If you want to have the messiest project file known to man... go for it. The workflow sucks. (for me, not dissing it for other people who like that type of workflow)
Lol, and also dragging triggered samples into the audio channels as if it did something was equally a dimension shift. However, I do remember doing all the same shit and not understanding the two modes. I can be a slow learner for a smart guy because I over analyze every "why". Good times back then, but glad they're over 🤣🤣
I had the exact opposite experience, after like, 30 minutes (and a bit of frustration with the piano roll, which I've gotten used to thankfully), I was like, Ableton is SOO much easier to use... sorry that you had a bad experience at the start tho XD
@@andrewthiselton5118 Right side of screen changes the session/arrangement views, and allows you to make a MIDI or an Audio Track by rightclicking. Audio Tracks only accept audio, not .adg instrument plugins (Nate was putting an .adg into an audio channel, which pumps out a audio->midi conversion).

@@andrewthiselton5118 the main problem is that he was loading in midi instruments, thinking it was audio and dragging audio intl midi tracks, so ableton wants to convert that audio in midi
@@andrewthiselton5118 In Ableton, the mixer and playlist are one and the same thing and there are strictly two types of distinct tracks: audio OR midi. This will save you hours when you come from FL.
I was a rabid FL studio user. It was real easy to get into and I learned a lot about producing. Then I decided to get myself a MIDI controller which came with Ableton. I tried Ableton with the controller and it was hell. I stuck with FL for a few more weeks then went back to Ableton just to try it again after getting my first audio interface. I hooked up my guitar, persevered, played a little with looping and audio effects and MIDI mapping and now I'm addicted. The reason why it's called "Ableton LIVE" is because it's for live performance. I think arranging songs is much better with FL. But when it comes to just going crazy fun performing with MIDI controllers (I have lots now) and live instruments, Ableton is king.
I want to help Nate so bad. Seeing him struggle to understand the midi devices and the difference between audio tracks and midi tracks actively frustrates me but at the same time, I understand that he hasn't used a single other DAW in his entire life, and my frustration turns into sympathy. Nate, should you read this, the Ableton learning curve is pure hell, but give it like a week or so and you'll be pumping out hits
Where does Logic Pro X fall in all of this; regardless of its capability or workflow, is it easier or harder to user than FL or Ableton. Could you say FL < Logic < Ableton < Pro Tools < actual nature or something?

Are other DAWs really much easier than ableton? I found ableton to be pretty easy to learn and decently intuitive. The only other DAW I've used is LMMS tho, which was trash and really difficult and unintuitive to use for me.
Ehhh. I'm not sure about the learning curve for fl, but the biggest pain with ableton is the two views imo. Midi and audio channels are pretty self explanatory, and most everything else isn't too hard to comprehend. Some of the shit in fl baffles me. Seems a tad convoluted, but again I haven't used it.
Once you learn the basics with ableton though, realising your ideas can be so quick. Get your main sounds down in a few hours, then you can arrange and automate in a few more it's mad. Does fl have record quantization and midi overdub?
@@lostecho4394 I didn't have a huge issue with it (sans the pains of it being the first and only DAW I've used), though I think having a launchpad helped in the learning process. Makes stuff in session view a bit easier to understand starting out.

no fl studio is NOTHING like any other DAW. i flick from cubase and ableton depending on what im working on and its pretty nice transition. but FL studio is like some dumb ass workstation for mongs who have no idea what the inside of an actual recording studio looks like
@@obeseduck3861 so what happens if somehow you miraculously grow a listening audience and an artist approaches you with a pro tools/logic/Cubase project for you to either remix or mix/master and you sit there staring at the DAW scratching your head because for some fucked up reason you decided to learn FL studio. I wish you the best of luck with your music career my friend but with an attitude like that I can assure you it’s going nowhere. Give up while you can and save yourself the embarrassment
@@obeseduck3861 you learn any DAW and you will be able to figure out the others. Unless you learn FL studio because it’s literally a daw designed for children. It just makes no sense to hinder yourself as a aspiring producer by learning a software that has no correlation to analog equipment.
Just get Logic Pro or FL Studio. It’s not worth the pain of trying to learn unless you have someone who’s already drunk the kool-aid around to teach you.

Since FL was created in Belgium I assume it's because of the AZERTY keyboard (similar to the german QWERTZ) which has a convenient "Z" placement, desirable for such a often used function
though a lot of people like working with drums in audio clips, i find it's easier to assemble drums in the Ableton Drumrack, and then just making MIDI sequences. btw, i think you figured this out by now, but Ableton separates MIDI tracks from Audio tracks, so you have to be mindful of where you drag clips. Ableton should automatically Warp samples to the BPM, but if you have the auto-warp off, then just go into the sample and turn it on and adjust the markers inside of the clip if it still doesn't seem right to you. you can sidechain either by copy pasting volume automation lines, or setup a ghost note to trigger a compressor that's set to Sidechain mode. anyways, i love your stuff, hope you figure out Ableton more during your trial.

@@_luni_2834 I don't think it necessarily has a better workflow. It just depends on what works for you. DAWs are pretty much all the same, except for minor differences.
I was fortunate enough that my college offered an 8 week class on music technology and it in both ableton and pro tools (more so ableton). The first lesson in the program was on making a drum track, I figured the concept for the rest of the instruments must be similar and picked up how ableton works pretty quickly. That said, I have a launchpad I can use with the software, which definitely helps in learning how the live view works. I actually prefer working in live over the arrangement view, and only really use arrangement view when I’m ready to record all the pieces. I’m sure there’s a better way to record it, but overall, as someone new to composing and producing music, it was really easy to figure out with my professor guiding the class in the tutorial process. I was so used to ableton that I prefer it over pro tools. That and pro tools doesn’t play nice with my pc lol. It took a lot of set up to get it to work initially. Haven’t used FL yet. I might, but really, I’m happy with ableton and haven’t run into many issues or anywhere close to enough to switch.
When I first started producing, I bought Ableton. Luckily I only the lite version because I used it for about a week and immediately bought FL Studio. I haven’t looked back since.
Funny enough for me, over three years before it became my main DAW in September of last year, I downloaded Ableton onto my laptop when I was still a huge FL Studio user. This was in late 2018. Didn't touch Ableton at all, as it has quite the learning curve to it, and it was the 3 month demo. To be fair, I was using the FL Studio demo, but FL's demo does not have a time limit, albeit without the ability to save your projects. Also I didn't have any money at the time due to my age. When I got more money, I felt it was time for a DAW change, but not Ableton yet. I ended up switching to Logic from FL Studio in January 2022, after a four year run of FL from December 2017 to that point.
Try Waveform. It has a free version, is super underrated, and much much easier to understand than most DAWs, I as an FL user had few problems understanding it and it's worth checking out. Also it's got an unlimited free version that's only missing stock plugins and some misc stuff like adjustable pannels. So you have no excuse not to do it... I'm watching...
I switched from FL to Ableton and this was pretty much my experience. Had to just fuck around and make shitty songs until I felt comfortable with the controls

This reminds me of when I first tried Ableton Live. Absolutely love it now! Also, the "Y" key location is swapped with the "Z" key on German keyboards, and Ableton are a German company!
so I need an update man, did you ever figure out the difference between a audio track and a midi track in ableton, and how to use a compressor for sidechain?

@@haskamoosic9371 Standard is all you need. it comes with all the core features. Suite is more or less for people who don't have 3rd party synths and want the ones built by Ableton. As someone who used FL for about 5 years before switching to Ableton, I can honestly say I understand the frustration of learning a new workflow but it really is worth making the switch. Ableton has a ton of workflow improvements over FL and the way it deals with samples (or just audio in general) is a complete game-changer. it only takes about a week to learn and the benefits Ableton offers are super worth the time.
The good thing about that though is you would have become accustomed to creating midi clips for instruments to build your song with instead of manually copy pasting individual audio samples to create a song.
