Cameras have come a long way over the years, and you no longer need to spend a fortune to get great photos in most cases. But how little can you get away with spending? I visit Snowdonia National park with the cheapest camera I could find on Amazon in this video, to see if a camera that has 18 megapixels and costs less than a t-shirt can deliver good results!

Seems to me a camera like this would be good for someone throwing crap on Ebay, up close photos, quick family pics, stuff that you're not going to print, etc. I know if I was going to take nice, outdoor pics, not taking my smaller Sony 20mp camera, I'm grabbing my old Sony DSC-H300 which still takes great out door photos for what it is, because when I bought it, it was what I could afford and I've taken amazing pics with it.

There are lots of these toy cameras on the market, I'm sure we are all aware to avoid these bits of plastic, are we not!! I took one of these apart just to see what was inside, I'm sure you can guess, there was mainly empty space, and some other bits of plastic. Couldn't re-assemble it, so it went straight in the trash. This was a nice 'make folks aware' video James. Till next time.

TBH..., I was rather unimpressed with the Pixel 2 pics. As for the cheapie camera..., £29.95 is a quite expensive 'toy'. As for the market for that camera..., the sellers have got it right, and, er, you're wrong. Anyone who's in the market for a new camera at £29.95 is exactly the kind of person who will look at the Mexapixel count, not understand much more than that, and willingly cough up the £29.95. Just my opinion , of course.

You don't know what your talking about, this is a great camera. As soon as I got this beauty I threw out my Nikon D810. Why? well the size is amazingly small and er, it has a nice sticker on it. Does the Nikon D810 have a nice sticker on it? no it doesn't. Case closed.

I liked the photos from the cheap camera more than the pixel, I guess I'd use my soft gnd to get a bit more of dynamic range, a simple tripod for cellphones and that is all. The Pixel has much computational alteration to my taste.

I agree. The cheap camera has much better colors than the pixel and over all does not look bad. The down side is the cheap camera has a massive crop, it is over exposed, the clouds and sky are washed out, everything looks pulled in with less depth, and if you look at the grass close up the detail is a lot lower. Somehow I still think the cheap camera looks better over all.

What I took from this video: if you're absolutely broke and want to make videos to share your photos on RU-vid, the cheapest camera is actually kind of not totally unusable because viewed on a phone screen (like most users do) they look fine. Or at least as bad as anything else after RU-vid's compression.

Huh. I was actually rather impressed by how good the shots came out, all things considered. Sure, they're shit by today's standards, but I was kind of _expecting_ major hot potato garbage like the ones I took from my old Palm Zire 71 PDA (300k pixels!). i unironically really like the "retro nat-geo feel" of the cheap camera. The colors are interesting, the lightning is pretty shit to be fair, the sky is just a white blob. But it has potential to take interesting wildlife photos? maybe? I need to see how it performs on moving objects and maybe with lens

Bit late reply, but I think a second hand camera by a reputable brand would be better than this for teaching kids to develop an eye for this. If you look around, you can find great bargains (I found a Sony HX60 for 40 bucks for example). It even does 1080p50 video recording with image stabilization.

It was never going to be "world beating" at £30 but some zoomed in comparisons between cheap camera, phone and Panasonic photos would have shown just how rubbish it was. The scenery was stunning. Thanks for posting, I hope you weren't blocking up the roads in Snowdonia! :-)

I thought the pictures looked pretty good on my computer monitor (~16" diagonal and an older screen). Maybe enlarged the pictures are crap but the camera appears to be better than nothing. I liked the test pics better than those by the cell phone. The pictures might be good for Instagram or similar online websites. Point and shoot (not a horrifying experience to one who didn't get into digital until I was +40 years old); don't need film (or the expense of processing that); don't know about battery life or if it's easy to find extra batteries; and almost zero control over how the camera sees (the macros weren't great, but I have trouble with flower pics using a better camera). I don't think it was a waste of money (it could be a tax write off, too!). It could be used as a gift after all.

You can find an Olympus Camedia C-5050 used for between $20-60 so, same price range and while it only has 5mp it's images are a million times better than that camera. It even has a reasonably sharp f/1.8 35-105mm eqv. zoom lens on it. You can get a good camera in this price range.

I really liked the first image, because it doesn’t look so crazy hdr-like and has a nice contrast and colors, almost like 35mm film. I know it blew the highlights but I like it. It kinda looks like a phone-shot edited with a warm vsco filter. So yes, off to amazon I guess 🚀

I have that Cam. Its pretty good for inside at conventions. I have tiny hands... so Mouse. It works for not too far apart in okay lighting and your subject is 10 feet or so away and to take pics of small stuff on tables. >its nice to have a point and shoot (or your phone) at events. Think snapshots and its FINE the size of the image gives you room to Crop out and frame people better. I also dont mind handing it to folks I carry extra cameras like this. I like to set kids up with one. Its a Great little teaching tool

For 30 bucks you can get a pretty decent point and shoot in muy country. I see a Sony, a Samsung, both with cmos BSI sensors, zoom, decent Lens, 1080p 30fps recording, and with a "bundle". The Sony Is with 3 batteries and a mini tripod. They have PASM modes. None of both shoot in RAW. I think the results Will be a lot better than a chinese crap. I know because i am searching for a cheap little decent camera to replace a dead cheap Action camera for hiking and bicycle, mostly for videos

I have to say, what this video really proved to me was that it’s not the camera, it’s the photographer and the subject... it may just be the RU-vid algorithm, but at a brief glance, those photos were good photos - composition, light, subject etc. Fine details may have been lost, but you caught the moments beautifully...

Well, on my 32" 1080p monitor, those photos looked Ok. That being said, I am perplexed why anyone would think a dirt cheap camera would take high quality photos. For 30 quid, you can probably pick up a half-decent used camera.

Lools like my first digital camera I bought was in Singapore on the way to Iraq in 2003. At just under $300, it sported a massive 3mp and no type of zoom function. It was a beast though. Survived being thrashed around in my pack for 6 months in the desert. And captured many memories.

Phones plummet in price, especially everything that isn't Samsung and iPhone, you can get incredible phone cameras from 3 years ago for cheaps.. A phone costing 1000 costs 160 now, but a camera that cost 1000 3 years ago is probably 700 now

OMG lol you don't actually believe it has an 18MP sensor do you? Nah mate, nah.... Sorry to break it to you, 18MP is literally the model name of the camera, like a sarcastic suggestion, as if it has "air quotes" around it like "eighteen" *lol "mega pixel" *wink. I dare say the camera lens, chip and sensor are probably upcycled from some very old phones or laptops that went unsold, stripped and repackaged into a plastic box with a button and screen and resold at the very lowest price point to recoup some losses on the old stock.

Even the agfa 5500 has a tripod mount and that camera is a budget model that is probably better than that unbranded camera my rule of thumb is to spend a minimum of £50 when buying a basic digital camera because that way you will get a decent one for the price that you pay £30 is to cheap you will find that the sensor in cheaper budget compact cameras is 5 mega pixel or less it only intopolates to the size printed on the camera and you only need a 5 Mega pixel picture for a standard 6 buy 4 photo and will even work for up to A4 size people get blinded by mega pixel size that really isn't Needed by most people

I'm a few years late in this one know but I still had to ask... Did you look at these photos on an old CRT pc monitor? Seriously, even in my 4KTV, could I see that those photos look anything BUT rubbish here. If anything I'm more impressed how well they turned out in such a cheaply priced (at the time) Camara. After all that time, it just sounds like all the bias from using that Pixel 2 influenced your takes on this thing here which just adds to how unfair it was after all that time waiting to see the results of said photos.

I wish i got to visit some of the places you go. It seems perfect to just sit while doing some self- reflection. If you want a fancy point and shoot with a nice prime lens i'd say look at the lumix lx100 or the fujifilm x100f. The difference is one is $500 and the other is $1000 which at that price you can buy the G9

My Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS9 travel point and shoot camera cost me $33 dollars with a Leica lens snd optical zoom! You pay what for what you get and that fixed focus toy camera was a scam at $30. They could have built a high quality camera without packing so many megapixels into that tiny sensor! Live and learn. 😂😊

lol, nice video. I bought a Canon A550 for 5 bucks and one Sony w310 for also 5 bucks. And both of these cameras can take good photos!

i have a kodak 18mp camera that was bought for me to do my vape reviews but i dont know if the quality will be better than my logitech c920 webcam!..so i havent hooked it up to my computer yet to see lol

I didn't twig where you were until you said tryfan. I've taken pictures of the same mountain using an even cheaper camera; I made it from a matchbox I found on the ground, and part of a can from an emerge energy drink, a sliver of plastic I took from an ice cream tub, and a lot of black electrical tape. Pinholes ftw

What do you mean rubbish? What do you mean your G9 is your actual camera?! You’re not switching to the incredible “18-Megapixels-Sticker-Mini-CD” by the great Chinese camera maker “Welcome”? It has NO TRIPOD MOUNT! That’s a selling point, no?!? Such a Lumix fan boy aren’t ya... :P

I have tried to shoot this kind of camera in lower pixel settings, smaller picture will come back better results. I always think large pixels is only designed if you need the photo comes large, as displayed on a big big screen, not on a normal computer screen, and usually a smaller picture with much smaller size that only to be seen on a computer screen or smaller prints will do just as fine, have more depth of view, more details, more 3-D, because there are less noise between the dense pixels.
