Products that are water soluble make a difference. That’s why certain "high end" brands are recommended by stylists because they are water soluble. They support hydration…sustained hydration which is why your sets last longer. You see your curls with the shampoo because water was able to absorb faster…didn’t have wait for the non water soluble ingredients to be cleaned off. I noticed my hydration progression, my curls didn’t appear until the conditioning phase. Then I started seeing the curls with shampoo, and now I’m starting see as soon as I rinse my hair before I add shampoo. The more hydrated the hair, the less product you need across the board. My stylist even suggested if I wanted to use UFD curly magic without a topper gel, to put a plastic cap on for 30 minutes to really let the humectants do their work. That’s why curly magic is highly recommended as a base gel to get from dehydrated to hydrated. I actually do twist outs primarily but curly magic was my leave in to start because I knew it was good at trapping the water. It was unconventional but I’m convinced I accelerated to a hydrated state faster than I would have otherwise.
I agree with you 100 percent! I’m relatively new to using botanical products and I’m so please with my wash and goes! I’m amateur to the process and am able to maintain my hair from 5-7 days! I no longer don’t need to use and purchase a ton of products. Also I save on time! The thought of using perm rods or twist or braid outs make me cringe! I know that the time I finish those sets, my WNG hair would have dried and I’ll be out the door! 😂 Thanks for sharing your hair journey
I know exactly what you mean. It’s like my hair just looks better all the time now. I hardly ever wear a puff now unless I just want to or I have earrings I want to show off. I don’t need the emergency puff anymore. And my hair gets wet so much faster now. Now I can see the curls with just water before I even shampoo.
I’ve been using botanical gels for almost 2 years now and I gotta agree with you 100%. My hair definitely feels better and the curls be popping a bit extra. You’re spot on with the lathering of the shampoo. I now realize how much shampoo I wasted in the past 😅
First thing first. I really like your hairstyle. I'm probably in the minority but I have never used Eco or Wetline. It was interesting to hear you compare and contrast as it confirms why I stayed away from these products. I do use non botanical gels from time to time, usually as toppers (like the Ouidad gel for instance) and haven't had a bad experience yet. Just a different look sometimes. The more I learn, the more I believe technique is equally as important as the product. Good product of course.
I’ve donated or thrown out my cheap gels and I only use Innersense now in the summer, during spring I can get by with a curlsmith paired with The Doux mousse def, I also clarify once a month
Love this hairstyle. I know you do mostly wash n go but it would be nice to see you do tutorials on protective hairstyles like this one. I can never get enough protective hairstyle ideas.
This is the same style from my jumbo twists updo video I uploaded earlier this year. I just wrapped the excess hair in a makeshift bun due to the length of the left out hair.
