Great idea, thanks! However it's good to mention that there is no "one size fits all" water treatment solution. The best first step to take is to test your water using a certified lab so you can get a good understanding of the water situation and chemistry. Then, using the test results data, you can identify proper treatment methods and products to fit your specific needs.
A testing organization (Consumer Lab) found that many water filters actually add microplastic to the water during filtration. Would be really interesting to include a test for added plastics.
This is on our list! I'd really love to start including microplastics testing by default in all our projects. Current state, microplastics testing is cost-prohibitive for us unfortunately, but hopefully that changes as testing methods improve over time
Same system I've been using for about 18 months only i don't use the fluoride filters, huge improvement on the city water in my hometown in East Yorkshire, England. No more stomach issues from water that smells like chlorine bleach!
My city tap water contains more organic than inorganic contaminants (high THMs and HAAs, specifically), with chromium and fluoride being the main inorganics. I've been using a Pur for years, but I want to get something more robust after noticing a difference in my digestion and energy after visiting a friend with a Berkey for several days. Could be placebo, but I didn't expect any difference in how I felt prior to noticing a difference. Given Berkey's seeming commitment to always acting as shifty as possible (and the whole aluminum thing), I think I'll give the King Tank a go. Thanks for doing the thorough review!
If you could lab test the big 3 i have found. Waterdrop Chubby pitcher, Epicwater pure pitcher and the Clearlyfiltered pitcher they would be great. Showing all lab results.
I appreciate your reviews. You do a great job. Please describe the filters you used in this test. Did you have the two black filters in the top and two fluoride filters below? I have this product and only have the two black filters. It is very useful to have the glass level indicator. Haven’t seen this feature on any other product.
@@StatesideInsights you're right, as every situation is different one would expect different results based on how the product is used, contaminants present, concentrations of those contaminants, and testing procedure. This product is intended for use with treated city water only. It is not capable of addressing contaminants commonly found in untreated surface water (like microorganisms)
Ive had the original berkey filters in for quite (5yrs) awhile and don't seem more clogged but hard to tell as I dont monitor how quick they fill up the tank.. Would be interesting to see how much they are still working but they do make the water taste better than the tap.
Hello Thanks for the videos. Really helpful. Can you advise on the below questions. 1. Based on the leanings so far which under the sink RO system you recommend ? Water drop or Aqua Tru or RKIN 2. Is there any Under the sink RO system which has hot/cold outlets
Hi thanks for your comment and questions! 1. RKIN does not have an under sink RO, and we have not yet installed or tested the AquaTru under sink version (although I think the filters are the same as the countertop unit). So these can't accurately be compared apples o apples to the Waterdrop G series under sink RO. 2. The Waterdrop K6 (waterdropus.pxf.io/5gBJj9) under sink RO provides on demand hot water
Just bought the one tested about a month ago and it is well worth it. Was on sale on Amazon🏔️💧 water wasn’t bad from fridge filter just wanted to get fluoride out. Live 10 miles from reservoir where water comes from in Colorado.
I've been watching your videos and writing out a chart comparing and contrasting. It seems out of all the gravity filters King Tank is best hands down. 98/99 score as opposed to ProOne 79/99.
We'll be putting together a round-up video that compares and contrasts them all. Remember that, like we mentioned in the video, our test was limited and only had a certain range of contaminants. In our testing, the Waterdrop King Tank performed the best with treated city water. However it should not be used with untreated surface water, whereas the ProOne can be (due to its ceramic media).
Could you test (again if you have years ago) the Crystal Quest Countertop RO System? I'd like to know how well it does without purchasing any additional cartridges.
Thanks for the request! Please don't wait on our test results to make your decision, I cannot promise a timeframe as we have numerous other systems in the queue
This is a great question we'd love to test all filters for. Current state, microplastics testing is cost prohibitive for us, unfortunately. Hopefully that will change in the future so we can start including microplastics as an analyte in all our testing projects
Thanks for the great videos and detailed information. Could you please consider reviewing the Waterdrop 5+1 Stage Stainless Steel Direct Connect Under Sink Water Filter AS13 in the future? I cannot find a review anywhere with detailed test results.
Can you review The Water Machine Please!?!? It’s pretty much the same thing as all the other filters. Just the container itself is glass instead of stainless steel. Thank you
I watched a video where the "filtered" water ran straight down to the lower chamber. If the flow rate was that high, what kind of filtering capacity the filters have? Makes me wonder.
It does have a fast filtration rate, but as you can see in our test at least it performed really well. The manufacturer claims a 3,000 gallon capacity per filter - a bit far fetched if you ask me. We haven't tested it yet.
@@waterfilterguru Thank you. I want to believe but it's just difficult for my old fashioned brain to imagine how it could filter without the traditional concept of drip filtration. I totally agree with the 3,000 gallon capacity part. I have a Berkey, they also claim 3,000 gallon each but I call it BS.
These black filters seem to be the most affordable and just as effective as the berkey filters. I filter spring water so I have no need for the fluriode and chlorine filters.
Just FYI, the manual indicates the system should not be used to filter water that's not been properly disinfected first. It cannot address microbiological contaminants on its own.
Pretty sure they had to stop saying they are effective against microbes because of the whole berkey incident. I trust that activated carbon is effective against microbes. I drink the spring water straight out of the pipe. The only reason I filter is for heavy metals and other toxins that I worry could be in it. Maybe I need to test the water !
@@Eden.Oasis.333 If the source of your spring water is good I wouldn't worry about it. We live in the city but every time we go to the mountains, half way there is a waterfall streams down from the top, we always fill a large container and bring it home. Drink it straight, no boiling or filtering. Never got sick from it.
While neither of these contaminants were analyzed in our initial test, we can make a couple assumptions: 1) Activated carbon is currently one of the best methods to address PFAs in residential applications, and AC is one component of the media in these filters. We can extrapolate that they will reduce some % of PFAs. 2) Carbon block media can filter suspended particles down to 5 - 0.5 microns in size. I don't know the exact nominal micron rating for the king tank filters, I'd have to ask the manufacturer. Microplastics can range from 1 -5,000 microns in size. So the carbon block media should be capable of reducing a large % of microplastics present. However if there are nanoplastics smaller than the nominal micron rating of the filters, some might get through
Thank you! I'm in Colorado, north of Denver, family of 5. I'm a little overwhelmed researching, but you are helping. We'd like to start with a gravity system, but I'm still not sure which brand to go with. My priority is to get fluoride, and water scrubbing chemicals, and heavy metals out. Yesterday I liked Water Drop King, today I was thinking Pure One Big+. I like the 3 gallon capacity! But now I'm not sure which one to get. Why is this so hard?
Hi. Great video! The link down here leads to the amazon option ($108) that doesn't have the white fluoride filters. Could you please clarify if all of them filter fluoride or only the one with the white things (the $168.99 option). Thanks
The link gives you 3 options to check price accross various vendors: geni.us/JqBzS If you want to target fluoride, you'll need the white filters in addition to the black filters
Any that use ceramic filter media, like the ProOne tinyurl.com/mr3zap7c But for even more protection, you could disinfect the water with a 8 drops of 6% unscented bleach per gallon of water and let it sit for 30 minutes. This will disinfect the water, then you could filter with any of the gravity fed systems to remove the disinfection chemical
Hi and thanks for all your videos, which I find excellent. In this test, did you use 2 filters only (2 activated carbon) or 4 filters (2 black activated carbon + 2 white). Thank you
@@StatesideInsights The carbon block filters in this unit should be able to address many microplastics in the water. That said, it all depends on the size of the plastic particles. Carbon block can trap particles down to 0.5 microns in size, but some nano plastics can be smaller than that. I'd recommend a reverse osmosis system for the best protection against nano plastics
Hey Brian, What is your opinion that the black Waterdrop filters last up to 6000 gallons and the Fluoride filter lasts up to 1000 gallons? I bought the Waterdrop filters and they are much cheaper in quality and very light then the original Berkey Black and fluoride filters. Any advice on replacement filters for a Berkey? Thank you🙏
It all depends on the types and concentrations of contaminants present in the influent water. We've not yet tested to verify these capacity claims, but just know that every situation can be different. What may last 1,000 gallons in one situation may only last 200 in another.
@@waterfilterguruHey Brian, Thank you! Did you notice how cheaply made the Waterdrop filters are compared to the Berkey? I have both Waterdrop and Berkey filters. Berkeys are much heavier with a lot media inside the Fluoride filters. How can the both be rated the same at 6000 gallons for the Black ones and 1000 gallons for the fluoride? My common sense says something is not right. Thank you!🙏
@@loveguitars I think claims by both companies of 3,000 gallon capacity per filter cartridge are exaggerated. It all depends on the water being filtered, and 3,000 gallons is a ton of water to filter. I think there is a reason Berkey never pursued certification for contaminant reduction to their capacity claims...
@@waterfilterguru Hey Brian, 🙏. I agree 100%. My concern is quality of the Waterdrop filters I bought off Amazon. They are low quality in weight, and media inside compared to my Berkeys. I installed the Waterdrop black and fluoride filters in my Berkey Royal and the water just pours out. It seems like these filters are not filtering anything. Any thoughts? Thank you!🙏
@@loveguitars Yes they filter fast, I was surprised too. However our lab testing shows solid performance. Re-watch the video starting at 0:57 to see for yourself 😉
Hey I would love to see you test the water Hydrogen generator for metals, fluoride, and if the filter and purify ? Hoping they are good option, we are in Australia and the water is serious scary! I looked into the grayl for city water as sometime we cant get tank water but id love to know what the best portable systems are to cover filtration, purification, remove fluoride, heavy chems, plastics, metals and the rest please!
Hey thanks for your request! I appreciate it. Have you considered a countertop reverse osmosis system? RO provides the most thorough contaminant reduction, and modern countertop units are portable
Thank you @@waterfilterguru. I have done some water tests on 17 different samples and found graphene that would stick to a magnet, will they potentially work on that to? Its quite concerning here in QLD AU
Have you explore the hydrgen genrators a @@waterfilterguru ? I am very keen to have negative ions in my water and I wonder how they compare with the best water filters/purifiers on the market?
My only problem with this kind of filter is that you have no way to know when to change it. Considering the usage of a family of 6 and a single person waries wildly it´s kind of useless to follow their 6months (or whatever) guidelines to change the filter.
Both type and concentrations of contaminants present as well as usage all affect how quickly a filter will reach capacity and need to be replaced. A good indicator that its about time to replace is when you notice the flow rate start to decrease compared to normal. But still, this is one of the drawbacks of all gravity systems like this. Good call out
@@waterfilterguru Yeah, in the end I went for the Waterdrop Electric Water filter jug which has a built in system to tell you when to change the filter. But again, considering the price level, it's probably based on time, rather than flow while being cheaper than the King.
100 gal is a ton of water. How poisoned am I getting drinking 100 gal before I know the filters are good? This is crazy. Ok so I also noticed the fluoride filters on these don't add in aluminum. Curious if these work with berkey? Best of both worlds? 100 gal though? That's rough. bad enough learning I've been drinking bad water from berkey for 5 years.
Hello, I would like to order waterdrop filter, but it doesnt deliver to thailand. LCF and Joypur deliver to thailand. Which one do you recommend for the tab water in Phuket in Thailand? thanks
Does the water before the filters cause any harm if they are drank? What is the use of removing contaminates that dont harm the average drinker? But filters that trapped the dirt and waste normally grow bacteria and cause toxic minerals after a few weeks or months. If you check most filters in the real world you will find the water is infected with worms bacteria virus and a host of water borne disease breeding at the filters. Please do a test of the filter that most users kept in use without cleaning for months.
so with the calcium magnesium strontium and potassium chart do we not want this added to our water? like which filter is best, the water drop king tank bc its the lowest or berkey? I know magnesium is good for us. thanks
It depends - what contaminants are in the well water that need to be addressed? Is there any other water treatment equipment currently installed? This system is NOT suitable for filtering untreated water that's microbiologically unsafe.
You had this scored one of the highest in one of your videos compared to other countertops (even better than proone), but these results don’t align to the almost 10/10 you gave it in the other video
This video was published before our current data driven scoring system, which is why you may see some differences among older and newer content. Learn more here waterfilterguru.com/how-we-test-water-filters/
@@waterfilterguru I’m debating between the Waterdrop 800 and one of the countertop ROs from Aquatru. But there’s no comparison on filtering the same (bad water).
@water filter guru can you test the aquaspace water systems AQUARIUS TRIPLE PLUS™ with Fluoride-Heavy Metal & Sediment Reduction AQ-130F. It has a 1000 gallons filter life claim.
While it's not been tested or certified to, it's filters have activated carbon media which is one of the most studied methods for PFAs reduction in water.
In most instances, there won't be fluoride in untreated surface water. Fluoride is added at the treatment plant to prevent tooth decay, or occurs naturally in ground water (well water). But if you're filtering water from a stream which is likely to have pathogenic contaminants like bacteria or viruses, it most likely won't have fluoride.
@@pocahontas330 Honestly I've never heard of it until now. Keep in mind there is no 'one size fits all' solution to water treatment. So what is best for one situation might not be best for another.
