Just a thing, the orange you have tu cut it the other way, by the middle not top to bottom it gets more juice that way. My family has have one for YEARS and they are amazing
Try the electric juicer again but cut your oranges correctly, through the center like East to West, not North to South or from the stem to the bottom. You need to cut through the belly of the orange in order to be able to break through all the juice membranes. 😁 no length ways cuts!!
Ah yeah there was a scene with another orange cut that way as I liked the gadget that much but I didn't put it in the final version of the edit, not that I knew that was the correct way lol I guess I need to work in a juice bar now lol
I too was shouting at the TV. Always cut citrus across. Also go anti clockwise with using piping/icing bags. Better flow with more accuracy. Merry Christmas Barry and family
The pizza slicer probably has the sharpener set to clamp down too far because over time the blade is going to slowly lose metal off the edge and shrink so having that extra give in the sharpener would extend its lifespan
I'm so glad you did a review of that sushi maker. I got one some years ago in a box of odds and bobs from a flea market. Until just now, I had no idea what it was and for the last four years I've been using bits of it as a drying rack for cutlery. It works very well for that purpose, so I don't think I'll hunt out the rest of it and try to make sushi. But it's one of life's mysteries solved - so thank you very much.
Sounds like something I'd do. I remember the first time I seen an egg slicer, it was an old vintage metal one, I found in my mom's drawer and she didn't know what it was either and I was sure it was some sort of onion slicer, I brought it home to show my husband and he laughed at me, and said that it was not an onion slicer, it was an egg slicer, lol, I was so upset
Those juicers are popular in Germany. In my family we always had freshly pressed juice in the winter, now my parents have juice everyday. When I lived at home but got up much later and everyone had breakfasted, I hardly ever made myself juice and my mother would moan at me I did not have my vitamins. The time, water and effort it took to clean the damn thing was just not worth making a glass of juice. Btw, you cut the orange the wrong way. It juices better if you cut the other way, so that the flower bit is you top or bottom you press on. And how much juice you get depends on the variety of orange. Some are better for eating, some for juicing.
This is 100% correct. I was actually impressed by the amount of juice he got out since most of the oranges sold in grocery stores are for eating not juicing.
In the netherlands as well. Had it since as long as I can remember. My mom made fresh orange juice a lot when we were kids. She still has the same one, I think its about 20 years old now and still works perfectly. There are also newer ones where you dont need to hold the orange yourself anymore, but it has a handle to hold it and push it down.
@@strayiggytv in the netherlands we always have seperate versions at the supermarkets, but I often buy the ones that are labeled for eating, because I noticed the juice from those is sweeter than the ones for juicing.
Hi Barry I had to tell you about that piping pen. I worked in a retail bakery as a cake decorator for 3 years. At some point corporate decided everyone in the bakery/ deli area needed to learn to write on cakes and those exact pens were their "solution". They sent us 4 of them that never got used and sat in a drawer. We were meant to put no more than 2 ounces of icing and were only meant for writing. They were just as cheaply made.
I have the pen thing and thought it would help with my arthritic hands… complete waste of time due to the fact I spent more time filling the piping bag with the smallest amount of icing… still have it, hoping it’ll come in handy some day for something.
You never sharpen anything with "full pressure". The pizza cutter sharpener is spot on and I find it completely intuitive as would anyone that sharpens their kitchen knives regularly. I really like the sushi machine as well.
My mom had one of those sushi gadgets when I was a teen. It was so much fun to use. I gotta go dig in her cabinet and see if she still has it cuz I have an urge to make sushi hearts now. 😀 Edit: little tip- put more rice in, use more then u think ull need. So that way when u press, they compact more and they will keep their shape better. Also make sure when u make ur rice, to put a tiny bit of white vinegar and white suger into it. It will help the rice become really sticky.
Dear barry, this has been one of the roughest weeks for me. Your genuine joy in your video especially when you made heart-shaped sushi truly made my week a little better. Thanks for all that you do. I appreciate it mate
I agree his videos are great for bad days. I esp love the kitchen hack videos he n mrs b always crack me up. 😁 Hope next week will be much better for u! 🌻🙏
Am I going crazy or did he not use the Ortwo with one hand? Im confused about how that would work. Does it just ratchet back to the start with each squeeze?
The way you cut the orange makes a difference ......all the individual orange segments on the inside were still closed in... next time try cutting the orange the other way
Never expected I would see an electric juicer in a gadget video. Those are so common in Greece, for a really long time now and even big brands, like Kenwood, make them so I imagined they would be as easily available all around the world.
Why did you have so much excess piping bag at the tip? That was part of the problem as you weren't able to push to nozzle in properly. And you clearly had way too much icing in that bag.
Hi Barry! Sushi makers can be great! One hint...if you toast the seaweed (nori) before you make the sushi, it will work better. It's not hard to do. You can find videos that show you how to do it, but basically you hold it over the stove burner briefly (maybe 5-10 seconds). It makes the seaweed more crispy, and it helps the sushi taste better and hold together better in the final product. There are so many good fillings for sushi when you make it at home, too. One of my favorites is avocado with cucumber - the two together are really delicious! Merry Christmas to you and your family, and thanks for all of your wonderful videos.
That pepper grinder reminds me of the "Bunny ears" style grinders I got around 2000 - I had the full size and a pair of smaller ones that had magnets in them. The handles were close enough you could easily squeeze them to operate with one hand, not awkwardly far apart like those. They were great, until you needed to clean them. I don't like pizza cutters of any type: always hard to clean bits, tend to drag the cheese around instead of cutting, and dangerous in your drawer. We just use an Ulu knife - much neater cuts, easy to clean and store safely. I got the impression that the icing tool was meant for much thinner icing (like royal icing or gel glaze), and just to add decoration, not to properly ice the whole thing.
Those type of electric juicer are actually quite common in some European countries. My parents have one and have always had similar ones though their lives.
A sharp pizza cutter may be good for thick meats but i use a plastic cutter by Joseph&Joseph that works very well too. It's just a piece of plastic with a thin rounded edge. No scratches, easy to clean and no gunk build up between the handle and the blade. But it doesn't slice as easily of course.
I think you said it all when you said "Yeah, the first time I did it, I struggled, but that was literally like a knife through hot butter..." I would truly love to see you do a video of you sharpening a pizza wheel on a sharpening stone - I would never be able to catch my breath from ROFLMAO...
I think the piping pen thing failed due to user error. The tip didn't sit properly into the hole because of the coupler you were using, Barry (aka, the white plastic collar you were using to hold the tip in the bag). If you had just put the tip in the bag on its own, I think it would've worked better. Either way, the gadget itself did seem pretty cheap and useless.
I have this pen and the only thing that Barry did wrong was over fill the piping bag. The pen thing is only good if you only require the smallest amount of icing/chocolate etc for writing or small amounts for gluing sugar decorations onto cakes etc. I got mine on the recommendation that it would help with my arthritic hands….. verdict … complete waste of time.
Easy way to sharpen your pizza cutting wheel, or just about any kitchen blade, take any ceramic or stoneware mug and invert it to reveal the unglazed rim and then draw the edge of the blade across the unglazed strip. With practice you will very quickly learn how to angle the two surfaces to achieve the required results. Personally I prefer to use a herb cutting “half-moon blade” to slice my pizza, it is much more controlable and less likely to skid across the platter.
I just cut pizza with scissors. Thumbs up if you do too! I just dont see the point in owning something which only has one function, especially a function I can perform with something else I already have 😀
I dont know if anyone will answer this, but has barry done the slap chop before, and if so, can you tell me the number of thr video, I'd be really interested in seeing his perspective on it
My phone literally just died, I only have phone internet, I had to find an old wonky phone to get functioning internet and get hold of those that might wonder why I am not answering..... and as soon as I got that phone connected and sharing internet on my computer, this popped up! Nothing helps more than Barry frosting himself :D Ive gone from angry triangle to a heart!
We've had this for ages. And even at my parent's in the 90's as well. This is really nothing special... What you really want is a combination of electric juicer and manual press.
It's a chinese knock-off of Daiso, a brand of specialty stores in Japan that do the same things. Even the packaging of the Miniso product is in Japanese outside but in Chinese inside.
@@mhetralla And their stores take queues from Xiaomi and Apple. China has no concept of "knock-offs," they just call it inspiration. And it isn't like brands like these rip off other brands, they make genuinely nice stuff, they just borrow good ideas from other brands. I say this because there are genuinely bad knock-offs made in China but those also don't care about quality and just want to scam people. Miniso isn't one of them.
Idk, I've had my $2.⁰⁰ pizza cutter for about 9 years now and it's still very sharp. Now if they made that in a smaller size, for cutting fabric, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, because those blades don't last for long and I'm constantly having to buy new blades
Again, are you just being awkward for the sake of the video?? Are you not supposed to turn the pizza cutter sharpener by hand?? That would make more sense surely.
Miniso are interesting as they are a Chinese knock-off of Japanese variety stores like Muji and Daiso. When they first opened their stores in China, they claimed to be a famous Japanese brand even though they only had stores in China.
1:55 "'can be used for grinding all types of spices and seeds' - ooo, i might stick something else in it as well!" barry i wouldn't, you don't wanna go to a&e at the moment
Hello again, Have to share this with you… In another comment to you I ranted about our free range chickens well one has adopted me as its protector or mom(?). She stays up later than any chicken we have ever had (as late as 11 pm!) so I named her “Night Owl”. Tonight I fell asleep in my chair (again) but was awoken when little Night Owl jumped in my lap! Unfortunately since I wasn’t expecting that I swatted her away! Poor little Night Owl! Thanks for listening and Happy Easter! Big fan of your videos! Thanks for making so many of them!!!
