I traded my RTX 3080 for what? AsRock Phantom gaming 6800XT review 

It's now October 2022 and RDNA3 is about to launch. Rather than dealing with scalpers and supply issues for another 1-2yrs I watched this video and decided to go ahead and pick up this card. Thanks for the detailed info my man!

Now I'm even more excited for my ASRock 6900XT to show up from Newegg. Because of the bundles it was only $200 more than the 6800XT.

Enjoyed the video. I'm in Australia and we have a very different landscape here for GPU's. Keeping in mind that with the USD/AUD exchange rate being 1:1.4, and that cards in the US are selling for over MSRP anyway, throw in shipping costs in the current landscape, limited options, and demand well outstripping supply which keeps margins up. We're looking at $1800 - $2500 for an RX 6800 XT, and up to $3500 for an RX 6900 XT. So the ASROCK RX 6900 XT Phantom Gaming OC is selling here for $2199 AUD - I have no idea why its so cheap because I cant find a bad review of it. I had to grab it. It looks like an absolute beast! Can't wait to test 'er out.

I bought this card about 3 months ago for my new Ryzen 9 7900x build as prices finally fell below $500. As I'm only a casual gamer, this was my upper budget limit. Speaking as a long time nVidia user, I'm more than happy with this card.

Just bought an Asrock RX 6800 Phantom (for the price advantage) and I'm very happy to hear that the company isn't selling sub-par cooler designs. Crazy how the current market mirrors the reputation of brands. Anyway, thank you for this video!

Is the total power consumption for the test bench as a whole or just the GPU? I'm looking for the maximum power draw of the GPU during the most difficult work load.

Picked up a used ASRock Phantom Gaming 6800XT for $360USD, very happy with the performance and it still has 2 years warranty. The price per FPS at 1440p is insane, great value card

In the AMD software with power at the max (+15% of normal) I can only get about 315W at the most with the same card. How do you get 377W average?

Just wanted to give you some props made my final decision based on your video. I ended up pulling buying this from newegg today, couldn't beat the $535 price (520 if you sub the mail in rebate). I'm aware of all of the new GPU talk but I'm not FPS gaming like that anymore. For the price it was hard to pass up and it seems like a lot of these cards are disappearing in this price range even with new tech/post merge market.

Damn.. I was Hell Bent on grabbing the Red Devil, and your saying grab the ASRock. Bold statement.. but a very interesting take. !!!

Overall I think the card seems to be great. Asrock while not my favorite brand isn't a bad choice for a card. As long as the card can fit the theme of a build I don't mind recommending cards from zotac or asrock. From what I can tell the main issues with zotac were with their 900 series cards. Multiple friends of mine have 16/20 series zotac cards that work great. I appreciate your willingness to do things like trade rare cards for other ones to get out more reviews.

I have the exactly the same card and i am very happy with it. thermals are not bad, card can get a bit too hot when i tested it on 4k resolution gaming but it gets the job done. 1440 p is a sweet spot and the card does a very nice job on 1440 p 144hz monitors. Frames are much more consistent than nvidia rtx 3080. Asrock and AMD blew my mind.

Was waiting for RDNA3 but just picked one of these up on Newegg sale for ~450 after discount code and MIR… don’t really see that value being beat for awhile

This is only available right now vs nvidea cards for 1089 but the power consumption and colorway of the card are off putting for me. I've always had nvidea cards and never really had any issues with them but all I hear is amd cards have driver issues so that makes me worried. No returns on the card from new egg either.

Awesome video! Just the one I needed. I pulled the trigger on building a PC yesterday. I knew the 6800 xts were good, but the AIB cards are always a mixed bag in my experience. This one was the only one available period. I'm glad I picked a good one! After watching the video I'm a bit sad about the thermals but I'll just have to add another case fan or tweak the fan control. Also, I really hope the 16 gigs of RAM in the benchmark was 16 gigs of VRAM... Who pairs 16 gigs of RAM with a 6800 xt and a 5900x?... 😁

hello, I wanted to ask you a question regarding the zotac 3070 ti trinity against this video card, which do you recommend the 6800xt oc phantom gaming or the zotac 3070 ti?

Pulled the rigger on this card a few minutes ago (12 Nov 22). With tax and rebates (yeah, we all hate those) it will end up priced at a a tick under $540 US. It will pair with a 13700K and will be my daily driver system until 4090 prices stabilize, which could be a long time indeed. My current daily driver is a 6850K / 1080Ti, so it'll be quite an upgrade.

Interesting review. I was wondering what reviews were up on this card as it is now $549 at Newegg. Just a tiny bit slower than a 3080 at 4k, yet 5 models of 3080 outselling this. Brand recognition, kind of like how Notre Dame is always ranked to start the CFB season and gets a good bowl game despite not winning a major bowl game since Netscape Navigator was more widely used than MS Explorer.

Max FPS is not that important though, the one procent is more telling if the card is stuttering in its performance.

Hi man, i just bought this graphics card (i couldnt wait for the new gen and i found a really good deal), i traded my asus rog strix 3070 for this rx 6800xt. I think that in you benchmarks the power consumption is wrong, i know there was an issue with the drivers in that time, that was causing to throw bad readings. I can confirm this, because my card is topping at 272w in furmark (stock), and with de power limit raised to +15, it tops at around 313w. At first (remebering your video because there's not many reviews of this especific card) i was scared, and thought that my card was malfunctioning, but investigating a little i came to the conclussion that my power consumption is the correct one, and totally normal. But anyway, in enjoyed your video and it was helpful, so keep it up! cheers

Got this despite reading people on sites like Reddit saying bad things about the thermal and noise and they were... right. I have the P500a, NZXT Kraken plus fans on top and I was getting up to 90 degrees celcius while gaming. I tore this card apart like many people did and lo and behold, the thermal paste wasn't even applied properly and it was all crusty too. Repasted it and thermals got a lot better. Maxed out at 70-75 degress now on stock. The card was like 120 dollars cheaper than Sapphire's but in the end it was still an Asrock. I would've gotten the Sapphire card instead if I knew. In the end, decided to sell this card to my cousin at a 200 dollars loss and got the 4080 instead 🤣

at my microcenter this card is going for the same price as 3070 and 3070 ti on amazon (cheaper than microcenter), definitely considering the 6800 xt for my first build, especially since i already have a mac for productivity and this will be a dedicated gaming machine. why pay more for less fps

I had a really negative experience buying the RX6800 version of this card. Just a warning to all the more recent comments I am seeing. ASRock had really terrible customer service from day 1. First, from day 1 I wasn't able to match the card in any RGB software, not even ASRock's own software. It remained a big ugly rainbow brick for it's entire life because the support rep at ASRock wasn't able to help. Also, it was 2020 and the GPU market was so terrible I didn't want to RMA a card for RGB because I might never get it back. It seemed to work for games, performance wise. But less than a year later, I started getting choppy performance in games, like something was thermal throttling every 5-10 seconds. Took a lot of troubleshooting to figure out it was the GPU. ASRock made me pay for the RMA, which was pricey, this card is big and heavy. Once it got there, they refused to honor the warranty because I had removed a tiny flimsy sticker that was precariously close to the PCIe slot and dangling. Once I told them that was ridiculous, they did not reply. Several weeks later I had to email them again to get a response on when I could at least expect my broken card back. They said they escalated it. Ok good but you should have told me. Eventually I had to ask again for news, after a few weeks. They "sent me a replacement card". I was thinking maybe this turned into a win in the end. The RX6800 wasn't on the market anymore, so it appeared they had sent me a RX6800XT instead, slight upgrade. Problem is, it had visible damage on it. Nothing dramatic, just some bent cooler fins here and there, but the IO brakect was bent a lot, almost looked like someone was in a hurry to remove it but had stripped the screw and lost patience. Either way, the card booted, so I decided to end this ASRock saga here and just vow to never purchase their products again.... until... weeks later I get an email back from ASRock. Apparently the RX6800XT was "accidental" and they were asking me to pay 60$ to cover the difference in value. For a clearly refurbished card. When I called them out for asking me to pay for a refurbished card that was in worse physical condition than the card I gave them, they simply went silent again. Yup.... you guys better stay away from ASRock. At the prices you pay for these cards nowadays, it's best not to get involved with a company that has this level of customer service. It's important to know that if you get bad luck, the manufacturer will honor the warranty without trying to scam you, and will communicate details.
