📚 Description: I really like Norlin Era limited edition guitars that have fancy headstock overlays. There is one in particular that I've always liked the look of that belongs to an acoustic guitar - Imagine my surprise when I found it on this strange looking 1979 335-S ! Is it a prototype... a factory left overs, employee build or a fake? I guess we will just have to look at all the clues!

I bought one of these in college in 1988. $100 (the headstock had been broken off but well repaired). Owned it for about 25 years (rarely played it) before giving it away. Gibson Dirty Fingers sounded pretty cool, but the odd backward angle of the neck relative to the body was weird - seemed more extreme than a LP or SG.

@@pbague People are willing to pay a premium for the documentation and the research he does on them and of course the guitar from a youtube vid. For example if you buy this guitar you get a good insight into it's history. You typically dont get that on ebay or reverb. And if you want to sell it later...you can always point to this video and that will help resale value a lot. And he is honest too. The vid says its likely a parts guitar. You can be sure that someone on ebay or reverb would at some point try to sell it as a prototype.They might even still do that but this video protects against that too.

When I bought my first very serious expensive professional guitar. The lowest priced Gibson was the Paul. they wanted like 1200 for an SG in 1979. So I took a different path and bought a Hamer Sunburst in 1980 brand new from the back street music store. I think I won. In my older age I have considered buying a les paul just because. It left my bucket list when I bought my first Hamer.I traded that guitar in for a Hamer Standard the following year when he had one in. Still have it and it's worth 5 digits to the right person. It's the most collectible model Hamer hand crafted. I have been considering buying a Les Paul lately. Certainly not on my bucket list. I have never owned a Gibson. I played quite a few. that guitar looks like a Hamer which was obviously part of their target but head stock has no comparison. The Hamer Special and Standards sported Shaler mini tuners and likened a les paul jr but the Sunburst had a carved maple top. They were and still are Les Paul killers but rare as USA hand made production went out a few decades ago and license was sold.

I've owned a Hamer Sunburst Archtop XT Series for a couple of decades now, and that 335-S reminds me of that guitar rather a lot. A long time ago, I had a GK-55 that I gigged with for a few years. I remember not being really knocked out by the sound of its Dirty Fingers pickups, although I did use the coil split sound a lot. (We played a bunch of Prince songs!). You might say my Hamer splits the difference between the 335-S - being a symmetrical double cutaway mahogany body - and the regular semi hollow ES-335 because the Hamer has Alnico magnet equipped humbuckers instead of the Dirty Fingers.

@hkguitar1984
@hkguitar1984 2 года назад
Yeah, fresh stiff speakers. IMHO, I think the only way to get a Marshall to sound like a Marshall is to crank it up to about 3/4 volume. Most people are unable to crank up a 20W amp to full power in a home type setting, especially if you have children and a wife.

About 10 years ago I made one of these guitars out of black walnut with a book-matched black walnut veneer which gave it some visual character. It is possibly one of my worst built guitars but she plays and sounds like a demon. What I really wanted was a "The SG" in walnut and now I have one of those which I bought off you! The walnut is so different on the SG, do you have any idea what type of walnut Gibson used on those guitars?

2:30 With walnut going at 12$-14$ per board feet these days, and that today's crappy walnut, not the old growth that Gibson probably used, Right off the bat, just in lumber cost is enough to make those unique guitars sell at huge primium.

It's strange to look at because its a solid body you'd think DC but the way its setup it's got the look mostly of a 335. And I'm sure the neck kind of throws that all off. It does have somewhat of a different tone. Don't think it's all the dirty fingers pickups but do like the coil split option and the tones are good in that setting too.
