I’ve had and have all the best pedals money can buy, but this little pedal can really do everything I need, mod, delay, and verb wise. It works fantastic with acoustic guitar as well. Cool little pedal to take when you don’t want to bring a whole pedalboard with you, and really fun to play through.

I've had one for about 10 years and play in a jazz trio. I've been using it as a tuner and the Two Rock amp/cab for solos needing that Steely Dan mid-gain vibe. For my clean sound, I really like my Henriksen Bud, but I use a clean boost on the Zoom to punch it up a tad. I've been closely following digital multifx amp modeling across a lot of gear that I've kept or flipped. Funny thing is that for my needs, that one small and cheap pedal is perfect. Fits in my amp bag, not a tragedy if it gets stolen and is "good enough" for my purposes. JC is right that it is somewhat 2D....at home. But in a winebar it doesn't really matter to me. When I'm playing at home for fun or recording, I enjoy the depth that a lot of the new digital tools offer. But again, in a somewhat noisy winebar gig where we are tucked in the corner playing standards and pop-ish tunes, it covers the bases. Probably a good backup into a mixer for you guys that play covers.

Beautiful sounds mate. I've had the CDR version since its launch in 2013. It's know by many in the Electronic Music Community as a Synth Sweetener. Zoom has supported this series for ten years providing slight enhancements and extra emulation models. I think that's incredible. For a decade this budget pedal has been talked about, it's truly a musical... Swiss Army Knife. I'm still digging into these units a decade on. For experimental Artists it's a must.

I just got a MS-50G a couple months ago and I love it. I plug it straight into a Headrush FRFR 108. You don’t need an amp or anything else. Definitely keeping this pedal.

Love your playing - great phrasing. I think it's an amazing pedal for the price point. I think the gain sounds are just ok, but the delays and reverbs are very good. So overall it's just a compact multi effect pedal that can fill some holes in a pedal board, act as a good direct to PA back up if your amp goes out, or be a nice travel/practice solution. I am using mine for a compact pedal board to cover everything but the gain sounds. So basically this, a looper, and a few gain pedals. Simple and small for when I don't want to lug around the big board

I bought the Zoom MS-70CDR 6 years ago for general purpose FX work. Since then I was GASsing for the Zoom MS-50G I didn’t want to mess with the firmware (it IS possible to swap features between the 70 and 50). So this year '23 I finally managed to gather the spare Shekels to get the 50. I’m very pleased with it. I particularly like the character of Zoom’s ‘auto-filters’.

I have MS-70CDR and use it mostly for modulation effects. But when in shoegazing mood, 70CDR (all possible weird chains) -> Nemesis delay -> MXR M300 reverb -> looper. I could seat and play for hours. I think that for such low price it delivers pretty good soundscaping effects.

I keep a Zoom MS-70CDR in the studio to patch into the FX Loop (in stereo) of my Helix floor, simply to get some of the stuff that is still missing from the Helix even at version 3.5 firmware. Reverse reverb for example - come on Line 6. Oh, yeah, the Mooer DTP Ocean Machine also has some slick FX that Helix doesn’t do yet. Cheap and efficient tools to get the job done. Edit: Yep there is an editor available for the MS-70CDR on the Mac too.

The Zoom MS 100 BT has been around for about three thousand years or so. Stereo I/O plus Blue tooth. One option I utilized was using the ms50 to split a mono guitar signal to stereo and then run that into the MS 100. I guess you could go crazy and put the zoom MS 70 between the others…

I am in Michigan without power. These little boxes (I have the MS100BT) are battery powered. Guess what I will be playing this weekend! There are some solid effects on these. The H9 is audibly better and I believe has much better (in fact brilliant IMO) A/D conversion which is very noticeable on attack transients, but still, these Zooms are very cool. Yeah - I never bonded with the amp sims either, but for practice they are adequate. Some of the modulations are very good, and feeding an octave-up into a verb in place of the 'shimmer' yields better results for that kind of sound. The fine-tuning is very coarse in many ways though.

I have this and love it. My main pedal board is a full Strymon midnight board: compadre> riverside> Deco> Mobius> Timeline> Bigsky> Iridium (dubbed the Batboard)… I play professionally twice a week minimum, and this is all I use 20% of the time. Killer pedal. Don’t let cork sniffers (like me) tell you anything bad about this because a) it’s cheap b) it’s Zoom and c) it’s digital…. It is an amazing piece of gear. I once had someone ask if they could see my board because they were blown away by my tone. They almost didn’t believe me when I said this was all I was using. This one piece of gear is enough to go direct to a board or PA (or a back line amp) and give you more than enough for live performances. If I could have one pedal, this is it. And it runs on 2 AA batteries!
@Apodicticus

I bought one of these when they first came out, blew it up connecting to an old Hammond, replaced it immediately, and will probably buy the 'plus' model as soon as it comes out. I mostly use it as a single effect -- if I need some odd modulation effect, or a slightly different distortion than what's on my board, I use that. I also use it if I'm visiting and just want to bring a guitar and a small solid-state amp. The Zoom fits right in the guitar case, and gives me the essentials: a bit of compression, a touch of overdrive, a little reverb. I tend to use effects pretty sparingly, and at less extreme settings, they all sound quite good.

Recently, I was lucky enough to get a new (still in its bag) MS-50G off eBay UK for £70. I have a large and quite complex pedalboard, with three “channels” on an EHX Tri Parallel Mixer (for “regular guitar”, “SY-1 synth” and “EHX Superego”), plus an OMEC Teleport for patching in my iPad. I’d been using a ZOOM G1 Four in the “regular guitar” channel, to give me modulation, drives, compression and occasional amp-sims (though my usual AC30-type amp tone comes from a VOX Mystic Edge). However, the MS-50G gives me much the same capability as the G1, is half the size, and the chaining-patches option is super-useful on stage. I do find patch-creation/editing very fiddly on the pedal, so I prefer to connect the MS-50G to my Mac via USB, and create/manage patches using the ToneLib Zoom editor app. Wish there was an editor which ran on my iPad, though… I guess you can’t have everything!

While I agree that this can not compete with fractal or line 6, I have a zoom MS100bt, it has stereo in/out, a bluetooth app, and use the little guy as my comp, drive,preamp, and sometimes wacky verbs and delays. Cause, why not?.. My secret... I turn the cab on the amp block off and use a two notes cabm with it for my complete "amp" tone. This coupled w/timeline, ehx epitome, and neunaber verb, and I get great foh sound. For the price, this line of zoom pedals (MS) really can not be beat.. I think. 🙂

So first off it’s a 100 quid! it’s the same as a mid priced boss or MXR single sound pedal. That alone means more than one good effect makes it good value. It has plenty of useable to very good effects. The delays and verbs in particular sound great and because it’s stereo they can really shine. I’ve used it as a fly rig for a jam when I can’t be arsed to bring a full board, I’ve used it as part of my main rig in the fx loop of my JC22 (stereo loop) to expand my available sounds and I’ve used it directly into a recording interface. It’s very versatile, I’m also looking at a midi switch to make it more user friendly for potential live use.

Totally enamored of your playing on this!!! How you so gorgeously meld emotionality with prowess escapes me. And I had ordered this pedal a couple days before watching your video, on a hunch that it would be „good enough“ for my intended purposes as a mostly acoustic player wishing to through in some electric and hybrid guitar on my sets, but a) without taking up much pedalboard real estate, and b) being battery-powered for busking or quick-and-dirty garden parties, etc. Indeed the rest of my board is battery-powered if desired (and the Zuma is mounted underneath for other situations). The search of an „all-in-one“ pedal of small size and big (enough) punch was very, very tiresome. I already own a ToneX pedal, among other things, but that‘s no good for battery operation, and who was to lug a 2.5 kg power station around just to be „light and mobile“? Enter the Zoom… Yep, this is sure to be a keeper when it arrives today. Sure, there are better modelers out there, but no other such all-in-one package that ticks all the boxes for me. Folks considering it in RU-vid Land are well advised to note that only slightly more recent videos demo it with the 3.0 (or higher) firmware, which includes additional amps and effects.

I’ve had the MS70CDR for a few years, but finally decided to give amp modelling a chance last year, and I opted to get the MS50G rather than one of the expensive modellers everyone else uses. I know it gets a lot of dislike in the community, but it’s changed how I view modelling and changed how I run my setup. I think the key thing is that if you only set the amp models at around edge of breakup like I do, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this pedal. That, and I avoid almost all the dirt pedal models in it other than the Boost, RC boost, Tone Bender, Octavia, Guv’nor, and Centaur. Pretty much all the other drives are really bad sounding.

Pedals are getting quite expensive these days, I have been gassing for a delay and reverb pedal for my amps. This may be an option in the loop, maybe?! IDK menus diving isn’t my thing. Sounds nice.
@johnnathancordy

It could be - I guess you'd maybe just set the sounds up (with a couple of effects) and then set it and forget it. Whether or not it'd be as enjoyable long term as some of the posher effects I'm not sure, but it certainly seems like a pretty capable unit?

the menu system is quite intuitive once you grasp it. Even more less effort to manage your presets from a laptop via USB and then just tweak them where necessary with the pedal interface.

The G1Four is the same effects and more as far as I know. Looper, drum machine, headphone amp, awesome tuner and ton of effects. The only downside is the power of dsp that is limited and the IR that are not that good (cab sim done with eq) oh and dirt cheap.

I have all of them except the bluetooth one. There is a known high pitched noise issue when using a power supply but can be avoided using batteries, can't remember if certain isolated power supplies solved it or not. Side note, disaster area makes a usb midi footswitch that works with them.

The MS-50 it’s great, nothing but time-based affects I don’t really like overdrives in modelers I just love overdrive pedals too much… Really don’t care how good they are I’m just gonna stick with the overdrive pedals but as far as the time-based affects yeah I’m kind of made the transition so the 50 is perfect

I have both MS50 and MS70CDR. The MS50 is always in the trunk of my car as a just in case backup. As a multi instrumentalist I often have to carry a small guitar rig as well as a trumpet and a sax for jam sessions. The MS Pedals fit in the gigbag, In one hand I carry a DV Mark little Jazz Amp (only 6,9Kg), guitar gigbag on my back, sax bag in the other hand and trumpet bag under the arm. Done! But there are so many (better sounding) options today. I prefer to use my HX Stomp. I also have a NuX Mighty Plug Pro, which sounds better than the Zoom and you can predetermin an order and number of presets you can scroll through. And I also have the NuX MG30 (basically the same sounds as in the Mighty Plug Pro but with a more convenient UI + IR import.

I modded my MS50G to get the two Left/rigt buttons (besides the main switch) to be operated with an external footswitch. I placed the Zoom into the Loop of my HX stomp, so I now have easy access to up to 6 additional single FX. Works great and some of the FX do really sound well!

@@tsunamisantista6683 open it up and you´ll see the solderings of the mini switches. On each one, one is "signal" and one is "ground". Connect the ground to the ground of an external stereo jack and the other two either to ring or tip. Not too complicated but you´ll obviously will lose any warranty.
