I Tested 1-Star Gym Reviews 

1-star reviews are usually the most worth reading. They're either super informative or absolutely hilarious.

bro for the first thing about the service desk they literally recognize you....of course they are not going to be rude.

That last gym, the equipment is sick AF! Being able to drop set weights without having to change the pin/plates is awesome. I wish my gym had those.

Reviews can change ownerships behavior. These one star reviews were probably legit, but the owner changed practices because of the reviews

I never trust the 1 star reviews... the 3 star reviews are usually the best for actually getting to root of the problem.

The front desk recognised you, that's why they were so friendly.

Another thing that would help is the dates when the reviews were left because i get a funny feeling the thermostat gym had been a problem for years before you went and reviewed it.

They acted like they knew you at the front desk. Maybe they already know who you are since you are a well-known youtuber so they treated you well? Just a hunch.

Of course a 2.5 million follower fitness influencer with a camera crew would be greeted with a warm welcome.

Man, I would love for you to continue doing these as a full-time series. I loved it!! Striaton 6 looks pretty cool with some of that equipment. Good mix.

For that last gym I can tell you the sweat and humidity is definitely a thing when the guy is packed, i've been to a similar underground gym in my city and it gets very much frustrating

To be fair, the first gym didn't seem to have any plate racks holding extra plates, and each machine only seemed to have 2 to 4 45s per machine, so I can totally understand the complaint about it not having enough plates--especially if it's busy.

using air pressure for a resistance machine rather than weights blew my mind. Badass

I work on gym equipment to a large chain. Watching your reviews gives me an idea of what I can do to better peoples experience

I go to a privately owned gym and the equipment definitely has alot of love lol. Theres no real heat or ventilation but they do have an industrial fan as well as few others scattered around and if desired you can open the garage door for natural light and fresh air. I enjoy the freedom of being (mostly) alone to do my thing and the condition doesn't bother me so long as its still usable.

I do wonder how much it helps Will that he can go in during slow times. I can totally imagine people in the first area of the first gym having too few plates to share, or kids hanging around that 3rd gym after school.

Sorry but just because the front desk recognizes that you’re in influencer and can see that you have a camera pointed at you doesn’t mean they might not have been rude or less kind to an average gym member. None of this discredits the 1 star reviews

Great vid man, wanted to shout out to Kieser, I've been using them and installing them in my gym's for 20 years and honestly wish more gyms would use them; particularly their functional trainers and squat racks. Stri 6 has some older models but the newer ones track force, velocity and much more; they're expensive though and maintaining old air compressors can be a pain, lots of down time...

The thing about 1 star reviews is in most cases they are based on truth, even if they are embellished in the heat of the moment. A majority of ppl will not go through the trouble of putting a review unless something sparked that fire.

I guarantee you that first gym learned you were coming somehow. You don't get that many complaints about the temp and have them all be wrong.

I can tell you as a gym employee/trainer for a few years, gym staff is probably the most fluctuating quality at a gym. You get rude/uncaring/unattentive teenagers or blowhards. Or sometimes you get energized, professional, and attentive people. Chances are if you come between 10am-5pm you're gonna get the best service just because more management/trainers are around.

That second one looks like every small town gym that charges $60 a month.

Second one reminds me of our training facility I mean, it was cleaned from time to time, but it was essentially a pole barn where we stored our rowing boats. Plenty of space, but the machiens were old and the floor was concrete with gym pads over it. Always had a bit of dust on the fringes. I loved it though. It was just team members, and squatting without a shirt on is absolutely primal. Nowhere else in the world can you workout with the boys shirtless. Came home and working out at a local gym now. I miss being able to have control of the gym speakers and no shirt on. I sweat a ton so having the shirt cling to you the whole time sucks. Especially when you've tasted the feeling of just sweating into the ether. No sleeve so you just let your sweat roll over your eyes. It's an amazing feeling. Even when I used the college gym (our campus is HUGE and our training facility was on the other side, and if class was letting out, getting across the river to it would take 40 minutes, where a 15 minute walk or 5 minute run would get me to the gym near me) it was a little basement gym in a 1930s building. Definitely looked like that. Crowded with college kids and their girlfriends. I loved it. The dank feeling. It wasn't terribly dirty, but definitely feels like a basement, and that hyped me up. If i needed a more traditional gym expereince, at the base of my apartment (so even closer) was a nice gym that was relatively uncrowded.

Yeah, I think it's good to keep in mind, a lot of places, their business is going to go through rough times, and hopefully get better (for the owner and community's sake). Best practice in reviews is to be concise, be honest, share the good, share the issues. Finally hope that, if it's bad that your review is going to become outdated in the near future. If it's good, hope it doesn't. (the dating of reviews is what makes me uncomfortable reviewing at all some times, but the good of information sharing supersedes that for me. Loved the video! Good stuff.

The first gym might have actually had some of those problems until the owner or manager saw those reviews.

There used to be this old church in Ballarat Australia, full of old steel weights and home made cable machines. The guys there were in their 50s to 80s, lifting heavy and the banta was amazing. Miss that to what it is these days

There's an Oceanfront gym in Galveston Texas that is the ratiest place I've ever been to In my life. I've been there three or four separate times, one time not only did I see toilet paper with shit on it laying on the floor but there was actually a turd laying a few feet further from it, everything was so rusty it ruined my clothes, it smelled like shit, the tanning beds and the equipment look like they hadn't been cleaned in decades. Definitely a place to go if you want to try to collect your life insurance policy

Everyone probably has a relatively valid review. Everyone has a bad day, that includes the gyms themselves. Even my gym has things I can complain about but it changes day to day depending on how staff and visitors treat it.

The last one looked really cool, mainly because there was just one person working out there and you had all the space for yourself but also the machines looked really interesting and I've never seen anything like it before.

I lowkey love that Striation 6 gym. That's where you go, if you don't want a glam-gym. That's just a good, functional gym that doubles as a nuclear bomb shelter.

The gym I went to from 15-21 was like straight from the 80s. Dust and dirt everywhere, needle marks in the bathroom stalls, a literal ant hill on the inside of a window, torn padding and vinyl on everything, the little balls on a cable machine handle had broken off and were replaced with golf balls that had holes drilled through them, a dog would just run around everywhere, and the ceiling had missing panels everywhere. That being said the atmosphere was awesome and the regulars there were big and strong as hell and always willing to help you out.

This is genius. Reviews on reviews. Debunking reviews is a neat concept that could give a small business a chance. Some see bad reviews & make a change, I think it's important people recognize that.

I was beyond morbidly obese if there is a category above it or below it I don't know. I spent more years than I care to admit having just given up on everything. I can't remember how I came across you but am so glad I did you helped me more than you can imagine with your delivery and light hearted approach yet serious and instructive. It has been around 8 months now since started training tbh only had 4 good months, I was hardly able to walk and doc told me all bad things. I am now about 90kg (198lb) down I am still about as strong as a toddler but I can do things I thought were impossible to my old self now. Been binge watching your videos for the last week. Usually the ones from a few years ago. You’ve been keeping me motivated. It’s currently 1245 am here in Australia, didn’t feel like going to gym but am going when this vid finishes. Yeah, I know it’s late/ early but I’m a shift worker with a really stuffed up sleep schedule and if I don’t go now I won’t be able to get my 15000 steps in for today ( Good Friday).

The noise you heard at the preacher machine (at hone fitness) is the weight plates sticking together because they are oiled and then gravity overcoming the sticky force and the plate falls down creating the metal to metal noise. I hear this a lot at my gym which is full of matrix machines (like that preacher there).

I've been in customer service roles my whole life, including the community and events manager of a 5-star gym (I'm talking 1000's a year, cryotherapy, 1on1 nutritionists, the janitor was told to memorize new member names by photo before their first day. My civic looked so out of place in that parking lot lmao). Some people just live to complain tbh, especially the higher up you go in terms of net-value clients. The 2/3 star reviews are where its at, those people are honest
