I tossed all but 20 shirts, 3 jeans and one dress, 5 pairs of shoes. Chucked all but 5 makeup items. Gave away all jewelry I don’t wear. Ended up with 10 empty bins, got rid of them. Family goal is to get rid of 80% of our possessions. Games and puzzles were put in our building library. We each kept our most prized and not replaceable books and everything else was sold at used book store. All but 5 movie dvds left. Getting rid of excess coats and jackets this weekend. Got rid of so many bags and backpacks. Turned favorite childhood tee shirts into quilt for going off to college.

I started my road to a cleaner house yesterday. I was feeling sad about my house being super cluttered for months, but I just started cleaning and I did get a lot done. It’ll never get cleaned if you don’t start, that’s the hardest step.

I totally agree !!! my problem is once I do get started I want to keep going but I have to stop because of one thing or the other then it’s back to square one again. Now since there’s so much to do and it’s so overwhelming I just look at one or two things a day and remind myself that I didn’t get at least that done
@BigRedNavyChick
@BigRedNavyChick 2 года назад
@@marybethg5505 it is tough getting started and even harder to get back to it if you have to stop for any length of time, that is true. I myself, started with a drawer in my kitchen and went from there. Now anytime I have a bit of energy or free time, I pick a spot that looks really bad or that hasn't been done yet and just work for an hour or until one of the dogs want out/in and I don't feel like a failure for not getting it all done in a day, just one drawer at a time and it will eventually be all done. :D I started my decluttering late last year, then my handsome husband and I both got Covid for New Years and were out for the whole month of January, nothing got done that didn't have to absolutely get done. I got back to it in March and now I've decluttered most of my entire upstairs. The basement is a total mess and where I'll be working throughout August because it'll be too hot to be upstairs then and I'll have no excuse not to be down there cleaning things out. LOL! :D Lord willing, most of my basement will be cleaned out and organized by the end of the year, but if it's not, I'll just keep plugging away, bit by bit until I'm happy with the end result. :D Good luck with yours! :D

There was a time when my son was in the first grade that he had so many toys he didn't use. They took up so much room that he couldn't play with the ones he wanted. I showed him how to get rid of the old ones by telling him that Santa Claus would skip him in favor of another little boy who needed his gifts more. We made it a tradition to give things away to the charity of his choice right before the holidays. He wasn't always fond of the process, but by and large, it worked.

Idk if this is helpful, but we have a small tote to be a “memory bin” for my daughter. She chooses what papers and small items get saved in the bin. When it gets too full, she has to choose what to let go out of it to make room for other memory items. It really makes her pause and think about how “special” that little note or picture is, and she feels in control.

Hello lovely lady! :D I love decluttering, I just started this year and so far I've managed to do two bedrooms, the kitchen cupboards, a bathroom and two closets. The hall closet was my dreaded one and that was the last one I finished a few weeks ago. It still needs something, but I'm not sure what, but it looks way better than when I started and couldn't see any rhyme or reason to any of it. It feels so good to get rid of stuff, either through donation/hand me downs to our adult children and their families or trash. Now all that's left is my basement and under the sink in the bathroom upstairs. I'm really looking forward to having my entire house decluttered and cleaned up for the first time in almost two decades. It makes me feel freer for some reason. :D It's fantastic that you got your children to help you with this, it's always nice to have assistance when it comes to the lugging. Your closet looks amazingly clean and organized now. :D God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

I completely get this. I've learned that I have to just do what I can even on my bad days. I tell myself that when I get up from resting to do something I will throw away something. Or I will find 1 thing to put in the donate box. It is much slower but it is still me moving forward. On my good days, I can do much more because I have been mentally cataloging all the things I know I can trash or donate and so it takes way less time and energy to do. Over time I'm slowly seeing the progress and even have whole sections of my home that feel under control.

I have 4 cords for Christmas, 2cords for outdoor decorations, and I keep with the holiday box. I also have a cord behind my night stand, but this one I keep always plugged in as I often sit in bed and work in my computer, and my daughter will join me and play video games. My biggest problem is the front hallway closet, it holds all my gardening supplies, home canning supplies, coats, crafting supplies ( cricket makers, and all my vinyl) as well as all my homeschooling supplies, I also do lots of church activities, so I have around 15 glue guns, lots of markers, poster boards( I do use all this stuff) … but I does take over the close. We only have two closets in the entire apartment, one in is the laundry room, but we put clothes in that one. The apartment is actually very big, but has no storage space. And I don’t like lots of furniture in each room. I am always having to organize, donate, and more bins and storage boxes just to get to one thing. Most people would consider it organized, as everything has a bin, is labeled, and stocked, but it is overwhelming to me, as so much is in one space.

Finally in march 2021 I finally made a big push to get the rest of the crap out of my house and I’m glad to say it may be July 2022 now my house is completely transformed my 900 square-foot basement only has my prepper pantry three deep freezers a tote storage rack my washer and dryer and a few folding tables downstairs it is immaculately cleaned and people cannot believe how empty and clean a 900 square-foot basement can be I am super excited that I marched upstairs and the day exact same thing to my Apple house anything that we decided to keep but wanted to put away I put into totes and bins and labeled them and put them on the tote racks downstairs in my basement where they’re not only up and off the floor they are organized and they are labeled. I then went into my kitchen and decluttering my kitchen keeping the items that I wanted but wasn’t using very often in totes also on the tote right downstairs and also labeled so now we know where everything is I’ve pretty much turn my basement into a warehouse tote storage with labels on each tote so we know exactly where everything is when we need to go and get it it is been a life changing event

We massively decluttered a couple years ago when we moved but it's finally hit me how much I need stuff gone because we live in a bigger house now and I HATE cleaning!! I would rather be outside doing Anything but cleaning, but I also need my house to be clean and organized so I can deal with life properly. Lol. Been watching Minimal Mom for a few years. Cas the Clutterbug too. I am happy to say that all that skill building, or mind shifting or whatever are finally setting in. I'm letting go of things I never thought I could. Ssooooo freeing!! I can just grab whatever I actually need to go outside and putter or adventure til my heart's content. Yard sales, thrift donations, end of my driveway with free signs, giving things to my friends and family and neighbors, and a few of the big things on my local online bargain finder.....doing it all. I am hoping to get to the point I only have my basement pantry full of food and my under stair storage for seasonal storage.

Great job and inspiration. But, in areas that might loose electricity, the blankets can be useful to cover windows and save heat. They can be used to block off a room to keep the heat in also. (I've lived through about a week one Winter without electricity.)

I have been in a purging mood for the last few months. I have donated 11 large boxes of clothes, knickknacks, toys, books, and bedding! Oh, it feels so good! Also, got rid of all the old cords. 😀

We keep a bin on a shelf with just extension cords.....so they don't end up everywhere. We do use them as there are different kinds. Christmas time....we tend to use all of them

We have a trash bag of cords: printer cables, co-ax cables, phone chargers from ten years ago. Yep.

Hahahaha - I open closets and quickly close them, too! The excess amounts of random stuff overwhelms me and I end up walking away rather than deal with it. Why? Mostly bc I know that my room will look a LOT worse while I pull things out and then the pressure is on to figure out what I should keep, sell (there's an excuse to hold onto things indefinitely!), donate or trash. So thank you for the inspiration to just get on it and deal with it once and for all.

We are finally tackling our stuffed garage from our move nearly 4 years ago. Separating everything into donations, trash and keep. So far it's about 40% donations, 40% trash and 20% keep. Our Goodwill limits donations to 2 bags and only M-W. My how things have changed there! We don't have a lot of other donation options because we live in a rural area now. Great video! Thanks 😊

That's a nice closet. We have a bunch of extra cords, chargers, old (really old) cell phones, remotes. The bf is reluctant to get rid of stuff that may be useful. It comes from being broke for most of his life. I'm slowly bringing him around to the art of letting go. Sometimes I wait for him to be gone for a day or 2 and get stuff out the door before he gets home. He rarely notices. But I am still hearing about the smoothie maker I gave away 12 years ago. 🙄

While in Phase 1 of my declutter, I started to toss my pipe cleaners. But my friend who was helping me yelled NO!. Use them for clean in tough spots on cookware & household ( think edges of sinks, faucets, etc.) So glad I kept them. Sure makes it easier.

Perfect timing. I’m thinking of moving in the spring. Downsizing. I take care of my mom and she’s agreed. My first thing was we need to get rid of “stuff” over the winter. Here’s to keeping my fingers crossed 🤞. 😉😀
