With regard to taking some stuff off the scale until the weight alters, (to avoid giving them free stuff), I did that once with my brass and the boss of the yard completely lost his $hit with me, told me to leave and not come back. Perth, Western Australia must be the worst place in the world to cash in scrap, I'm a woman and have been treated appallingly, abused for seemingly nothing many times. I called out one bloke for removing a big piece of brass pipe from my brass pile (when I had my back turned), weighed the rest of the brass, and after I asked why he had done that, he lost his $hit too, and again told me to leave and not come back. There was another customer there at the time and he was trying to save face, started abusing me, all because I caught him trying to rip me off!! He was the owner too, a sole operator with no staff, not surprising, no-one would last more than an hour working for him. I loathe going to local yards so much that I'm not atm just stockpiling brass and copper. Anyway, your yards seem so relaxed. Ours won't allow any sort of scrapping out on site either. I hate them, they're greedy pigs

With you doing everything you can to earn a few quid here and there and your missus running the Vinted / car boot business, I imagine your kids are going to be proper little entrepreneurs! They're learning from the best!
