When I was in Havana last month, the hostess from my hostel had to run out and wait in line to buy chicken. That day, it was available.... In Cuba, people buy what they can find, not what they want to buy.

The Spanish colonial architecture is beautiful, but they have nothing else , it’s very sad . The Cuban government caused this all . By nationalizing all property after the revolution and millions left for years after. There was a huge brain drain after the revolution also. There are more Cubans living now in the United States than in Cuba. And the blockade will never be lifted as a result. The Cuban government has the change, they have to give all the stolen property back to their owners and their descendants. However they can’t open or change , they know that . An immovable regime like them has learned the lesson of East Germany , they know if they open up just a crack the entire regime would fall within months. The entire government is propped up by lies.

I love this , only 3 minutes in. Water? Just knock on any door and ask, they will fill it from the tap, tap water safe in Cuba. The Inter City Viazul bus network will make the journey you needed in about 2 hours and during the day, not overnight on a train. But that of course would not make an interesting video. Freight on the railways takes priority during the daytime in Cuba, long distance passenger runs are dirt cheap but are often overnight runs that take forever; again, shunted over to make way for freight trains.

The situation is particularly bleak in Havana. I was there last month, and most people are hanging on by their fingernails with the decline of tourism. Prices are increasing, and wages don't come close to covering the cost of living there. It's a real shame because the country has so much potential, and the Cuban people don't deserve such hardship.
