What lovely commenters on this one. So you talk about "the grid" in Sacramento. If you were in LA or SD, how would you approach these cities? I'm in Irvine, and there are plenty of rides here. It's just they don't pay enough. So the cherry-pickers in LA go all over Southern CA. The channels ridexserve and uberdriverchat both do this. Because they know the alternative isn't very good.

@ridexserve has his niche which is moving between all the airports and Sniper focuses on the Santa Monica area I believe. Honestly, I would look for areas that have a lot of bars, restaurants, hotels and clubs. Then I would focus on travel patterns. For example, during the week, people are moving from the big hotels out to the restaurants and bars in midtown and east Sac. Later in the evening they are going the opposite direction. I would focus on those areas. I don't want to take rides that take me way out of the zone. I get $8-10 rides and fill in the gaps with the churn and burn shorties. I would imagine in the SoCal area there are plenty of opportunities to exploit. The guy that is going to take the $23 ride that takes 30+ mins is no longer your competition. Personally, I would let them have those rides because they are leaving the area and probably won't return. In the end, all markets are different and what works here may not work there but if you tweek it, it just might.

That's a very interesting question. Mainly because it implies that there is some sort of unionization movement among drivers, which I'm not aware of. Is this a cause you are leading? Is anyone taking the lead to unionize the drivers? Would you join? Would you pay a portion of your earnings to a union to be represented at the bargaining table? To answer your question, I'm doing neither. I wasn't planning to drive on that day because of other family commitments. Thanks for watching.
