It has been brought to my attention that Adele has a son not a daughter. This is Research-Keltie’s fault not mine. She clearly abused her use of google and didn’t fact check. Me and my team (aka stuff-direwolf) are currently discussing a proper penalty for this misconduct. We’ve decided between either 50 burpees or burning at the stake, there seemed like no other option.

I also posted a video doing the sirtfood diet a couple days and I so appreciate that on your larger platform you were able to talk about this topic and shed light on it as it was so disheartening the way Adele was being talked about. I hope you continue to be such a positive impact on others ❤️

I'm assuming it's because of my comment. My general lazy but safe tip is to generalise so less mistakes happen. Instead of saying Adele did it for her son i'd go with she did it for her child. All my essays in school about history had vague times, so instead of coloumbus discovered america in x year i just put 15th century which technically is correct :D

Adele put years of effort into her body. Not only in losing weight she quit smoking and drinking too. As her personal trainer said, “she didn’t lose weight for YOU, she did it for her son and for herself.” I’ll applaud Adele on breaking her previous habits that took years. It’s so much effort she had to be giving everyday.

When I recently lost weight and saw a friend, who is a nurse, for the first time in months - she said, “you look great, but this weight loss was intentional?... you’re not sick or unhealthy, right?” And that comment resonated with me because you never know what someone else is going through. When I explained I just started learning more about nutrition and working out more, she was my biggest cheerleader.

Hey Keltie! I’m 18, and have been overweight my whole life. My mom was a serial yo-yo dieter when I was growing up; as my sole parent, I followed her example. Your channel is possibly the most positive place on the internet. You have inspired me to not just do what anyone else in my household is doing, and encouraged me to make healthier, sustainable habits for myself. I have lost 35 pounds so far with intuitive eating, and begun helping my mother to re-build her relationship with food as well. As someone who has been on multiple diets like the Sirtfood diet, I really appreciate your emphasis on sustainable lifestyle habits rather than harsh diets. Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s changing lives.

I think a brief window of accelerated weight loss at the start is super motivating. I lost ~5kg in about 3 weeks and have then taken nearly a year to lose the next 18kg but have embedded much better lifestyle habits including a good exercise and nutrition regime. Without some quick wins, I don’t think I would have stuck with it as long as I have and now it’s all habit and part of my life. Only 15kg to go... maybe another 18 months!
@hanakenney1337
@hanakenney1337 4 года назад
Agree with this! Nothing wrong with a quick start in my opinion, a true yo yo diet would be doing the juice to try to drop a lot of weight quick and then go back to your regular then do it again. I 100% need the quick win as well, a slow start really sucks for motivation 😂and amazing job on your weight loss 👏👏

Weight lost just requires caloric deficit and not cutting out types of food! It’s great
@imeldam1183
@imeldam1183 4 года назад
@Alexis. I disagree. Weight loss is not only about the amount of calories consumed, but the types of food! It has been scientifically proven that certain types of foods are related to weight gain/loss. Sweet soda drinks are associated with weight gain (quick sugar surge, insulin release), the consumption of nuts keeps weight down, even though nuts have very high fat contents. (healthy fatty acids, slow energy release).
@Atheria444
@Atheria444 4 года назад
@@imeldam1183 Using my own body as a laboratory, I am seeing that calories are not all the same. I can eat more calories on a LCHF vegan diet vs. a HCLF vegan diet. That is just the truth. I will say that my blood sugar does not spike higher when I mix lots of carbs with lots of fats, but it stays high longer. My fasting blood sugar is the lowest it's been in a long time the past couple of days since I've returned to a "controlled carb" (under 100 grams) high fat, higher protein, vegan diet. Super high carb vegan with no fat spikes my blood sugar BAD and I gain weight on 1000-1200 calories!

@@Aripoma read the book because this diet isnt about cal restriction aside from the 1 week kickstart. Phase 2 and maintanence you are meant to eat as much as you want to satiety ..also calorie deficit isnt something vast majority of people can stick to for their whole lives. The weight comes right back if youre eating whatever you want after youre done trying to starve the weight off. The people who keep a trim weight for their lives are either very particular about the types foods they allow or dont allow into their bodies, very very active, or lottery genetics

12 years ago I was my heaviest weight ever, I had been married for 4 years and was in love and happy...until I noticed my weight affecting my mood and my lifestyle...I started with a group "dance aerobic" class and fell in love with it. I did 3 days a week then 4 and then 5. Over the course of 3 years I lost 27 pounds and started to feel so much better. THEN I changed my diet, it was slow and gradual, and now I love working out and I love eating healthy, but still eat what I want when I want it, just small amounts and I workout regularly 5 days a week, now since quarantine usually 6 days....I just think you have to take all of this change in small bits....and slowly. Patience is key as well as consistency...do what you know you can commit to. xoxox

The problem is commenting about her weight, period. As far as I know, she didn't ask for people's opinion on her body. We don't know what's in her head, we don't know how or why she lost the weight. And it's none of our business, unless she explicitly wants our opinion. We should NEVER assume that weight loss always means more health and weight gain means less health. You just can't tell just by looking at someone's weight. You just can't. So let's all stop commenting on people's body, let's stop assuming things about people and instead focus on actions, talents and skills.

This is facts! Weight is not a one size fits all, it’s different for everyone. There are so many things that influence weight: ED, autoimmune diseases, outside stressors, mental health, thyroid health and more. While someone could have lost weight for positive reasons such as coping mechanism or overall health. They could be developing ED or dealing with something difficult in their life. Same is for weight gain. Someone could have gained weight because they are finally eating enough food, recovering from an ED, or different illnesses. Weight loss and the human body isn’t so simple, dont generalize, you probably don’t know the whole story😙✌🏻

Yes!! Especially loved your perspective on weight at the end! Coming from experience I lost about 20 lbs after going through a big breakup. I wasn’t overweight I was just average to begin with but got too skinny in the process. I got a lot of praise for that when in reality I was so anxious and depressed that I didn’t have an appetite...I mean can’t say I didn’t appreciate the kind words but I was NOTTTTTT healthy and while friends and family had good intentions in praising the weight loss it wasn’t good for me. Then when I started feeling better and getting back to myself and gaining some of the weight back obviously I didn’t get any praise for that...when in reality when I gained some weight back it was because I was happy and my appetite came back. Definitely agree with what you’re saying about weight not necessarily being an indication of health!

Keltie, I so appreciate you posting on this topic. I gained weight very rapidly because of a medical problem that doctors can't help me with.... I believe it to be a blocked bile duct. This has severely affected my digestion and my body can't process food normally. Friends and family saw rapid weight gain and made lots of assumptions without even considering that a real medical problem caused weight gain. People judge me for being fat because it's easy to see. They say, "it's simply calories in, calories out." So frustrating, and NOT ALWAYS TRUE. Anyway, thank you for bringing to light that there are many reasons people can be over or under weight.

I would eat lots of food, but the main change was eating low GI foods instead of high GI, in addition to reducing my meat consumption. I was probably too skinny at that point but realized that was due to lack of muscle so I've been more lenient with my diet now and lifting weights and am at a healthy 150 now. Personally, I think being healthy is important but how you feel is more important than how you look.

Don’t do 1000 calories diets!! I unfortunately did this because I thought it was the best way to lose all my fat but the opposite happened. After a while of doing this serve calorie deficit I started to gain weight, my body was in starvation mood, very unhealthy. I felt sleepy all the time, my hair started to thin and fall out, my nails were not growing, and my once healthy skin started to break out in dry rashes, I am still trying to heal my skin form this experience. I am with Keltie on this, there are so many other and better ways to keep yourself healthy and doing a serve caloric deficit is not really one of them. Please be careful if you do anything like this!

However when you go under 1200 calories and youre not obese/need immediate action you’ll experience a lot of nutrient deficiencies, which explains those bad symptoms, and its more deep than just supplementing them back either. I hope you feel healthier at a higher intake and that you were successful in some kind of weight loss if it was important to you.

My issue with the convo around Adele's (or anyone else's) body is because it quickly turned into a convo about "glowing up" which has the connotation that she is BETTER now because she weighs less. I think it's disheartening to fat people that no matter how talented they are, the world sees them as failed skinny people. I'm sure that's not most people's intentions when they make these comments. I think it's just celebrating a thing about someone that isn't a talent or personality trait. It's just a THING. I agree that we should celebrate health, but there are a number of ways someone can be healthy and in every case weight loss =/= health. I'm going to expose myself here and just say... I am overweight and I have been since puberty. I have PCOS. I eat really well and take medications to help with my insulin resistance. I will probably never be what the mainstream would call "healthy-looking", but I am NOT unhealthy, and my team of doctors would agree. This is why I think conflating health and thinness isn't useful. Anyway, this was a rather long comment just to explain how I've been feeling about some of the commentary around this topic. I feel really weird that I'm even participating in it because Adele hasn't actually come out and discussed it publicly and it does feel really... wrong in a way? to be talking about someone's body when they themselves haven't started a convo on it.

Being overweight is unhealthy. Point blank. You can be average weight but be unhealthy. But being either under or overweight will always be unhealthy, regardless of your lifestyle etc. The reason the media has jumped on the phrase “glow up” to describe Adele’s weight loss is because she is healthier than before! You can’t say that you can be overweight and healthy, regardless of how it makes people feel, we have to live in reality.
@farah_lynn

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I believe she looks a little better after losing weight, but that says nothing about who she is as a person or how kind she is etc. She was beautiful before and is now too, most importantly she is focusing on her health. You do not have to be skinny to be healthy, but being extremely overweight or obese will never be good for your health. Even if that hurts peoples feelings they have to face the facts
@elmy026
@elmy026 4 года назад
@@AmnaAziz1999 I appreciate your point of view, but truly... like other people's bodies are none of our business. I was talking about how how the commentary around her body is very fatphobic, and how it's really appropriate to place so much value aka a "glow up" on losing weight and being skinny. You proved my point. After reading my story that I outlined in my comment, you called me unhealthy!! ("You can't say that you can be overweight and healthy"). You don't know me and you don't know her, and you're probably not a doctor so... please reconsider the angle you're coming at this.
@mridul7639

Thankyou for making this comment. It was so puzzling to see the two extreme opposite opinions on this. Why can't people see that the main issue was that it became the most important thing about her for people, more important and celebrated than her other achievements. Your weight does not define your worth, please stop instilling this into young people's brains. I'm glad for anyone who works on their health and achieves their goals. This society gives way too much importance to how someone looks and if they fit into this box and that's that. It's a lie that all these people care about her health. I gained some weight a few years back, but I was in good health, (which I then shed) and people treated me horribly. Years later I got health issue due to a work injury and I am an average weight now but as long as I don't look fat people don't mind. Health does not look the same for everyone. And body positivity definitely has an importance because so many people struggle with their self esteem, self love and how they look. And body positivity does not mean being fat and being unhealthy, it means that you love and accept yourself and treat yourself well and work on your health.
@AmnaAziz1999
@AmnaAziz1999 4 года назад
Eileen Yeah, you’re right it’s none of our business. And it’s not my business whether you specifically are healthy or not, that’s your responsibility. Of course we shouldn’t value people more/less depending on their weight and other aspects of their appearance. But my point is, we need to address reality and using words like “fatphobic” just hides problems and are harmful in their own way. Mental health is so important and a positive and confident self-image helps us to stay healthy... when we love ourselves, we care for our bodies. I didn’t mean to come across as rude in my first comment but I stand by the fact that we shouldn’t normalise and accept being overweight, no matter how much it might hurt peoples feelings. There’s needs to be a better way to discuss these things, without harming people’s mental health in the process.

I want to thank you for talking about all of this. I’ve always been overweight and it’s been a constant struggle. But I’m still working hard at it. However, I’ve been in a mental low point and I haven’t been eating anything at all most days. Some days I’ll eat part of meal. I’ve been on a low so long now that I’ve lost quite a lot of weight. People keep congratulating me. Saying how great I look. If they only knew. But it does create an unhealthy relationship with eating. I know the second I start feeling better and start eating, I’ll gain it all back. But you’re right. Weight is the only indicator others can see. Idk why I posted this really. Just thank you.

Such a great perspective on weight loss because it’s not always healthy to be “skinny” in a sense because of it’s not the only thing that makes a person healthy. Love this because I eat healthier than I had been but I’m still “overweight” and still having issues losing weight but I would be upset someone saying I looked better before but I’m so glad that mentally I would okay afterwards. I feel like that makes it more bearable to hear things that people really shouldn’t say to another. Especially growing up everyone has had different environments and react different to everything.

Key words: “you should celebrate health”. That means in any shape or form. Like I’m over 200lbs and I feel the most healthy. I’m working out eating right and I started running to get my endurance up. Hell im even learning how to do push-ups and when I get there I’m gonna celebrate... people need to understand that health can be shown is so many different ways. Adele has just shown her health with weight loss. Get off her damn back.

thanks for the vid Keltie, wonderful as always. i think it’s hard because people are associating “glow ups” with weight loss, perpetuating the idea that you have to be thinner to be accepted. whether we mean to or not, by commenting these things they can actually end up being more harmful than good. i know adele went through a long process to get to where she is & she definitely put in the work- she looks amazing. but looks should not & do not define our value. she’s always been an amazing singer, & person for that matter. it’s getting tiresome to constantly be commenting as a society on someone’s body.

I can only say what I know from my own experience. I have been obese since early childhood. From my starting weight to my goal weight is roughly 120lbs. I have only tried to loose weight once, and it's happening, I'm already 68lbs down and am planning on reaching my goal somewhere early next year. But here's the thing. I'm doing it by counting calories. Intuitive eating has gotten me to the point of obesity. I never felt guilty for the foods I ate (and I still dont), I never considered that feeding my hunger addiction with the things it wanted was only making it worse for me. Foods these days are designed in laboratories to taste as good as possible, to trick your brain into wanting more and more, and as a consequence, the foods I intuitively want, are very calorie dense and unhealthy, this is not a world where for the past obese me, intuitive eating was any kind of a solution. I am hopeful to develop intuitive eating skills as I learn more about nutrition and what my body need as opposed to wants, but this would not have been the right path for me at the beginning of my weight loss journey. I know that my path is not the right path for everyone, but I would like it to be acknowledged by proponents of intuitive eating, that that path is not the right one for everyone either. P.s. I am not a fan of crazy restrictive dieting either as I do believe sustainability is key. This for me means that I stay to a calorie limit that allows me to loose weight, but doesnt leave me starving either (but I still definitely have to track that)
@korichamberlain
@korichamberlain 2 года назад
I think any path that doesn’t result in negative obsessive thoughts is the right place to start, but it seems like learning intuitive eating (and having a solid sense of nutrition and healthy things you reach for automatically) is whats required for maintenance. Developing that so you’re prepared when you reach your goal will be a greart thing to work on.

On fast vs. slow weight loss: I’m so glad you brought this up! Obesity and excess body weight are undoubtedly linked to higher rates of certain diseases and illnesses. However reversing obesity is complicated and difficult. People who need to lose weight face mental, hormonal and metabolic challenges that often go unaddressed. When people believe that the weight and fat is the biggest problem then they are more likely to believe that its okay to do whatever it takes to reach their goal weight. Severe calorie restriction, labeling foods as good and bad, doing “cleanses” and “detoxes” are common practice among people who want to lose weight, but can be physically and mentally harmful. Unfortunately, we praise the result more than the process. Generally, those who are overweight or obese have an unhealthy relationship with food on some level, but instead of learning how to eat a balanced diet and understand our body’s needs we introduce strict rules and restrictions only to feel guilt and shame when we can’t stick with them. Small and sustainable changes are far more beneficial in the long run than dropping some pounds quickly (usually when it’s done this way they don’t stay dropped anyway). I’ve lost about 40lbs in the past 3 years, but I am by far most proud of the lifestyle changes I’ve been able to make. I cook at home more, eat more veggies, drink more water. I’m still about 20lbs overweight but that’s okay because I know that number on the scale is not the most important indicator of health and that if I pretend like it is then I’m going to suffer mentally. Losing weight is absolutely an accomplishment but let’s not forget to encourage being healthy too.

I lost 50 pounds, and yes I do look "better" and I feel happier and more confident in my body, but I did it so I could be healthier. I think the most positive part of trying to be healthier for yourself is that you learn so much about your body and your mind.

I’m only 13, and I lost 30 pounds. Then I was pretty healthy. But then I began to keep onto not eating all that my body needed and my stomach shrunk. I would get full really quickly and not feel hungry. So I barely ate. But I came with terms to myself because I kept losing weight... 1 pound a day. Which isn’t healthy AT ALL. I realized that I needed to eat more, and if I still needed to lose weight, if I’d be healthy, my body would do it on its own. I forced myself to eat more... and I’m so glad I realized my problem before it was too late. My stomach is normal again... and I can give a lot of thanks to you Keltie for promoting a healthy lifestyle.

I was going to comment something revolving the idea that what was the point of doing the video if you didn't follow it? (I clicked on this video because RU-vid recommended me and I wanted to see how much weight you lost). Then, you started to talk about the deeper aspects to it and I said to myself "great another RU-vidr that is going to talk about self love and nutrition." I swear that I feel like this is the first time that I truly connect with the message of these types of videos. Clearly everyone has their own perspective and I may have not connected with everything you said, but the way you talked about ""if there is something you dont like about yourself, stopping you from enjoying life in anyway, you should change it” Really got me. So, thank you very much bc I realized that I really should focus on my mental health. You have no idea how those words and the way you build up to them impacted me. I truly feel like I have gained a new perspective on life and a different way to live up to that.

People love to give their opinions and criticize others. I had a heart attack 4 months ago. 3 stents. While on the operating table, I stopped smoking after 33 years and went on a fitness plan quest. 2 months after my heart attack I dropped 20 lbs by eating healthy. Now 4 months after my heart attack, I work out with a personal trainer 4x week and run 2 miles 4x a week. I'm down another 20lbs. And boy did people have opinions about me being unhealthy!!!! Was I supposed to die and not make changes? Wow!. I feel the best I have ever felt. I can run them all in a circle. I am 49. I chose to live. So you go Adele!!! Do you, be accountable to you! I’ve been struggling with my weight for the last couple of years and I have tried extreme diets which have worked in the past (revenge body when I was in my early 20s, I now realize was more bordering on body dismorphia as I was already a UK size 8) but only alongside an excessive exercise routine. I now have a much healthier approach and since the start of COVID quarantine I’ve actually lost 7lbs just by building healthy habits, not by major restrictions (I have had McDonald’s nuggets two days this week 🙈). If this worked for her then great but having experience in both types of dieting I honestly feel so much more satisfied with my results this way (I do miss the speed of weight loss I experienced in the last though 😭🤣)

You are much better off losing slowly. I used to lose 30-40 lbs in 4 months in my early 20s then I couldn’t lose weight at all in my 30’s. Finally I found lifestyle changes that worked for me and after 5 years of trying finally lost the last 20lbs I cycled each year then immediately got pregnant with my second. It’s taking me over a year but I’m slowly getting back there. It will take me two years instead of a year but times going to go either way.

I think different people can benefit from different approaches at different times in their lives. I did an elimination diet before I had kids and was extremely limited for 6 weeks which helped me transitioning into 2 years of sustainable fat loss and honoring my body... But i was always in an inquisitive/learning mindset. Sometimes making temporary drastic changes can be eye opening and inform which long term sustainable changes are most effective. When you feel bad or unhealthy for a really long time, your mind adapts. It can be really hard to remember or understand how much better you could be feeling. But 💯 agree that it doesn't mean anything and can make things worse if you can't translate that to sustainable action 🤷. Love the healthy take on getting and being healthy! Thank you so much for your vids, Keltie 💕

I remember a bunch of the comments made about Adele's weight loss was positive but in a backhanded way; they were all variants of saying her weight loss was the most successful thing of her life. It really emphasized the fact that from a societal standpoint, it's pushed on us women that the best we have to offer is our looks. Adele has always been wildly successful in her career, but so many people only see her weight loss as her greatest achievement.
