brother, surely you have to do this again? I LOVE chewing on some meat, but I also curious to know what you think of both vegan and meat products as they are supposed to be eaten, ofc disclude the rolls, kit kat etc
I went vegan for a year (between 2022-2023) and lost 3 stone in weight. Still can't decide if it was because the food was healthier or i was just less included to eat it coz it didn't taste as nice! The alternatives are massively better than they were 20 years ago (I should say meat alternatives, I was vegetarian when I was younger for 2 years, its never stuck for long I miss tasty food too much) but essentially they don't taste great as you're finding out. I never understood for the most part why they wanted to market meat alternatives to people who don't want to eat animals (for the most part lol). The worst offenders imo are fake bacon, chicken, and minced beef (quorn). Replicating texture always seems to be a difficulty. The fake sliced sandwich meats are pretty dire too. Cheese has to be made with coconut milk usually and to me that leaves an awful after taste (id recommend the nutty cheese or smoked ones if you want to try a vegan cheese). Then the milk? Where do you even start. Almond, oat, soya, coconut? they all seem to taste like sugar to me. (After a year fully vegan though, everything else tasted incredibly sweet). Great video and look forward to seeing if you try any more from the range 😂
I think its important to remember these vegan foods arent meant to taste exactly like something but more be a nice enough and close enough replacement that you can be vegan and not miss out at a bbq or have a cheat day and have a kit kat etc. So allot of them seen to do their job here 😊
It's exactly that . Can't use milk on the vegan one as milk isn't vegan . Hence it's ghostly appearance . I was actually surprised how good the vegan one tasted , tried it out of curiosity . Tried not to look at the filling , it's weirdly pink 😂 This comment also allowed me to use the word ' hence ' 😂
I like to vegan ones also and prefer them, they taste good, maybe a little too porky for my liking but I'm just more relaxed not eating meat overall, HENCE i go for the vege ones haha
Inventor of the Kit-Kat. The original four-finger version of the bar was developed after a worker at Rowntree's York factory put a suggestion in the recommendation box for "a chocolate bar that a man could take to work in his pack up. As they were from Yorkshire, I'm guessing their name was Mr or Mrs Upperdownth'lettlethwaite.
As a Yorkshireman, I have had numerous fantastic farm shop and butchers pastys. Ginsters shouldn't be touched with a 10ft barge pole unless stopped at a service station late at night with no other option.
Great vid Ed. Not surprised by your findings. Went to a party a few years ago. Some vegan stuff served. Thought I would give it a go. And the only thing i remember were that the "chicken nuggets" tasted like the box that they came in. Never bothered again.
I have never seen that product from Quorn. I normally enjoy a lot of their food, especially their fake chicken nuggets and patties. Those pastries did not look good at all. Nice video as always, Ed 😀🙌
😂😂😂 When you spoke about “Damian” I knew exactly the type of kid you meant. Mine at school was called Theresa 😂😂😂 And how was your arse the day after the vegan stuff? It always gives me the sh&ts. Great vid as always, thanks Ed ❤❤❤❤
I got a Costa “Too good too go” bag and I opened it up to find 6 vegan bacon baps, tried one and tasted like soggy frazzles on bread. Couldn’t even trick the kids either by telling them it was real bacon 😂😂 great video Ed and I agree on the Greggs vegan sausage rolls
I've tried a few meat alternatives and found some are OK, although I wouldn't say I've found any to be superior. One of the things I do find is that often the vegan alternative is much more highly seasoned, probably as the meat substitute (soya, pea protein or whatever) is generally much more bland tasting than real meat so more salt and other seasonings are added to give it some taste.
Cheers from Brazil ❤. My first vegan Food was a Linda Mccartney Burger, it was great, tastes good and nice aspect. Honestly, without knowing, no problem at all. That should be the goal for those vegan menu. Keep up the good work.
I'm not a vegan, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of some vegan food. Doner Summer near the Corn Exchange in Leeds sells some amazing food and it's all vegan. It's my go to place to eat in Leeds, you should give it a try
I recently had the vegan sausage roll from Greggs and I was genuinely questioning if i was given the meat one by mistake. It tasted really similar to the meat one, I did actually get the vegan one though.
As someone who worked for a bakery brand owned by (and later rebranded as) Greggs as a kid - the meat products are browner because they have an egg/milk wash. Those things aren't vegan, so the vegan products aren't as brown. I've had both sausage rolls and I find the vegan one more filling, so it saves you a bit of money, I suppose. Also, I don't know why nobody has labelled vegan beef products fake steak yet. Greggs could have a fake steak bake. The stuff they layer the wafers with in Kitkats, I've heard, is made up of other, broken Kitkats, so that's probably why the vegan chocolate has affected the wafers too.
5:40 the reason richmond sausages are 'crap' is cus they're only 40% meat. real sausages are all natural casing and more like 90% ground pork filling, grab a few from a local butcher and your mind will be blown, i promise you
