The reason why the Wish vest wasn't stab-proof is because I'm pretty sure that it was just an armor plate *carrier* meaning that it was just empty vest you put on and you have to purchase the actual protection plates elsewhere.
@999CLIPSI’d rather my heart stop beating and actually fucking die then ever in my lifetime or my lifetime after this lifetime even for one second consider subscribing to your channel
Ive been watching him since black ops days and i can honestly say he is one youtuber that didn't change when he got popular he stayed the same and is still getting a lot of success
@@Benw8888Also note that since it is fairly thin fabric, you can still get cut from a forceful enough slice, it's just an extra layer of protection. I've certainly cut my hands through nitrile gloves without actually cutting the gloves. Seems wild the first time it happens, but makes sense once you think about it.
It's more so they likely only sell in contract security/protection type formats. And don't do single item sales. Some places only do bulk/contract sales
@@fuoco1365but what better promo you could get than to send 1 vest to them and let the whole world and maybe some new costumers see how good your vests are and why everyone should buy at your place? They fumbled hard
You should try this with olympic fencing protective gear. It's theoretically rated to withstand a 800N stab attack(which is estimated as peak stab force for humans), but there are 0 videos of people going to town with it. I bet it could protect the bag even from Matt.
Well if its got a 800n rating it wont stop anything A mear 81kg by sheer force And the point of contact of a knife is tiny compared to a fencing proder
Do you not realize that they don't fight with real swords in olympic fencing? The swords are so floppy that even with a broken tip it wouldn't be lethal. That is a terrible Idea and they would totally just die.
For those wondering, the 600$ vest that is actually stab resistant and broke Charlie's knife is from Safe Life Defence. There are a few videos from "free field training" where he also tests these vests and the bulletproof versions too, they are legit.
I don't really see the point of stab proof vests, if they try and fail to stab your chest, won't they just aim for your head or neck next? Or the opening near your arm pits?
@@goatslayer3160t’s to protect your organs, I’d rather be stabbed in the armpit than in my intestines. And it’s also a lot easier to defend your neck then it is to defend your entire front torso Edit: I no longer wish to get stabbed in my armpits
@goatslayer3160 I don't see the point of bullet proof vests if they can just shoot you in the head or legs. Obviously because there are different scenarios that require different things
@@goatslayer3160 It's one less big area for them to attack and if someone stabs you in the torso (which is probably the area most attackers would go for first) while you have the vest concealed it would catch them off guard and give you enough time to either retaliate or run away.
@@futuredozer1735it’s a lot harder to shoot somebody in the head than in the chest, also getting shot in the legs wouldn’t be as bad because there are no organs there.
It should be noted that the level 5 shirt was not even attempting to be stab resistant and it didn't advertise itself as such either. It's just designed to prevent cuts for people who work in an environment where sharp blades move around their torsos. People in that environment are not worried about being stabbed, and the shirt isn't designed to address that issue.
I mean, it's not fair for him, Matt is legit almost a foot taller then him. And with great size comes great strength. I should know as a 6'9 man, I've hurt people I didnt mean to not knowing my Size=power. :()
When I was about 20, I was really into Rurouni Kenshin and wanted to practice Batoujutsu. There was a tree outside and I had a straight "katana" that is definitely what you find in display sword places at the mall. I practiced a bunch with that sword on drawing from the sheath and striking the tree. Well, it turns out the...tang? (the metal part thingy that connects the sword to the hilt) was just a piece of rebar like metal. Just a big round bar of metal. Turns out that thing will snap if you use it to pretend to be an anime character enough! So I slapped the tree with this metal display sword, the hilt sort of cracked and the tang thingy broke in half and the sharp part of the sword cartwheeled PAST MY FACE and over my shoulder, just happening to turn in a way that didn't hit my shoulder at all. It smashed against the house behind me and I just stood there freaked out. This was a neat video, but I'm extremely glad that you didn't get cut with that flying piece of knife, Charlie. That could've taken out an eye if it'd gone right. I'm glad you're ok. And I'll definitely watch another of these if you get the better equipment and take another stab at it, so I guess I'm part of the problem.
Charlie's knife breaks and flies away, so Matt immediately jumps on it and does the same thing lmao. Yall might need to wear goggles if you're gonna do this again for some reason lol
Stab vests and plate carriers are two things you do not want to cheap out on. When I was a detention officer they gave us vests that go around for $200 new and I questioned if I really wanted to trust my life in a vest and went out and bought a $1200 one that was also IIIA bullet proof just because it was so light and worth the extra money.
Reminds me of a Corner Gas scene. Davis (the senior cop in Dog River) tells Karen (the newer cop) that he got enough money to buy himself a taser by cheaping out and getting "Bullet Resistant" vests instead of Bulletproof, and Karen responds by saying "Have you ever camped in a water resistant tent, you get pretty wet"
As a former British Police officer I brought my own vest and placed two steel armoured plates under the vest on front and back. I could still be stabbed under the arms or side. I've seen a knife attacker not penetrate the front material on a colleagues vest but the blade attack broke the rips and caused alot of bruising. These are "Anti" stab. Best thing to do if you have no weapon , is run away. Don't fight a knife attacker unless you have at the very least a Batton to defend yourself.
Real life advice right there. Knife fights are ultra violent stuff you just don't wanna be in. The Steel plate is a good idea for some extra blunt force trauma protection. You defo still gonna notice it but getting hit on an AR500 plate is different then taking one into fabric...
I'd say if your worried about getting stabbed buy an AR500 steel plate for modern use But if you need more flexibility and willing to spend more money and not worried about getting made fun off, buy a good riveted chainmail But if you are worried about bullets then spend extra money on ceramic plates because bullet spalling is definitely an issue against rifle rounds Also with plates don't cheap out on plate carrier
Hats off to you and other brave officers!!! What you guys face and deal with is nuts and I respect you for it!!! Geez I saw a video of a guy being stabbed with what looked like a tiny jab in the stomach... It killed him in under a minute because the crim hit an artery. Be safe as you can out there! Wishing you the best!
As a security guard in London I deal with a lot of crazies on a daily basis, this video is actually really helpful in establishing how much I need to spend on a vest, cheers Charlie.
out of pocket soft armor isn't really great for stab resistance. worst case scenario some guy 200lbs or so on... Fun Powder, just slams a sharpened screwdriver into your sternum or something. that will probably bust anything on the market. most stab vests are limited. soft armor is still fabric. THAT SAID. consider hard armor. the knight wore this, it is good enough for you. it sounds funny, but a 2-3mm carbon steel plate slightly curved can deflect hunting arrows and negate anything short of a man with a handgun. (you'd need slightly thicker metal for that, 4mm or so) alternatives include brigandine armor or chainmail, the former being somewhat more comfortable while also maintaining about the same protection for blades, and the latter being german issue for some police in stabbing situations.
@@AleV69692 stab vests are worse than actual medieval hard armor systems designed to repel swords and warhammers. What a revelation. there are cases where someone with a kitchen knife and a runup shoved it through the vest, or someone with a screwdriver managed to punch through
Charlie actually did it, I remember when he was talking about the viewer suggestions and somebody suggested a tier list of bulletproof vests. Let's hope that viewer gets recognized for the idea.
A friend of mine said that chainmail armor is very effective against cuts. What he didn't know is that it does not protect against stabbing. Rest in peace, Jack.
@@luisbetancourt-dp7hh Rapiers actually kinda suck against proper chainmail. Like real riveted chain mail will never have a gap big enough for a sword tip to pass through by any significant amount, and a rapier isn't just gonna go straight through the chainmail and bust all the links in it's way (Unless it's the commonly thought of butted chainmail that you typical see, which is usually sucks)
@@synister_fruit_bat_gamedev3368 well depends really, after all war has always been a fight between weapon and shield, certainly rapiers may have been effective against a type of chainmail, but surely chainmail would also adapt to counter and so on... Human ingenuity will never be entirely triumphed upon
@@luisbetancourt-dp7hh I get where you're coming from, and you might be right to some extent, our records aren't exactly perfect so a lot could have been lost. But also, Rapiers weren't really weapons of war, they were for dueling or civilian self-defense from all the sources we have, so they were designed specifically to fight unarmored opponents and never really needed to evolve to contend with armor.
A bit of both I'm sure. Plus Matt has some really long arms so his leverage is a lot better regardless of strength. Edit: After being a fan of this channel for about 3 years now, I JUST realized that Matt from this channel and Andrew from the podcast are two completely different people.
Wow. The fact that site was even able to advertise that vest as "Anti-Stab" absolutely unreal. And Charlie's a god teir. He was never in any true danger here.
@@mugnuzit is legit no one knows how to read the listing on the wish site. Not even Charlie it seems. The vest is a plate carrier, meaning you have to buy your own plates
The thing to remember with modern body armour is that it's a battle of compromises. One material is good against blades, but not bullets, the other bullets, but not blades, and you're constantly trying to minimise weight and allow more freedom of movement.
Modern armor vests, carriers, and plates don't hinder your mobility like an Interceptor vest or police entry vest would. The biggest issues are concealability and breathability. Level IIIA soft vest with pockets for level IV ICW plates. Or a cocealable level IIIA soft vest and a low-vis/slick level IIIA/IV plate carrier on top. Take measures to avoid heatstroke. Beware of "cheat rings" when buying hard armor plates from overseas. Do your research. And for god's sake, DO NOT buy steel plates.
I'm glad someone finally had the courage to stand up to society and kindly suggest "I think it's time we stop stabbing each other" Even if no one else will, I support you on this Charles ✊️
Matt had to hit multiple times the last one, and it penetrated like an inch so it's still not a lethal wound. It's very different from just casually go through the first hit like the second last
Charlie’s journey to becoming an operator is getting better and better. Neat seeing Matt wearing some Safelife Defense body armor, I have some myself. Definitely recommend
5 Months Ago Charlie: "Oh and also one big shoutout to the absolute madman the maniac who suggested a couple of times to... do a bulletproof vest tier list, where we each wear bulletproof vests and then shoot each other in the chest and see which one does the less damage underneath... so who has less broken ribs." -Homie got his video, sorta...
The first one was a plate CARRIER the second was a shirt for work related hazards and the third was meant for hunting All of those three weren't made for human stab attacks
Next time you do one of these with super cheap knives you may want some eye protection lol. The only knife there that was more likely to bend rather than shatter is the ka-bar as it's most likely a softer carbon steel meant to take a beating.
There is a reason you see certain police forces, notably the Germans, using actual chain mail when dealing with criminals using knives or similar. You can even find some photos of them using a chain mail under a bulletproof vest, really cool stuff. On that note, stopping cuts is way different than stabs, that's why you see the shirt @5:40 dealing with slashes, but easily getting penetrated by a stab. That kind of shirt is used by people who work with sharp materials and could get cut a lot, but not really stabbed.
4:17 Charlie missed a golden opportunity to say "I wouldn't recommend getting your safety equipment from Wish, because you'll be _wishing_ you got it somewhere else."
charlie: *holding knives that could severely injure or kill someone* also charlie: *giggling so purely like a little school girl* Edit: since everyone is a lil snowflake and couldn’t take a joke i had to change it. shoutout to the like 4 people who actually understood this lmao… to the rest of you: R/Woosh, get better humor.
Literal life ending knives? What kind of ancient snowflake language is that? Like that isnt even normal level snowflake way to call a knife its the final snowflake boss language
@@younge2386 well, i relate because i am 15 and i have 10 knives in my room. I never looked at them as LIFE ENDING DEVICES OF MASS DESTRUCTION, more like tools or toys, or rarely means of self defence. Knives are tools that you can make a campfire, carve something or dig a hole with etc. If he held a gun then this still would be a little overstatement since most people have guns for fun and to feel safe, but at least guns are only made to end lives, unlike knives. Im guessing that where the commenter lives knives are treated as deadly sins by the local law and there is stigma around them, thankfully in poland i can carry a sword through the streets. (Literally)
