I threw an Epic every day for 4 years from 2016-2020. I was also a baseball pitcher. Let me tell you something. A tuned epic on a 90mph tomahawk throw will barrell roll directly into chain from 200ft away. You can also throw it straight at the sky and it will glide down at target if you have to go up over trees and can't Heiser. You don't throw this disc like a disc. It's the weird side chick that gets the job done in weird ways.
EXACTLY! I played tennis in high school, and was 1st singles all years while maintaining the faster serve on the team. I never “officially” played baseball, but with improper form, out of conditioning, not in shape, and 2 years after I stopped playing sports, I was finally able to have a chance to have a pitch clocked and I was throwing over 80. I always figured I could throw it quick, but with training I could have been pretty good. But throwing a tomahawk with this disc feels exactly like a baseball pitch or a tennis serve. I’ve tried it with a boss, and a destroyer, and it’s just not the same! It’s so hard to find discs that work like this disc the fact that you can tune it, and that you can force a full turn over in the air, and have it just glide to the finish line on open holes, OR you can throw a thumber just to swap the direction of the fade AND that you can just chuck it straight through a gap leaves this disc with SO many options.
I've been playing recreationally for about 10 years now, and I only have gotten 1 ace thus far. My 1 ace came from this disc lmao. A group of 4 let me pass them since I was playing solo, and they could not believe what they saw from the beginning of me bending the disc, watching it tumble then glide in the air, and watching it crash in the chains. I absolutely love this disc!
One thing we learned back in the day when these were still in production, was that you can tune most high speed drivers. The Epic was one of the only ones that would let you re-tune it successfully. Something in the plastic allowed you to do it over and over. I've still got a 150 Flick that I tuned back to full stability, after it got beat too flippy to depend on - and it's an absolute meat hook, but it won't tune back flippy... Also, not sure if it matters (I don't throw overhand), but all the guys I saw getting sick distance with those were throwing thumbers, not tomahawks.
Thumber is the only way I throw that disc. I still can't throw with two fingers in the rim for forehands. I started with just my index finger, like skipping a rock on water, and now can't change it. Lol
Here in Michigan, disc golf gets very very competitive, especially among the zoomers who aren't obsessed with technology, they destroy everyone in the woods. And it's fantastic.
lol that first one you missed out on buying was mine that I sold! to bad you didn't get it. I would have loved to see you throw it! keep up the good content!
I met a guy who bagged a bunch of them, and he mainly threw overhead shots. He swore the yellow ones went the farthest. I still bag one for when I need to escape certain situations.
I got one for $60US brand new in packaging last year. Still haven't thrown it because my local course has too many trees and I have heard it is very brittle.
Yep, one of my furthest throws was with an Aerobie Epic thumber. 500 ft is definitely feasible. I found that a slight headwind helped flip it faster to get it to plain out and soar.
I threw one of those a while back & was taught to throw a Thumber with the Epic. Others should try throwing it too, that thing is fun and so are the other Aerobie toys.
I just recently took this disc out of my bag. I started playing in the Portland, OR area and this is the perfect disc to thumb through heavy brush if your stuck. Now living in Boise, the fairways are more open but accuracy counts for OB's. Still a fun disc to bring out and show people every now and then. They can't believe it's PDGA approved. 😂
I have an epic in the stash. Haven’t picked it up in 15 years. It is so extremely over stable, I could never imagine what to do with it. This video was more fun than I ever had with the epic.
If you are looking to sell it, it’s my favorite disc and I have thrown it so much so fast into so many things over my decade playing, I have been looking for a suitable replacement. If you would possibly consider selling it to someone who would absolutely love the opportunity to use it and would absolutely use it, please let me know!
I had 2 Epics, wish i still had them. Try throwing a thumber instead of a tomahawk, the angle is more natural for overhand throw and you can get more power. Ive thrown 450+ with a thumber. 500 is achievable for you
Dude there are some many great things about this video and your channel in general I hope you have many years on disc golf or just on youtube because your content is amazing If you ever have some time I would love to talk for a while, i’m trying to start a good youtube channel but am struggling with some things, i would appreciate the help Can’t wait to see more content
I love my epic, I found mine on a course one day a long time ago and it had no name. It’s one of the most fun discs in my bag for sure. I rarely ever use it but when I for my friend tells me I need to tee off with that and nothing else 😂
Just got into disc golf a couple weeks ago and I had found this disc in a bush pretty soon after, didn’t realize it was so expensive and interesting lol
It's not expensive. The reason the disc he was looking for was pricey is because it was rare. New Discs range from $7 to $25. You only need a 3 discs to start, a Putter, Mid-Range and Driver.
WTF?!? I have three of these in my garage collecting dust! I haven’t played in years due to shoulder surgeries. I had no idea how much they were worth….
Hey random question - is that your microphone that you have pinned to your hat there? If so, can you tell me what kind of microphone that is? Great audio quality for the capture angle
Buying from eBay does still feel sketchy, mainly because a lot of sellers don't know how or dont care to package shipments properly. However, if you stick to sellers with good ratings, eBay is actually an excellent place to shop. If you end up having issues with your order and they're legitimate, you should be able to get your money back, no problem. I think you will tend to find better quality products than on Amazon and most sellers care about their rating, which is why I prefer eBay now.
I am confused about which way to turn it to help with the overhand. If tuning up helped it turn over faster, why wouldn't you do that for overhand? why bend down?
Right now people carry super OS and US as utility discs but the future of disc golf will have utility discs like this or the interceptor which is built to stick and not bounce. There will be some breakthrough with asymmetric discs and I wonder if the PDGA will ban it if pros start using them
Use to watch big tomahawk guys and thumber guys throw this disc over 600’. Easy In late 2000’s NC. Flips over and over and then flies straight if done correct.
@@jmillydg to do it to something like a destroyer keep bending and go around and around the disc like 15 times and if it's not straight enough go another 10 to 15
I believe the Dzhanibekov effect (tennis racket theorem, intermediate axis theorem) is why this disc flies funky when thrown overhand. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1VPfZ_XzisU.html
every single time i hear someone from america say discgolf, i have to mentally yank myself from hearing biscoff you complain about the silent h, the missing t, but hell what about that l?!
