Very very cool video Frank!! I was in the West Edmonton mall many years ago.... before I got back into vinyl again. It's something to see for sure. Thanks for the site seeing tour of Jasper and Calgary..... two places I'll more than likely never see. Ohhhh well. That record store looks amazing!!! I picked up that RSD Prince Lp but haven't cracked it open yet. I can't wait to hear your review of it. Keep on spinning Frank 👍

I think the reason why we aren’t hearing anything about KK’s Priest is because the album was just…ok… I thought it was decent but it didn’t have longevity in my playlist unfortunately.

Haven't checked distances in Canada on the map recently but this looks like an "Are we there yet?" journey. :) Glad to see you had fun. Those record stores looked a bit overwhelming -- this coming from a guy that misses those full shelves back in the 80s and 90s.

It was a very long journey (1200 to 1400 kms one way - about 12 to 14 hours). When we lived out there, we used to drive back and forth almost every year, so I got used to it. I can probably rate every rest stop, gas station and washroom along the way...

@Mr._Mints
@Mr._Mints 2 года назад
"Donair" must be a Canadian spelling. They're also popular in Germany, and they exist here in the US, but they're called "döner kebab." That's also how the Wikipedia page spells it! 😉 Also, with authority as someone with middle-eastern heritage... 😄 "Gyro" is pronounced "yeero." Like the word "hero," but with a bit of a Y sound at the front.
@Channel33RPM
@Channel33RPM 2 года назад
Interesting... thanks for the donair info. I checked Wikioedia to learn more about this... if you scroll down you will see the history of the Canadian variation. As for gyro, I stopped trying to pronounce it the correct way, and just went with what most folks say here. Thanks for watching!

Hey Frank - Great Video. I love the "travelogue" type of stuff that you do; you should do more of it. At any rate, I finally found a "Tragically Hip" CD in a Goodwill in Phoenix. I found UP TO HERE for $.99 - I have heard their name a lot, since I listen to quite a few Canadian podcasts and RU-vidrs - but while knowing that they exist, I had no idea what they were like. I figured I'd roll the dice for a buck. I did the same thing with a Phish album (HOIST) at a library book sale decades ago, and haven't looked back - really love them to this day. Anyway, it's an okay album, but being new to The Tragically Hip sound, is this one of their better albums, one of their not-so-good ones, or somewhere in the middle? I probably sound like a complete knob, but really needed to hear them so I could see if they were worth pursuing. Finding their stuff is not easy in The States. Take Care and Be Well.

OMG. I know where I'm going if I ever go to Calgary. I know what would happen. Show up in the morning when they open. And they be like, "Damn! This persons been here all day." Only to show up the day after and do it all over again. Which is nothing new to me. I spent 9 hours in our local store a couple days ago. And I didnt even get to go through the records. That was just in cds and DVDs (thousands and thousands, and thousands of them at 50 cents, due to the huge annual sidewalk sale) What was funny is the one guy who worked there said. "When I go for lunch at 1. I bet you'll still be here at 2." Well, I didnt end up paying for all my stuff until almost 8 at night. I got there just after 1030 in the morning. Got a great deal. Maybe because of what I got. 42 of those Readers Digest box sets. Bet the owner was like, oh hells yes! I bet if someone walked in and bought 100 records from the dollar bins (which would be $50 total) That he would be happy with $40 cash. Just to get rid of some of that crap. If it was all Nana Muskouri albums. I bet he would even go lower then that. But yeah. I'm the kinda person who would pretty much want to be trapped in a record store. And if it's a big one. Then I accept the challenge. I see that you shot a clip in front of the Tim Hortons in Jasper. Was that record store still in the basement a few stores down in the so called dollar store? I know it had weird hours.

I was born in Edmonton and want to visit before I die, but there is NO WAY I'm going anywhere near that Mall! I had it on cassette as well. I bought it at Walgreen's Drug Store back when they had a small music section. Cassettes were being phased out because CDs were all the rage. I got it in the Dollar bin. Bought it cause the cover was cool and it had a Floyd cover of a great song. That cassette stayed in my car stereo on repeat for many months. I was addicted to that album. It was like hearing music fir the first time. One of those moments you have when your in high school and music is everything. I still play it regularly 30 something years later. Everybody should own a copy, or steam it.
