made sense when they only targeted on squad at a time when carriers had multi squadrons. dunno if it make sense now, unless you fight multi carriers.

My US cruisers were all AA build and ruined CV's games if they decided to push the group I was protecting. It was a lot of fun for me back in the day. Definitely the kind of thing that "the spreadsheet" said was bad for CV players and helped caused the changes, but in mind was OK since I was sacrificing a lot of other things for that build and it was useless in a non-CV game. That being said a well played CV was still very strong, cross dropping and their active fighters all out at once was pretty fun to watch.

I had secondary build for some time on Republique ... I had few fun battles , but about 90% with that build was bad ones , now I run classic sniper build on her , and she is made for that . (BTW Republique was my first T10 so I have experimented )

@@l.a.w.5738 It was secondaries because of the symbol in the kill feed. That symbol only shows if it was a secondary battery kill.

@@l.a.w.5738 it looks like the rep. main gun overpen a few seconds earlier hit the dd, but not sure if such a hit would cause damage (probably not). And after that, a secondary stray shell killed it.

What you say doesn't make sense. If they worked the way you wanted, the CVs wouldn't do any harm. Shooting down planes is what counts, because squadrons end up pretty easy if you're not careful.

@@saladino8882 Clearly you didn't play the game prior to the 2018 rework. Back then, there were ships that had good enough AA to shoot down entire squadrons before the carrier could get a drop off. CVs had to think twice about attacking the likes of Montana or Moskva or Des Moines, and instead look for weaker targets. They required a brain to play. Not this mindless gameplay we have now where no ship is safe and can be abused for free.

@@JustSomeGuyWithNoMaidens totally right. There was actual coordination between the members of the team in order to weaken those ships you mentioned. Carriers had to be careful to use cover to preserve their FINITE supply of aircraft.

@@JustSomeGuyWithNoMaidens That's so true, carries back then was a high risk high reward with a lot of brain needed. You play smart you can destroy a ship pretty quickly but if you make a mistake and lose all your planes then you're useless.

@@JustSomeGuyWithNoMaidensand you are clearly telling only half of that story. Because back then CVs could dev strike ship left and right, but that part is also gone. Also you could cross drop, so dodging and mitigating damage we can do nowdays was nonexistent back then. So yes, AA was nerfed, but so was CV's (alpha) damage.

And in the next game, when you see that backing up BB broadside, and you had the fall-short bug... man, you do have some self-control. I would not be laughing, whenever that happens I can't stand it, makes me not want to play the game instantly. lol

@@CorsairCombat13I beg to differ. With the 4 point AA skill you can get amazing cooldown on your MBRB, in addition to other skills that further reduce cooldowns. Not to mention with defensive AA you can destroy entire squads

AA build austin is hilarious. You can vaporize any planes comming at you once you activate priority sector and DFAA.

it's damn amazing. I focused on CV and Johann De Witt's planes. They just melt and can't reach the target. (working not so good for t11 CVs. They don't care and just drop)

@@HomieMcBro Reminder that ASW planes also trigger that skill. That skill is basically another 10s cdr on MBRB even in matches without carriers. And the other 2 point skill is only 2 points, nothing wrong with spiting the carrier with it for only 2 points.

if you look closely he has a addon that keeps track of the %AA and %secondaries that are still alive and by the end of the game he was still at 90%

or defensive AA. I still think Vermont is among the best aa bb in the game. Just the other day I full cleared dropless Midway torp planes. I haven't done that since November, 2023. I feel they are hot-tweaking aspects of the game, because there was a long hiatus for effectively being able to take down planes since late last year.

You only get that extra +2 flak when you have a DefAA consumable running. On ships without DefAA it's just 15% DPS, and that's not nothing, but dispersion on the main guns, or reload rate for everyone else is just simply more effective. AAM2's AA effects should really be the slot 3 mod again, and AAM2 should get extra boosts for secondaries. Like slap another 20% secondary dispersion boost on it or something.

And? That burst damage feels like it does JACK SHIT! You may as well pop it a little early so your AA is FULLY FOCUSED on that side for Max DPS.

@@jaywerner8415 Fairly sure the AA ramping was removed at some point, at the very least It's completely unnoticeable even on full AA builds, so there is no benefit to having the sector set early, and that burst of damage is 3.5%-5% of the squads total HP applied to the entire squad, some squads yeah that's not gonna do much, others it's quite the chunk of damage. Ether way free damage is free damage. Ultimately you have 15 seconds of priority sector on a BB, starting your sector early just means that much LESS time the CV squad is taking the enhanced damage. Given AA is a DPS race against the squads HP pool, the most damage you can get the fastest is how you take down squads. And trust me as someone who plays CVs and AA Cruisers(AA Gouden Leeuw for life), you can feel when someone uses their priority sector to early or best case for the CV not at all.

@@Stephen__White I watch the damage numbers, ramping up your AA does happen. The green indicator is on the ship compass certainly indicates as such. Or maybe its just the planes flying into closer AA ranges. I too played CVs and AA ships for long while. The AA burst hurts, but not enough to really matter. VS just doing more AA damage by focusing the AA.

@@jaywerner8415 It's hard to make out the exact numbers on screen because RU-vid video but watch the AA damage at 1:46 to 1:56 the only time the continuous AA damage increases is when the planes enter the closer range AA fields. The indicator on the ship compass with the timer is how long the sector lasts and what side of the ship it's on nothing more. Also using that strike as an example, the raw burst of ~1100 damage was around 4 seconds worth of long range AA damage instantly dealt to the squad. AA is a DPS race, and that gave PQ 4 extra seconds of DPS. All be it spread over the entire squad, but the damage does still add up. It does highly depend on the size and HP of the squad, but I can't see a reason to not at least try to hit the attacking squad with the burst. Even more so where against some CVs like the Russians it might be your only chance to get any damage off before the attack is dropped.

American or Japanese tech tree battleships are easy to learn, fun to use, and great for XP. The British and German tech trees are good to learn once you've gotten plenty experience with the US and JP trees.

It's almost as if CVs like to not lose their aircraft if they can help it. Wild idea I know. Like why would they want to do that? They have infinite aircraft don't ya' know. It's so obvious that a lot of people who talk about CVs have never played CVs. Even PQ in his big "CVs don't belong in the game" video spent most of that video playing FDR, the CV everyone could agree was and still is brokenly overpowered and the CV that is the most noob friendly just giving the stupidly high HP of each squad.(FDR seems to always be the CV the anti-CV CCs and former CCs play when they want to convince their audience CVs are broken... it's almost as if they know their point wouldn't be made if they played anything else.)
