Gotta get a chimney sweep in to clean that chimney! Those fumes going back into the house can be toxic. And you could have a buildup of flammable residue on the inside of the chimney, which could cause the chimney to catch on fire. Chimney fires are one of the leading causes of house fires. I know all of this because my fireplace was doing the same thing so I researched it Just have to get someone honest who will just clean your chimney and not try to rebuild the whole thing for $1000s. They can send a video camera up inside your chimney to check for damage. So if they say you need a new chimney lining, make them show you video evidence. And if they say the entire chimney needs to be rebuilt, get a second opinion from a builder that you trust!

You're parent's home is regal ... I loveeeee it!!! Those beautiful French glass doors & the glass door entry into the lounge is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I've seen one room & I already have house envy💯 Btw ... I'm loving the new single home-owner Saffron ... Cleaning ... Cooking ... Living alone. I'm in the same place right now & it's liberating. I'm saving up to do a reno on my home.

Oil heat is nice in many ways but it can be a pain, especially in colder months because the lines can freeze, so if you can its best to have the tank in your basement and not outside, also have it all serviced early every fall and try to have a fill up every month or every other month. For the mice, try buying those plug in ultrasonic pest resellers they sell on amazon, they may have European adapters, they work 4ealky well to keep both rodents and bugs away

I love the sofa, it is big but the room can carry it off. It's definitely a statement piece. Maybe just add a corner piece to it if you can to add more balance.
