3:21 the first mistake was that you shipped each sample individually which cost you around as you say 150$. Prevention: whenever you are ordering a lot of samples from different suppliers always and i repeat always hire a consolidation company and send their address which they will provide you to the suppliers. Then the company will place all your samples in one box and then ship that to you which will save you alot of money.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, when I type consolidation companies near me, it typically refers to debt collectors. Do you mean the same shipping company?
@@BEASTNYCwhen we are sourcing a product from lets say Ali Baba all the manufacturers are from China and we ask almost 5 to 6 manufacturers for their sample of the product so we can test and decide which one is the perfect. So if we ask each of the manufacturers individually to send the sample to us it typically cost not so much but when 5 to 6 samples combined and sent individually it sums up to more money whereas if we consult a consolidation company it collect all these samples put then in one box and ships that box to us which costs less money cuz they have to pay the fees only one time instead of paying the fee for shipping for every single sample. I hope this clears your doubt. If you have any other queries about any Amazon related stuff feel free to ask.
I've slowly started delving into dropshipping and had interest in FBA and honestly this was one of the most helpful and easy to understand videos about it all. Thank you!
I was under the impression that once you pay for the first month for your seller account amazon don't take a monthly fee until you list your first product?
@TravisMarziani oh I see, thank you so much ,by the way, you are literally a celebrity in the amazon fba world! I have watched many of your video and you actually made me excited to launch a passion product of my own! I found a niche I enjoy I found a product that I bundled in a unique way and I defferentiated the product in numerous ways so that I will have my own original listing! I read all the complaints from my 2 main competitors reviews and I think I can solve these issues also, I found a great supplier who is fully verified 10 years in business ( I verified this info as well) . The product has high demand and low competition I think so naturally I am excited! Thank you again for being a inspiration 🙏
The only people making money on Amazon is Amazon. I worked with / owned 3 separate Amazon FBA businesses each ranging from ~$100k to 100M in annual revenue. All three companies went under due to Amazon fees +shipping fees +storage fees + COGS. Even doing $100M in revenue, the big company could barely make payroll.
hey bro, i have recently sign up for amazon affiliate program, the catch is need vat registration which i dont have, since i did own a company, any solution? pls. revert thanks
It seems to me that the $1600 "mistake" was actually a great marketing strategy. That "mistake" caused the product to move a lot more units (albeit at a substantial loss), which caused the almighty algorithm to recognize it as a hot seller, because ultimately it doesn't care about your profits or losses, only Amazon's. And if you have a rapid uptick in product flow through Amazon distribution, which ultimately nets Amazon a sudden quadrupling in their fees, then the algorithm sees the potential growth from promoting your product before some of the others (i.e. placement on the results page from a search for your type of product). So you lost $1600,which admittedly sucks a big one when you are initially starting out and trying to recoup the initial start-up costs and see if this idea of yours bears fruit and becomes a sustainable source of income. But you shouldn't consider it a loss, at least not in the form that you think. Think of it as a fee paid for advertising, and luckily for you that advertising paid off in the end. Because now you have watched your profits actually increase exponentially immediately following the $1600 advertising investment, which is not something that most small businesses, or most new business can say. A lot of times companies will elinvest substantially more into an advertising campaign, hoping to see that investment bear fruit, simply to find they receive little or no return on that investment. You on the other hand, can easily and clearly see the positive results of your "accidental ad campaign". And as a positive bonus, you were able to stop the majority of the orders from being processed, so you received the positive benefits of 100 percent of the sales made, but felt only 14% of the potential cost of that "promotion" (which was the exact definition of the word promotion as it promoted your business and it's sales and growth potential).
@@Yessirdo sounds reasonable. Do you also have new upc code or gs1 code for each used book? Sorry I'm quite new to this. Appreciate your time explaining.
What a fantastic, honest video. Troy, thank you for being vulnerable and sharing all of the numbers and learnings you had. Travis, thank you very much!
I always watch these RU-vid videos of people talking about their experiences but the first fck up is they hide their product and sure I understand their worried but it’s still not genuine so to show my gratitude for your honesty I just ordered red tennis grips from this brand. Thankyou for being very open from the get go. Now I shall learn to play tennis. Lol
@@KennTollens thx . I’ll watch the video. I’m a broke 20 year old who doesn’t like college so I’m trying to get into e commerce , so my family can see that u don’t need school to b wealthy lol
@@benvaldovinos1612 You definitely do not need school to be become wealthy. In fact, school has made so many people a slave to debt for life. Kudos for not getting into that trap. Just remember that it is not a weekend thing, give it a year or more, don't give up, and you can be a multimillionaire drop shipper. Good luck.
@@benvaldovinos1612 This guy starts from scratch with $100 or something and starts making profit very quickly, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f3IgJSxmVpY.html but your best bet is probably to learn the technics first from the other video.
The irony is, the coupon fiasco probably skyrocketed your conversion rate, which boosted your organic ranking (and PPC placement), and ended up boosting your sales in the long run, which is why your sales increased afterwards.
1000 tennis grips a month just randomly off amazon? That's bullshit dude must have some kind of viral following in the tennis community. Tennis influencer 100%
I really liked this video because it is a refreshing, transparent look at ecommerce that a lot of youtubers gloss over to show the get rich quick schemes instead. Learning that the long haul is a business like any other and requires the same investment of effort is a great wake up call!
Trav I've heard there are many amazon sellers that lie about thier revenue etc. to try and sell courses. You seem like a nice, sincere, genuine person. If that's the case you'll always be ok!!!
Most shipping agents in China offer consolidation, basically when you hire a shipping agent to transport goods to they have a warehouse where goods can be sent to, ask the agent for this address (usually in Chinese) and pass it on to the suppliers who have the products you want to source. They will quote you the fees, insist on receiving a tracking number and the courier company name to pass to the shipping agent. The fees for local courier services in China are generally very cheap but it does depend on the size and weight of the package, as there are numerous services that can be used depending on your need, such as time sensitive, bulk goods and so on. The shipping agent will then consolidate the goods into one shipment or package and this will save a ton of costs, I've been sourcing products for MNCs and SMEs for over a decade and I'm based in China so my info is solid.
I'm glad I found this video. I've been selling FBM retail arbitrage for a year now. I've been told religiously to stay away from FBA, but I'm researching it now. I realize now that I research my inventory much more than the people telling me to stay away from FBA. All my products typically sell within 2 months of listing whereas the family members advising me against it have had certain products on their shelves for over 3 years. I immediately steered away from branding my own product because of the really high startup costs of my passion products. I'm about to take my business in another direction.
Troy, congrats with your first product, and thanks for sharing your story. That 1.6k mistake was painful, but good you was able to recover and keep going!
So how it happened that magically after those 1600$ mistake sales went up, maybe buyers left some very good reviews being happy with your promotion and the good reviews attracted more buyers? Btw, congrats on eventually making a good profit after all those ordeals.
you havent watched Dan Vas's detailed FBA tutorial. A little dissapointing because for your research method you have used the "intuition method/ gut feeling/ passion" Ok a win for you but still a rocky unstable start that I dont support
I say this because i want to sell my products to the American market but I'm based in london currently it takes a week to get there and i was wondering if Amazon fulfilment would be a better option?
business success requires learning and learning is expensive …don’t think of it as a failure think of it as education …no one really kills it out of the gate…
Thank you so much for these words, I really needed them : "The people that win,.. They're the people that are in it for the long run".. Yes, I was about to just quit, I am in my second month with FBA paying PPC, I'm still breaking even, kinda discouraged, finding new ideas to improve.
The business model here is for Amazon to profit and not you, just look at how Amazon treats and pays its employees, you can't expect Amazon to treat the "entrepreneurs" getting on their bandwagon.
@@ironhorsegladiator5034 Amazon pays its employees more than any other comparable warehouse company, with top of the line benefits, and better treatment than I’ve seen at any of the 6 previous industries I’ve worked in. The 2% of the population that complain don’t speak for the other 98%.
1 year in, 6 figures of revenue the first year, 5 figure months started around 7 months in, which made for a nice PPP, which made for a super boost for 2021! Stoked!
thank you so much for showing us a real normal case, I am so tired of seeing people making 10,000 a month, with 25% profit, like magic lol that discourages me so much, but then I see people that are also learning like me but staying positive and perseverant. Thanks so much!
My biggest mistake and I still don't understand the why even after I asked amazon, is using FBA I was selling about the same on FBA as I was on FBM but my profits with FBA was about 3-400 a month but Before FBA and after FBA when I returned to FBM my profits were 2-3K same amount of sales the person I talked to from amazon said that was wrong and I should have had more Profit than FBM,but I told them I'm looking at the checks amazon sends and those are the numbers.

Travis Marziani I’ve heard the recommend starting retail price should be $15+, I would think one of his limitations is the low selling price of his product.
Amazon is amazing. However, don't try to outcompete famous brands or big shoppers. Find other opportunities that have volume and a lack of quality products. It takes time to analyze but results will pay for it.
My partner and I opened an Amazon account and added a product. It was poorly done. So our next iteration, we removed the product and added the product again with the proper information. Now, though we have paid our monthly $39.99 the product page does not show. an error shows that multiple sellers sell the same product. We tried to contact Amazon, but with no resolve.
That's the power of a good "mistake". You could actually replicate in a more controlled way in order to generate tons of traffic that will benefit in the long run. Social media promo codes are the best way to go.
hello friends I have two serious questions please help me answer this question 1, if I private label a facial product on amazon does amazon ask for medical documents for that facial product or i need a document which state that this product is not harmful to face or something like this or shall i sell with out any document on amazon 2. SKU label what do i do here ? i have already order my sample from china they should be here by tomorrow what do i do for SKU label should i buy label now from US and send them to my manufacturer or what do i do when should i do ?
I started in 2018, used jungle scout found a fairly well selling product and made a bunch of sales, maybe like 1200 revenue first month, unfortunately I was using dropshipping and the morons sent out the wrong style items that the people ordered and a bunch of people gave me bad reviews all at once and my account was suspended for 6 months at which point I just said F this. Luckily however the rest of my inventory amazon LOST and they covered the cost so I broke even over all lol.
@@TravisMarziani I remember people saying in 2018 the competition is getting fierce and probably only a few years left before its not even worth most peoples time, I suppose they were just talking about selling products from China lol. I did have a few products of my own through FBA which sold. They didn't sell very fast and they were seasonal. I guess I was pretty skeptical about the whole thing and never wanted to put down too much on any single product because the products I WAS selling were selling so slow that If I got hundreds of something I was afraid it would just sit there and never gain rank. I also didn't like the idea of paying 35 dollars each for samples and then possibly not getting anything worthwhile after like 10 samples and ditching that product then trying again and losing more and more money. There are plenty of ways to lose money in this and you have to be very careful. Maybe I am just to scared of losing that I defeated myself before I started. Bottom line though I never did find a product that I had enough faith would sell to invest thousands of dollars on.
Maybe one of the better videos I’ve seen. Good job. Being transparent about the costly mistakes really is so helpful and it’s the questions asked that are the best content. Can he use Wilson or other name brand products in his keyword to help put his product in front of those potential buyers?
I think an obvious aspect to running FBA is exploiting cheap manufacturing, that's American consumerism in a nutshell. Applies to consuming and exploitation/capitalism.
This was helpful! I registered a business and signed up for Amazon FBA a week ago I was planning on just finding wholesale products that already exist and have a name/ratings but you have me curious about branding my own products now. What’s great is by the 6th month he’s doing great with just 1 product and at that point he knows what to expect and has a feel for it and would be a lot easier to add new products
That is literally why I haven't completely started because I wish I had someone going through this with me so I know what I'm doing and avoid mistakes!
Entreprenuership is a noble persuit , but there isnt really a substitute for getting a education in something, or a trade. So many people fail and its really true to have a backup plan
I´m selling on amazon for 4 years and sold my first brand after 18 month. I started out with 30k and was able to sell my company for 150k after 18 month which was quiet a success. I think the minimum amount you need is 5k. at least the way I appoached it. I also made a video about it, so people can learn from my experience :) thanks for sharing your journey.
I mean you shouldn't just be blindly guided by passion, I dont think anyone is suggesting that but if you research products that are in a area you are passionate and knowledgeable about its much easier to be successful.
Hi Travis, Thanks for a great video! I think I made a wrong product choice. My product's become me-too product, and no sales for a week since I launched my product. I will do my best as much as I can, but I started to realize I should think of a case removing my inventory from Amazon warehouses. The thing is, I am in the states, but in other country. It would be much easier if I am in the U.S because I would just simply have Amazon deliver my products to my house, but not in my case. Do you have any suggestion?
This seems unrealistic. Was this done in 2020? Because you couldn't even ship things into amazon from april to about august because of covid-19. Then it takes weeks to actually have your product became available for sale. And somehow your making profit on the second month? In my expirience even with PPC your product is still invisible for several months before you make some sales. And when you do make sales you sale a few a week. You wouldn't make over a thousand dollars profit like in your example.
So my wife and I are getting into Amazon FBA and we have been calculating costs with Amazon‘s Calculator and it tells us approximately how much we will make after fees that are there for using Amazon. Now if you have a company that you created for this, you also have to take out the additional 30% for taxes for the end of the year , correct?
You can write off all expenses. So basically you can at the end of the year when they send you a 1099 form, when you file your taxes you put all your expenses (the 70%). I believe with this you will probably pay
I am new to eCommerce, and I'm in my preparation stage, glad I found out about your channel, I will come back and comment on your video when my eCommerce career is successed! Your video solved all of my questions and the issues that I am facing right now, Thank you, Travis!
You failed because your strategy and coatings were not to the dot..and I mean it's a cut throat business and no room for mistakes...I make £80kpm GBP and enjoy the benefits of FBA and the Amazon market....Re assess where you are going wrong and fix it...for a start rather than paint a poor picture of the FBA facility/ process
I"m still trying to recover from my first product. I still have 50% of my units after 2 years and had several hundred disposed of by Amazon. I never did conquer PPC. All told my 2 year 1st product launch has been at a negative of about $10k (but still have inventory). Need more $ and time to turn it around or find product #2.
What is your formula or criteria when picking a product where you can actually have some liquidity ? Most people I know say "I made this much !", but really they just keep putting that profit/money into buying more merch to resell and they hardly put anything in their wallet meanwhile all the time they put into it. Thanks.
Fantastic video - very motivating. Quick question - I know there are a lot of gurus out there but I really don't want to spend absurd amount of money on courses. I will take a look at your free, but what would be next step after that?
