The iPhone 13 mini is secretly one of the best iPhone's Apple ever made. So how does it work in 2024? I documented the switch from my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iPhone 13 mini and I have some thoughts. This phone has solid performance, great battery life, but suffers with a poor camera. Ultimately it's the best mini phone Apple ever made. So is it worth it? Watch to find out.

@@pridify I agree that the mini is a niche market, but I would also say low budget iPhones are also a very niche market, and Apple could kill two birds with one stone by making the iPhone SE a mini size. This way, the low budget bigger screen market can easily buy the two year-old option for the lower price point. They can also find fairly cheap not so old phones from third-party sellers. When the SE inevitably comes as a 6.1 screen, the mini users have absolutely zero option other than to stay with the iPhone 13 mini.

@@jonjurgens7412 2022/23 sale share of 13 mini in q2 /22 (3%) , q3/22(4%), q4/22(4%) q1 /23(1%)Minis are NICHE market. Idk what you consider budget other than se but for me it’s any older base model I can get for a good price today. That would be iPhone 12 or 13. iPhone 12 had more sales in 2022 than the 13 mini and iPhone 13 had sold more than both mini models put together times 3. The Se is the true budget phone and it out sells minis 2 to 1 (8%) average throughout the same quarters

The iPhone mini was the only reason I didn’t switch back to Android. Now that Apple had discontinued it it’s just a count down to when I switch back to Android.

@@adragolis9529 Yeah I compared a s23 fe and s24 in person and found the s23 fe is not for me. However the s23 is pretty solid, similar width but decently taller. Might grab one on sale when the s25 drops.

Yeah I got the 15 pro instead of getting the 13 mini because I didn’t want to deal with the minis poor battery life. And carrying a battery pack with the mini defeats the purpose of the small phone. And also the 15 pro is still a good small size with a better camera too

I absolutely love my 13 Mini. Switched from 12 Pro and have never looked back. Will continue to use it until its no longer supported. Its annoying that Apple replaced it with a Plus model that also has not sold as well as expected.

I don’t think you are crazy, I sold my 14 pro max when the 15 came out and got myself a 13 mini, best decision I’ve made. The downgrade turned out to be an upgrade. Only thing I would love to see is a better camera but other than that it’s an amazing phone !

@@8JongDe8 i would say this, IF a higher mah does not fit in it, only update it once the chip’s efficiency permits it. In Apple’s case, a 3nm N3 « efficiency » variant could be the answer to that question. But to be fair I am able to have my 13 mini hold until I go to bed with about 20-25% battery left. My battery life is at 97%

we neeed Pro Mini! I had my iPhone 13 mini for 2 years and I loved it. But my battery life was bad (battery gone down to 85%) and photos... I just hated the photos in low light (concerts) and the zoom was poor. I now switched to iPhone 15 pro just because of those 2 things, but I would love to come back to mini Pro! I have small hands and smaller phone is not only comfortable but it causing me less issues with hand pains etc! They should do this every 3 years, like iPhone 17 Pro mini, iPhone 20 Pro Mini, etc.! More people would buy it, you don't need to upgrade your phone more often than that and I think it would calculate more for them as well!

Currently using a 12 mini, and I absolutely love it! Purchasing a 13 mini within the year. I’ve never been a fan of the max series due to it taking up so much more space. Also loved using it as a remote for Apple TV and my iPad covered the need for larger screen.

Upgraded from the XS to a mint condition Product Red 13 Mini back in January. I knew I was swapping my XS this year, as i thought it was about to lose the latest iOS, but its battery health (or lack of it) hastened the upgrade. Using a bumper and MagSafe grip - not a fan of full cases - and have got myself quite a few MagSafe accessories. These include a portable charging stand that I can use on the go, and to trigger Standby Mode when I'm home. Strange to think that this 'Mini' iPhone has the same footprint as my iPhone 7. How times have changed. Thanks for the content!

Mini was a perfect phone for me as I only use my phone for a few emails; texts and calls: I just got a 15 plus due to the screen size because of my eye health but if my health wasn’t bad.. I would’ve stayed with the mini: the accessories for it were perfect because of its dimensions and capacity. If you’re looking for media use, I would go for the pro models as they have battery but they introduced the plus models and I’m impressed with all the battery life.

I did exactly the same thing (14 pro max to 13 mini) after deeply regretting moving from a 12 mini to the 14 pro max due to battery life concerns. The 13 mini is a perfect daily driver for an average user like me and I never needed the power or camera of the bigger phone although I know some people really do. I so wish for a pro mini and would pay top dollar for one but my 13 mini is just fine.

This opened my eyes. Made the upgrade from SE to 15 Pro. Getting used to no home button and the bigger phone. Love the new features and better screen quality and cams but I agree a mini that is advanced enough to be with the flagship model but slightly downgraded and affordable would be nice along with being smaller as I still am getting used to feeling the weight and size in my pocket

I’ve had my iPhone 13 mini for what feels like a long time now, I just ordered the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be here in a few days, but I have to say dude I’m charging my phone 2-3 times a day. I don’t know how you’re possibly getting through an entire day, and I had my battery replaced For $90 or so once already, i’m honestly doing it for the USB-C continuity with everything else I own, the better battery life, and just to try out a big phone for once as all the iPhones I’ve ever had since the i4📱 were super small

I got a 13 back in Nov and as of right now it feels great iOS 17 has been problem free great camera performance and battery and the perfect size the 60 hz is a lil noticeable but isn’t slow at all definitely still holds up

For me iPhone 13 Mini last for two days with two SIMs active. Now it lasts over three days with single SIM and just small usage - 15-20 minutes screen on time, few short calls.

The mini was very badly marketed, it would have sold better if it wasn’t labelled as “mini” as that gives the impression of less. The mini also suffered because it launched during Covid where people couldn’t access it in a store so easily.

I had the iPhone mini 13 for a few years. It’s the best sized phone. The A15 chip does everything one needs, and the battery is surprisingly good. I gave up on it because of the camera. I use the zoom a lot for nature stuff around the area, but never have a real camera on hand when a pelican or sugar glider is infront of me. Couldn’t go all out Max, but went with regular 15 pro. Camera is a huge improvement. I would have gone 15mini if it had the regular 15 camera. Wish it caught on better.

I still have the iPhone SE 5G with 256GB of storage and a home button. It fits in my shirt pocket for work. The smaller naff camera is fine for me. I hate when Apple stop doing iOS updates to force you to upgrade. My 2014 iMac works great too.

I’ve tried this set up before and unfortunately the camera was the deal breaker for me. Part of my work flow requires constant photo taking for our e-commerce sales and the difference from pro to non pro was just too great. The battery was also an issue and with having to carry an extra battery pack that just defeated the point of being ultra portable.

I had a 12 mini before upgrading to the 13 pro, and now a 15 pro. I would actually argue there are more pressing differences than just the camera upgrade. The biggest for me was the 120hz display. After I started using a handheld device with a 120hz display, anything below that just felt clunky. Also the battery on the 12 mini was truly horrible. The battery health dropped to 85 within the first year, which really impacted it considering that it was already bad to begin with. However, I believe they supposedly improved the battery on the 13 mini. However the mini is my favorite formfactor that Apple has released in a long time. It would be nice if they offered the mini size with the same features that the pros have now (120hz, usb C, etc)

5:18 didn’t neglect that group, thats what the regular Pro does. Theres no space for all the stuff you’re asking for on a mini phone. This is coming from a 12 mini user. You shouldn’t be expecting the implausible from small component estate.

Contrary to what most believed, minis were popular. However parts were too expensive to source. In fact Apple realised this when they released iPhone 12 mini. The 13 mini was just a spillover to exhaust all remaining stockpile.

I have this phone, battery at 86% life won’t last a day of regular use. Also, you’ll struggle on hot days, mine gets laggy when entering the car on summer days and phone gets hot, and if it’s too bright outside, nits are not that good either for screen brightness

I own a Mini iPhone 13, I won’t go back to a larger phone. I find the camera is fine, it isn’t a Pro nor has the higher specs of the 15 but the camera is the same as the standard iPhone 13. They say covid with everyone being at home the disadvantages of a large phone was forgotten. Plus the Mini isn’t small, it is as large as the original plus phone of the past. What has happened the phones of today are monster bricks. Plus it’s battery is fine for all day use, again expectations a phone should go 2 days of use is something new. I am hopeful a new mini iPhone may be possible but not soon. The iPhone SE is rumour to be larger more a iPhone 13 in size. I brought a second unboxed iPhone 13 mini ready to go if my current one is lost, dies.

I love the 13 mini. The only downside for me is just the lack of 120hz (or at least 90) and better battery life. I use the phone a lot for work phone calls (I‘m a configuring call-severs so I need to do a lot of calls lol) and thats killing my battery quiet fast. Lask week I bought replacement at apple for the battery and its fine for now. I will keep it until it breaks probably. Until the 13 mini I upgraded my phone nearly every year lol.

I have a 15 pro max and I just bought a brand new iPhone 12 to have a smaller phone. I wanted the 12 mini or 13 mini I just couldn’t find a new one

I use the 12 mini. As an endurance athlete it’s a great to be able to fit it in running shorts. Perfect adventure phone. But recently i got a insta 360 and the 64gb on the mini is limiting so I’ll probably move to a iphone 16 pro and use a running belt to carry it

I’ve done the exact same thing. 13 Mini is a brilliant device and so is the 15 pro max, just less portable. The weight of the newer device is intrusive to my lifestyle, 13 Mini not so much.

i downgraded from an iphone 14 pro max to a regular iphone 12, and i too noticed that i would use it less compared to my 14pm. i guess the shorter battery and screen does help with the detox

Bro, people still daily an iPhone 6. The A15 chip will be relevant for years to come. Unless you’re a big mobile gamer you’ll be fine for years and years to come.

From what you are saying I am glad that I have chosen iPhone SE 2022 instead of 13 mini. My battery lasts 2 days on one charge of regular use and 1 day of active usage. If 13 mini has hardships lasting 1 day ... and I still have a phone (below 6 inch device), not a tablet 😉 In general interesting movie and set of pros and cons 😊

Sorry to say, but I tried using 12 Mini for 2 years, and the only problem i encountered is the battery. whenever i travel abroad, it gives me headache, trust me in this generation of heavy apps, mini phones are sadly no use. i loved mini and still do, but living in this generation with mini phone is not practical

I replaced the battery in my 13 mini with a 3rd party high capacity (3550 mah) and it’s pretty much unstoppable. The only downside is that the iOS won’t recognize battery health or cycle count, but the mag safe battery pack still works fine (although I no longer need it) and I find it a small price to pay for the longer duration time and not having to haul a boat anchor around with me all day.

@@VittorTech Yep. It’s a BeeFix 3550. About 40 bucks. If I tell you specifically where I got it the YT police will remove it, but it begins with an “A” contains a “Z” and ends with an “N”. It comes with a changing kit but I don’t trust myself to do that so I had my tech guy do it for me (for a price of course😂).

I like my Android phones....I went from Pixel 4 to Pixel 6...bigger was good...but now I want to return to a smaller screen and now that battery performance is better in smaller package...would still like it smaller than a Pixel 8 though.

My 13 mini gets hot as hell (fr) when playing a RU-vid video thru the app, and its very annoying and battery consuming, nonetheless I've had it since 2022 and it def needs a new battery (currently at 78% capacity) hope a new one fixes that very specific issue
