KC and the Sunshine Band’s 1975 album helped to start the disco-era during my junior year of college at NCSU. I had never heard anything like their music, but I loved it instantly. Studio 54 also opened in NYC in 1977 which popularized disco and dance for the night club scene. I got to visit Studio 54 in 1984 when a group of us traveled to the UK as medical exchange students, and we were allowed in the night before we flew out of LaGuardia the next morning. Seeing Studio 54 live made a huge impression on me which still stands out today as one of my favorite experiences.
The film, Saturday Night Fever Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John was also released in 1977 with the soundtrack album in November of that that year. Boogie Shoes, by KC and the Sunshine Band, was included in the soundtrack which later became one of the bestselling albums in music history with over 40-million copies sold internationally.
KC still has the heat at age 73!! His concert was a fantastic experience, and I loved sharing it with my daughter. Thank you, KC!!
