Fantastic PR video for the RN, ordered by captain Peter, who hired the best actress Kikie, and handsome, inteligent actor Dan. Thank all of you: Captain Peter, the crew members - my best congratulations to her majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, and two actors as mention above. You agreed to play for free. That is why you are loved among the Uma nation members and their friends. Best wishes, M.
Agree totally, you would need to have paid a PR agency thousands to produce a video anywhere near this quality, I thought it showed the Royal Navy (and Royal Marines before I start getting pelters for missing them out) in a really positive light, going about their daily work. Albion is a unique vessel, which they touched on, with many capabilities...not just projecting power, which is probably its prime function, but also providing humanitarian aid to disaster zones. The Royal Navy may have shrunk somewhat in recent decades, but we should be immensely proud of what remains.
Thanks so much again to everyone who tuned in for the premiere of this video! it was really nice to hangout and chat with so many of you. If you missed the premiere, no worries, you can re-watch the video normally. Don't forget to hit the like :) and feel free to Let us know if you think doing this again would be a good idea ! Cheers
Pretty cool the way you did that. Never saw anyone premiere a video in that fashion. I was at work and only watched a couple minutes of it, rewatching now.
A special shout out to the Captain and Crew of HMS Albion for their hospitality by bringing Dan and Kika on board to give them and us a glimpse of life aboard the flagship of HM Royal Navy. Awesome job on the video Dan & Kika it was a great adventure to watch. I am sure it was even better in person. Thanks & Cheers!
@@zesty1285 For a short while after HMS Ocean was taken out of commission and before HMS Queen Elizabeth was fully operational, HMS Albion was the RN flagship.
I am a Canadian, And let me say that Kika, You personify what it means to be Canadian. You have done so consistently throughout every video uploaded. These two videos prove my point without a doubt. A petition should be started, these videos should be shown to Trudeau, you should be granted a Canadian Passport. Now that is something I could get behind! I would be honoured to have you in my country.
Did a career in the US Navy. Never remember hugging any of my ships' captains or calling them by their first names, but then again I lack Kika's charm. Great video!
You guys have gone way beyond just another youtube sailing channel. This would be considered a top class docco on any TV network. It was epic guys. Amazing that you had so much access to a war ship, and the crew! Loved every minute of it (except when I snorted coffee out of my nose, at work, because of Kika's subtitles in the motor room. :P )
I served on a US Navy destroyer back in the early seventies. And of course a destroyer is a small ship, and I knew this would be much bigger, but I was just awestruck again and again at how vastly larger this ship is. And the technology . . . well, it makes my little boat seem like a relic of the stone age.
yeah. And remember that most navies would consider a destroyer to be a pretty big ship, would be happy to have one or two as flag ships for their fleets.
One word. Wow. Just wow. A brilliant video and a big round of applause to the RN, Captain and crew for welcoming you on board and showing you around. A big shout out also to the Bootnecks.
this has to be the best advertising for the Royal Navy ever!!! on top that the Crew & Captain are really good man and with this kind of job still up for a good joke!!!!!
Thank You so much Captain Laughton and The British Navy for picking one of the fantastic sailing couples to be on Board and join in the drills and everyday work on the HMS Albion. WOW Warp Speed Awesome
NOOOOOOO!!!!!! That's it? Over already? Many thanks to Kika & Dan, the crew of the Albion, and the Royal Navy for the visit aboard. Semper Fortis! BZ brothers & sisters
Top notch job you two! You capture the idea of a Royal Naval ship and how large they are in real life. Great ending, thanks you for sharing your adventure with us.
This Video is probably the best one, I've ever seen on YT. Brilliant storytelling, awesome Editing, more than well fitting music on point and a interesting view on board of a warship. Like a documentation on pay TV but way better. Thanks for share it with us. :-)
What an awesome Ship, Captain and Crew. We are fortunate to have such admirable allies. Great presentation Kika and Dan. Thank you. All ahead, Mr Spock. Warp 9!
WOW OH WOW, That is great! You got Security clearance to do That? Take this back to EU with help on your Visa/Haiti issues. I am so happy for you . Very Very few sailors get that tour.
Great to See the RN / RM showing the world of RU-vid what they are about and also Nice to see Dan & Kika entering into the world of the HM Forces and showing the world the capabilities of the RN when it is required in Humanitarian relief operations and the Vehicle's that they use to Aid people around the world when the need arises and they do it a lot in the Caribbean after Hurricane disasters Well Done guys
Exceptional on all fronts. Win win for Uma duo (and their v slick filming and editing) and for HMS Albion and her canny captain! RN adverts don't get better than that!
This has made me proud to be a British taxpayer. Our armed forces represent money well spent - not just for their service but for their humanity, humility and sense of humour on occasions like this. And I believe having two non-Brits presenting this from their perspective makes it all the better. This is one of the best videos on YT. Wish it could have been longer.
What an awesome experience! You have done a wonderful job of editing and keeping it positively riveting! What a great time! I'm sure the royal navy is getting many more recruits from such a different yet awe inspiring vision of what it's like aboard a royal navy ship! I'm so jealous! And that ship is just wonderful and the crew is amazing. All have done a wonderful job! I can't wait for the next installment! I wish for every single crewman to be safe and happy and return home unharmed and healthy! And thanks to all involved in the making of this video! Just wow, what a great way to show us all what its like!
Best content on RU-vid so far. Wow HMS Albion. So glad you all were given access, and they educated us all so well. Thank you for this. I actually learned a lot. I didn’t know you were all firefighters but makes sense. You actually sink part of the ship (mind blown 🤯). I loved the tomato 🍅. The ship is enormous, and very clean. The Royal Navy is pristine and efficient. I wonder how often do they clean? The captain was so cool and down to earth. You sometimes forget that these are real people. So thank you again for this human aspect. I loved everything about this. Side note: the guitar player sounded really good. So aces.
Well done Captain and crew of HMS Albion and Sailing Uma Fantastic PR that exampled the very best of the RN/RM and the sailing community in general. The edit, music selection and ending were great
This was a pretty awesome reminder of how much more our military men and women across the globe really do, not just in times of war, but general humanitarian efforts. I am in awe of these last two episodes. Really impressive on all fronts. 👏🏻👍🏻
Awesome episode guys , I think it’s fantastic that you are willing to dedicate an episode to giving people an insight into the brave men and women who serve to protect our freedom . A first for a sailing Channel and gives me a whole new respect for you guys .
Simply awesome ! Unique adventure for any civilian ! Shall we call you Admiral Kika now ? And Dr Spoock, aka Dan ? Wonderful vid ! You two rock, kiddos ! Imaginr, being VIP visitors on an hypertech ship, I would have thousands questions !! I'm 67, son of a WW2 veteran sailor/engineer on HMS Giffard, a "small" corvette, the most endangered class of war ships, on duty to chase/destroy nazi submarines. My late father would have been thrilled to see and analize that hybrid power system. RIP Father, my hero.
We saw a Corvette moored in Halifax I believe. Huge ship....compared to Uma, but yes, quite small when sat beside the current lineup of floating cities.
That was quite a privilege to be treated as VIPs on the HMS Albion! Capt Laughton must enjoy your vlogs as much as the rest of us! I hope everyone noticed just how clean all the spaces were throughout the ship. Every space must be cleaned thoroughly daily to prevent the infestation of insects or mold and mildew. The R2D2-looking 'gatling gun on a trash can" looks to be similar to the US Navy's CIWS "Phalanx" which puts out an impressive rate of radar-controlled fire (20mm?) at a cruise missile-type target coming in at high speed, or a small cruising sailboat that won't yield to a warship in right of way situations! :) I was hoping Kika's first commands were going to be: "Lt Ohura, open comms to engineering! Scotty, engage the warp drive and prepare to jump to light speed! Then set in the coordinates for, and beam me to the mess deck's soft-serve ice cream dispenser! Spock, can you foresee the logic of a woman Captain? Stardate 2020 March 2, Captain's log: Having just gone where no tiny woman has ever gone!" The large ship's "door' hatches were marked with several large letters painted on them. All the hatches marked with a 'Z' are designated to be closed and LOCKED when going to General Quarters, which is a 'battle-ready' condition. They are special water-tight hatches and critical to survival of the war-fighting capabilities of the ship, and so once condition 'Z'ebra is set throughout the ship under battle conditions (or drills) those doors may not be reopened until the condition is unset. So it's good to know where the heads are in each compartment! So if the ship's hull is breached during an attack, water coming into the ship will be contained by those hatches at the expense of those crew behind them to save the entire ship from sinking. Think of it as being similar in purpose to the watertight bulkheads normally found behind the bow's chainlocker for the same purpose (collisions). The Amels (SV Delos) have several watertight bulkheads throughout their boats to help keep it afloat if rammed by another boat or it strikes a partially submerged shipping container. Did they tell you what to blur out for security reasons or did they have to do all the editing?
Brings back old memories! A company I used to work for supplied the hvac systems to Albion & Bulwark. Never got on board either but did get aboard HMS Vanguard which was pretty cool. Great content guys!
Kika and Dan, this video was Brilliant! Well done giving us a small glimpse of the men and women doing such a important mission for their country, and the world. Thank you Royal Navy, for sharing your life with us. Safe travels.
As for the first episode, everything is perfect... narration, editing, music, even humor when impossible to bring us explanations.... In short, best documentary ever seen on TV... And a big shout out for RN and Captain Peter for sure (BTW, your 2 videos are ones of the bests PR content I've ever seen for such things)
COOL Video! Absolutely splendid! The hospitality and good nature of everyone on board was beyond everything I imagined! Safe seas, HMS Albion! May you return your crew unharmed to your harbour.
WOW, the access the Royal Navy gave you was amazing and good PR for the RN. Looked like they masked out their 'special operators' and the access they gave you to 'point defense' Phalanx was very impressive.
Had a big smile on my face the entire time! What an amazing adventure!!! Thank you to the Royal Navy for inviting us all to be a part of the adventure! Thank you for your service! Dan and Kiki... excellent filming and editing, as always. Truly epic!
There's a wee little bit of luck involved at the start of every human endeavor. It's what you do with that little bit that determines how far you'll go. 😊
Paul Brochner I agree there is some luck involved, however it seems too many people give up their own agency and minimize the hard work of others by saying, “ I wish I could be an entrepreneur or I wish I could go sailing those people who do it are so lucky.” I felt that when someone told me how lucky i was to live on my boat for eight years they minimized all the hard work and the sacrifices(no couch buying) that it took to get there. Same thing in my business. To some people I was incredibly lucky, but those same people would only work eight hours a day five days a week.
Very nice tour. I worked on the USS Raleigh LPD-1 which is also an amphibious transport dock like what this vessel is here, except ours were powered by Babcox and Wilcox 600-lb boilers instead of diesel.
If you thought that was loud, I once served duty as boiler monitor aboard a 70 yr old vintage WW2 corvette during a joint amphibious landing exercise, ear protection only made the vibration worse. By the time my shift ended, I felt like someone had held a jackhammer to my ear all day. This brought back memories, from shooting the fantail .50 cal to watching the 40mm and 105mm guns shake the rust off the old ship's ceiling and walls during the GunnEx. That old corvette was decommissioned a year later.
I watched this video for the third time. I'd like to see a sailing channel to beat this episode (all in in one you guys - for me, at least). None of them will. NEVER!
You guys are IMPRESSIVE. It is a measure of how good you are that the Captain invited you onboard his ship (and what a lovely guy) . You both ooze sheer ability in everything but most of all, the filming of your adventure. So professional. I would swear this was a documentary produced by the BBC (other experts are available) and directed by Attenborough. I should have gone to bed a couple of hours ago but...... just one more episode xx
WOW! Thank you guys for sharing this journey with us. Did you wear a pedometer while onboard? It appears you walked miles plus all the stairs/ladders. I bet the landing craft ride was awesome. I'm jealous to have missed this trip. Again, thanks 4 sharing :-) Jay
Having served on two of the largest aircraft carriers I know what you went through travelling the different levels. I really enjoyed the way you ended the video, I was a Star Trek fan.
The captain must be a hardcore fan of your channel. Usually naval vessels or military bases /other installations are not so welcoming towards people whose purpose is to shoot and publish video. Most vessels of our navy are smaller than those landing craft of the RN... :) But our waters are much more shallow too... res nco
NOOOOOOO... I did not want this episode to be over!!!! Brilliant ending, though. Kika is the classiest of classy and Dan captures it so well. LOVE THESE TWO!!! They have helped me through a pandemic by binge watching their videos. Getting close to catching up to present day. That's alright! I will just start all over again. ha
When I was 5 or 6 my parents had a friend who was stationed on a destroyer. When the ship came into Alameda (where they keep the nuclear wessles) we were invited on a tour. The captain let me sit in his seat and use his giant binoculars. I was very excited when I saw an airplane.
