.
@DavidMulderOne
@DavidMulderOne 5 месяцев назад
@@varunsharma5582 You will find that no matter what you will often feel like you didn't make enough abstractions or you made too many abstractions when you look at a project 10 years down the line. Getting the right amount is beyond hard, because it requires you to see the future. Long story short: you make the abstractions based on your current predictions of the potential futures of the product you work on, so that in none of those futures you will want to kill yourself. (And that's why it's so important for developers to be aware of any type of product planning and be aware of what customers are complaining about or asking for)
