So, I've never been an avid reader, but I ran across this quote one day and it was something along the lines of the average CEO reads about 60 books a year. That’s a lot but it did motivate me to wanna read more. Growing up, my brother had an e-reader that he loved and would always carry around. I never got the appeal, I always thought I would rather read a physical book and if I was going to read off a screen, I might as well use a phone or a tablet which offers way more functionality. Basically, I thought e-readers were kinda silly, and just another piece of tech that companies were trying to sell us on. But you know what? I’ll admit it, I was wrong. Ever since I started using this e-reader, I’ve read more in the past few months than I have in the past 3 years.

I recently got the larger Max Lumi (same brand as your model, Omni Boox). While it would not work as well with your carry-around usage, it is great for reading more complex documents such as technical full-page PDFs. Also, a big deal for me is having a stylus, and passive Wacom compatible (your model also has this). E Ink is neat stuff, but it is important to understand its current limitations. And finally, this brand's tablets are full Android devices, so Android apps can be installed. Sure, most don't work well with E Ink, but as a developer, this is a huge bonus.

First thing iI noticed after getting my Kobo was that the battery on my smartphone was at 70% when I came home from work! People really need to understand, that A person is what a person surrounds them with. Reading negative discussions on facebook, reading misleading news online etc etc. I much rather read a good book! Thank God I found my way back to reading, and the ebooks really helped with that.

As weird as it sounds some books never get digital releases or are more easily found as a physical release in some areas. So keeping both a digital and physical collection of books isn't so strange. I've been binging some of physical books recently because I buy so many that I don't always read right away. Good for you on reading what you enjoy and good luck to you in the future with it as well.

I love both formats. Having a Kindle doesn't impede you to have tons of books too, but you can be more selective with the ones you have in your space. What I do sometimes is having the same book in paperback and digital, so you can use both depending of the situation (for example, the paperback in your house and the kindle outdoors)

As someone who read novel everyday, I was hardcore love physical books, I love the smells of the print. Until on 2012 I decide to buy my first Kindle and I was hooked. I still love book, but after multiple moving, having large collection of book cost lots of money to move because its so heavy :( Lots of my collection also get damaged due to water leaked on my home. And currently having lots of books cramping my minimalist lifestyle. Kindle also save my irritated eyes too.

As a writer and a bit old-school, I've found reading electronically is the way to go. In fact, I think I would have done better in school had it been available. My Samsung Book is pretty much my ereader. My MSi laptop is my main library, my Note 9 (still the best as far as I'm concerned) when I'm on the go and need to utilize time in a productive manner. Easy to download, upload and share between devices. Calibre is the main digital library and it's just a wonderful way to read. Oh, I normally read 1 or 2 books a week. I used to take pride of my personal library back in the 70's and 80's. Today, you'd be hard-pressed to find a real book in my home, in fact, I won't read one of those anymore. So much easier to utilize digitally.

All your points you said in the video really convinced me and made me feel like maybe getting an eReader will be more beneficial for me, especially helping me to read more books faster. Whenever I thought I should read with a physical book, it's always hard getting into it because I would rather be watching videos or webcomics than reading the book. Of course, it doesn't mean physical books are bad and eReaders are good or vice-versa they have different functionalities that work for different people and different settings.

Good points made for having an ereader. Though not mentioned in the video, I had forgotten about the text to speech capability until I ran across your video, then suddenly I remembered using that feature. I reset up my text to speech on mine up today. This is also possible on desktop/laptop computers and tablets, but you don't get this option with the physical copy of a book, unless you have a wonderful friend who is willing to be at your beck and call to read to you. That being said, there are certain books I like having a physical copy onhand. Infact, there are some books I like having both the physical copy and the digital copy, whereas, some books work fine as simply a digital book alone. Nice that we now how both options and many authors offer a lower price for purchasing both at the same time.

I thought the same thing til I got myself a kindle PW about two months ago. I CARRY IT AROUND LIKE A BABY. It's small enough to fit into my smallest purses, it's light, it's tougher than my paperback books (I used to buy paperback for portability reasons and also because they're cheaper but they break SO EASILY, I was destroying them by taking them with me to the train station and such)... It's just brilliant. I am reading books that I wouldn't have picked up otherwise and like, I love the fact that I don't have to wait to start a book because I don't have to get it delivered. I just download it, send it via email and boom. ps: oh, the steamy novel thing was also a big motivator lol. much more discreet and comfortable than either buying the physical book or reading it off your phone.

Glad you are enjoying your new journey with an e-reader I too thought I could just get away with using my phone or tablet until I purchased my first e-reader/e-ink tablet early this year. I read a lot but sometimes my eyes don't want to cooperate with me due to health issues. I had been using my phone or a small android tablet until that point for the last 10 years. My eyes have bothered me far less since I started using the e-reader so much so that, I didn't realize until about two weeks into using it that my eyes had been irritated from my long reading sessions on my phone or other non e-ink display. They are a bit more expensive but, if you like reading manga do try to go for a 7.8 display you zoom in easily on some of that impossible to read free floating text in physical versions and get a much fuller experience. Happy reading!

Almost every point you touched on about e-readers is pretty much why I got one. I thought I was more of a physical book person too. I was reading books before hand but going to local libraries which was difficult at times because I was always too lazy to drive to the library. I would read on my tablet but have eye strain and fatigue after a while, too. Plus, reading on a tablet is not comfortable it too big and heavy. I say having a e-book is the best of both worlds the easy convince of taking it on the go and the pages look like a book on the e-book which lessons eye strain especially before bed.

I love physical books, especially the smell of a new book. But they really do take up alot of space and everytime you move there is that extra ton of boxes with only books. Anyway two things really sold me on ebooks. First it was the availability. No wait, no costs of delivery or longterm planning needed. Second it was the ease of use. Curriculum books are for some reason always huge. A4 in size, 400-700 pages of miniscule font size and soft backed making them impossible to read in a pleasant manner.

It’s so true. Had the exact same experience 2 years back. Only thing I’d add here is that I read web novels as well, and being able to read them off an e reader is just so much easier too. It’s great.

Great message. I decided to get an ereader because there were lots of articles I wanted to read, and got annoyed with the monitor screen. I would print them, and then had the issue of garbage. All solved by sending them from a website directly to the ereader.

I would be lost without my Kobo e-reader. One of the best gadgets I have ever purchased. Wished they had been around 30 years ago when I used to spend most of my time travelling. I find the best thing about a e-reader is the lack of fatigue trying to hold up the book when reading a large 1000 page tomb.

I remember about 20 years ago when my Sony rep brought in their first e-ink reader. I remember picking it up and asking if it was a new fake display because it looked like a piece of paper. When it changed pages, I was shocked. I then proceeded to ignore the tech until this week. I'm hoping the Boox Poke 3 is going to be good.

One day during lockdown I spent hours manually updating my kindle first edition that I got in like 2010, downloading each system update from the last decade or so lol. It still works a dream!! Free books, so easy and portable, use it instead of my phone for breaks all the time!

I read a grammar book that said "nauseous" does not mean "has nausea." It means causes nausea." I looked through all the books on my Kindle. I found that every author born before 1914 used nauseous to mean causes nausea and every writer born after 1945 used it to mean has nausea except for three. One was a journalist and one was a school teacher. Journalists and school teachers often preserve obsolete meanings, and one of them was the man who said it does nauseous does not mean has nausea. It took me minutes to find how hundreds of writers used "nauseous". It would have taken me years to do that before e-readers were invented.

Overdrive is not the only way to get free ebooks. I'm signed up to several different newsletters which showcase free ebooks from all platforms. Also, you can just go to the ebook providers' website and check out the constantly changing availability of free ebooks.

Just to add a little more info about Overdrive and libraries. If you don't have the best library in your town there are options like signing up with out of state libraries. They will charge a yearly fee but it really is minimal. I am from Mass. and I am a member of a library in Ohio. It cost me $25 for the year. That is basically the cost of two books and I know I will borrow more than two books from this library within a year.

I went 20 years without reading then i bought my first ereader now i read 50 books a year. FYI if you get a KOBO ereader you can access overdrive right from the device. Also its best for outside reading. no glare! BUT the new ipad air 2020 is easy to read on.

For the longest time I didnt like the idea of using an ereader, I used to read constantly but an ereader seemed very pricey, clunky, and I just thought it would take away from the experience. Last year though, I got one as a present, and it completely changed how I read; They are comfortable, they make reading at night easy, and with it, you basically have all of the world's literature in your hands. My ereader is pocket sized, yet has the ability to hold more books than I can read in my lifetime; I did the math.

Using an ereader or tablet allows you to make the text large enough to read without using glasses. Beats using a magnifying glass or hunting for large print books. I have found using the black screen and white type reduces eyestrain.

I was an early adopter of e-readers in the old days of the Sony e-readers. I stopped using them after I started reading on my tablet. But last year I was reading in bed and fell asleep. My tablet slid and fell to the floor and the screen broke. I then decided to get back into the e-reader world. It's like night and day!! I realized how much I missed my e-reader and how much better the reading experience is! I still fall asleep while reading, but my e-reader is much lighter and easier to hold that it just slides to the middle of the bed and doesn't fall on the floor !!! :-)

Kindle has saved my eyes from getting worse. I like bigger books, but they usually have very small writing to fit everything in. I was squinting and having to hold the book close just to see the words. I also recommended kindle to my friend, who only reads bits at a time because she gets headaches. I told her there was a dyslexic font, and after she switched she doesnt get headaches anymore!

Having met various authors of digital books either in person or online, I was contemplating role of self publishing in changing the way people interact with their literature. Just as content creation is now accessible to more people than ever before in terms of audio, visual, or written media, so are creators themselves more accessible, and this permits a dialogue between readers of digital books and their authors that go beyond what is written in the book, and into a wider conversation that expands upon the subject matter for the purpose of disambiguation, clarification, and contextualization (without always having to resort to the "its open to interpretation" dead end). Ultimately, I encourage anyone to try reading self published books by small time authors that they have access to, that way a more local community of authorship and readership could create bohemian circles of creative movements and innovations. In other words: If you read self published digital books of people you know, you are a part of a literary movement that may become bigger in the future, and even if it doesn't, you would have contributed to a small drop in the collective exchange of ideas and intellectual influence.

You can download the Kindle app on your phone and your local library app. I have a kindle device, however I use the phone app more now, easier to carry with you everywhere. I have a 5 minute somewhere, I just pull my iphone out of my pocket and continue to read. There are thousands of free business books available at the library. I usually take notes and then type them up on word for reference. With the Free library and unlimited RU-vid videos on any subject, there's no reason you can't learn anything that interest you.

I've been getting so much more into reading recently, but the biggest downfall of books for me is the weight it is the travel with them. I absolutely love real books, but if I want to keep up my reading when I move overseas soon, I think switching to an e-reader is the way to go! This video helped me so much with my decision to get one, thanks!

I do love my kindle, but I honestly read more off of my ebook reading app on my phone than anything else. (200+ books/audiobooks during quarantine... I think that was only possible because I have no kids) I would say about 85% of the time you see me staring at my phone I'm reading since I'm not a social media person, and I hate having long conversations/texting people on the phone, I'm more of a face-to-face person. My favorite thing is honestly listening to an audiobook/podcast while using a coloring book app on my phone, very relaxing.
