Jesse Enkamp a.k.a. "The Karate Nerd" teaches Icy Mike from Hard2Hurt a traditional Okinawan Karate kata called Gekisai (Ichi).
Whether you practice Muay Thai or Kyokushin Karate, all martial arts are just variations on the same combative themes. By learning from each other, we can gain a new perspective on our own style.
I hope this video inspires modern MMA fighters and athletes to connect with traditional martial arts, just like Icy Mike ‪@hard2hurt‬

My respect for Jesse has increased so much after this. Not only did he find humor in Icy Mike's original video from last year, but he also took time to give him an old school Karate lesson this year. And I do believe Mike learned some things that he can use in his own training and possibly with his instruction to his students. The day you stop learning is the day you stop breathing.

The most important part of karate: Respect for self, others and expressing one’s strength through the integrity, dignity and sincerity of one’s own actions. Unjustified anger is a weakness. I really like this video because I have been in the gentleman with the beard 🧔 situation. Not style wise but fraud wise none the less. I was put off with traditional Asian martial arts because no one gave the meaning behind the katas. Also coming up in a rough neighborhood, you need results yesterday. Not months or years. I like that Sensei Enkamp confronted his critic with understanding and a willingness to inform. Shows a lot of maturity and wisdom. I would have blown my stack. Nice nice video.

A piece of advice my father gave my younger brother recently(hes one of the sensei in our dojo) for hip movements is to think of it like a bow: the first movement is to gather power in the clambering of the punch, like the drawing of an arrow, and the second is to release the punch and follow through with the power, like how a bowstring pushes foward on the arrow as it releases. Maybe this would be helpful to a beginner like mike?

Love how you decided to give a free class and I love seeing him willing to learn and see what you are all about without judgment, and hell, he saw it man ! The look he has when you are performing and hearing the wind blow from your power is just the face of Amazement and respect. Incredible man. Thank you for helping me return to my senses and train again.

This is a wonderfully feel good interaction, and also a great example of what martial arts is all about.

That was exemplary of Jesse and genuinely respectful of Mike to do this and be accepting. You both put your egos aside and showed us what it's like to be good people at heart. This is what we should be like today in our day of toxic intentions. I am not into martial arts, but you've both earned my respect just for the values you've shown. Isn't that what martial arts is also about? I wish you both well.

Congratulations to you both - what an amazing union. I primarily watch the two of you on YT and have always been a big fan of you both. IcyMike made me laugh with his impressions (he even shaved his beard!) and I was very impressed with his comments on being devil's advocate, he's open and honest. This has only made me respect you both so much more.

Very good. Mike, Ramsey and Seth are all the best guys I watch on youtube already - and you! Karate is for everyone even the haters.

Fantastic video Jesse! Mike-san is a very quick learner... Great to understand the application of the moves within the kata, rather than just seeing it as a “dance”. 👊

Jesse, this might be my favorite video of yours so far. Karate is as much about the spirit as the body or mind, and you (and Mike) demonstrated that here. Well-done, sir.

This guy reminds me of my 1st teacher. I was 7, the karate kid just came out, and this European man who studied tar kwon do in Korea moved to NY, and began teaching kids on a condo tennis court for $1 a class. Got my green belt. Same energy and personality as this guy.

I have seen very few videos of Jesse enkamp but I can already tell he is so disciplined and respectful. I was expecting jesse to react with anger towards this guy making fun of him, but instead teaches him some of his moves.. what a great guy

Both of them show the true results of martial arts training . Humility and Courage and Respect . One approached the other without having to threaten a fight. The other decided to learn and embrace a lesson even after poking fun. I love this . 🙇🏼‍♂️ both of you are awesome .

This video is so cool. Martial arts is about building relationship as well as the exercise itself.

Icy Mike's eyes looking away, and that humble smile he does when he knows he's being schooled. We love you Mike. So much respect here. Never seen your stuff before, but this got me interested, Jesse! I love your attitude, from the jump. An uneducated person could easily think you're a kindergarten teacher, but you're all discipline. Great, great video.
