I am bad at soldering so I decided to solder the smallest components I could find.

It's painful to watch people soldering without using flux ;) Great video by the way.

It's painful to clear all of that without making the PCB sticky. Soldering paste + stencil is all you need

@@nikodembartnik that is what cleaning solutions and a stiff natural bristle brush are for. 99.9% iso. alcohol and some axarel and acetone work well, and you can blow it off with compressed air, into an empty trash bin.

@@nikodembartnik I don’t mean to be condescending. I understand that you are working on a University Student budget, and not a big corporate budget. You do very well on your projects, even for corporate budgets (they always like to spend the least amount of money). Your at home SMT project is really awesome.

First of all nice job dude, I think your results were really great. Just one question... Why didn't you use any flux :D I feel like, with some flux you could improve 0402s and make 0201s much better. Still kudos to you m8, nice job and a nice video.

A toaster oven based DIY reflow oven would make a great project! It's pretty straightforward to build and takes SMT assembly to the next level.

What's the best way to make a sheet metal stencil when you don't have access to a cnc machine, laser cutter or a drill? Is there a special smd hole punch kit I could use?

After looking recently I noticed there wasn't many recent reflow oven from toaster oven mods on youtube. I really think one from you would be amazing, the detail you put into your projects would make replicating it a dream!

Nik, does your hotair station have a really low air output volume ? Mine just blows all the parts around at it's lowest setting, Maybe i need a lower fan blower speed. Good video BTW thanks !

My 60-something hands aren't as steady as your 20-something hands, so I find that even hand- applying paste with a syringe and using a hot-air rework station results in better results than hand soldering SMDs with a iron.

If you add a bit of flux, it is so much easier to get good solder joints.

Flux pen before and solder wick after! Tip rejuvenater powder is essential too! Use the solder to move the component around!

That's why you convert a toaster oven to a reflow oven and do the entire board all at once. Try doing 100 of those and you will go crazy. Not 100 components but 100 boards.

O:02 "by mistake I bought those super super tiny capacitors" then I thought it would be a cool idea to come up with a sponsored video 5:14 "unfortunately I wasn't able to buy the 01005 capacitors". So was this an accidental buy or did you do it as a nice pretext for a sponsored video idea?
@nikodembartnik
@nikodembartnik 3 года назад
While buying parts for guitar tuner project i bought 0201 capacitors (wanted to buy 0603 but selected 0603 in metric which is 0201). Once I saw how small it is i decided to design a PCB to practice soldering. While designing the PCB I noticed that there is even smaller 01005 so I included those on my PCB but wasn't able to buy those. Because this video is based on a PCB I thought JLCPCB will be a perfect sponsor. That way I can make some money and build better projects or buy tools. Is a sponsored video seriously such a big problem?
@ErosNicolau
@ErosNicolau 3 года назад
@@nikodembartnik absolutely not! I'm just picking up apparently contradictory stuff sometimes and this makes me wonder about which part is the true one. Not only are sponsored videos not a problem, I have a healthy respect for people able to get sponsorships.
