Honestly I think this was great,Troy being out of his comfort zone and playing against people with more experience is very entertaining,especially because everything is closer and Troy isnt winning most of it
Troy did pretty great though. 38 points in the 2nd GP, lots of top 4 finishes, just a bad last GP and his teammate had a rough few races. I think Troy is great at evading items which is what gives him the edge even over guys like NMeade who is obviously a much better time trialer and equally experienced, just gets hit more often.
Troy getting mario karted on the last lap every time he's close to finishing in a top spot reminds me of a disappointed dad whose kids keep on making irresponsible life decisions, and he's just so tired of it that he just sighs and moves on with his life whenever it happens now
I feel like doing Competitive with Nick is kind of the best format for these when it comes to making these content. All in all i enjoy these since you and nick make these videos so fun. Plus what i enjoy these for is the communication in Voice chat aspect. Thanks for uploading this Troy.

@@misscubegd it's basically competitive mario kart with a rating system. skilled players compete against each other (whether it be individual play or team play) in competitive events and gain points (called MMR i think) depending on how well they do.
@@misscubegd Lounge is a way to play competetive mario kart against other people. You usually do it through discord servers and you play against people of a similar skill level. A lot of people (me included) think it is more fun than worldwides since it feels like it matters more and you usually have teammates you have to take into account while playing.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Troy, I know you said you don’t play competitive anymore but this was a lovely little throwback to around 10 years ago when I’m sure a lot of us who have long quit the game used to play in wars
The war community is actually at its most active ever in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at the moment! The main reason I got involved myself (after years of putting it off) is because I loved watching Troy’s wars when I was much younger, so I’m glad you got some nostalgia from this vid 🙌

PLEASE do more of these, I really like seeing you compete with the new/old generation of MK players and really pushing yourself to make harder and harder plays! The competitiveness does come at a cost of commentary but you did really well with adding in your own voice overs, speeding up the video at certain parts.
This video was so entertaining! I dont usually watch all of the video if its 30 min +, but this was so exciting and I got hooked the second the race started!

"Taking it seriously robs a lot of the enjoyment out of the game for me..." This is so true of many things imo. Mario Kart is such a goofy game that it feels weird making it competitive
I know this is mk8dx, but some of the competitive youtubers I watch (L1am and gyrodos) have really good sportsmanship and simply say “that sucks” to the worst luck you’ve ever seen. Some competitive players have infinitely better sportsmanship than some sweaty casuals in the 10k vr range whining about bagging when they lose. I do NOT want to see a rage gamer take this game seriously though :/
mario kart can be an incredibly in depth competitive experience when it’s broken down, especially when a majority of the time the scenes tend to not actually modify game rules for competition (like smash bros removing items and such). despite that, it exists in its own bubble but people within that bubble are seriously passionate about it
good to see a group of devs who are quick to implement suggestions and genuinely want to see the game grow as opposed to a one man show that has limited the experience and unnecessarily messed with things
It was really cool to see what you do when everything is thrown at you troy. It sucks that you didnt seem to like it, but also its not good to do what you dont like all the time. that can cause burnout real quick and just sucks for you as a person to go through.
I can respect you wanting to play the game for fun more than competitive even though I knew you in your competitive days in MKW. Still really enjoyable for me to watch you play these even though I can understand you not liking to play competitive much these days.

28:58 so true. That basically applies to every competitive game. I personally feel speedrunning is a good compromise between having fun and taking a game seriously, bc you're fighting against yourself instead of fighting against try hards (they really like to suck out the fun of the game). That's why i feel competitive games are pretty worthless to pursue unless if you really really like what you're doing.

This was fun to watch but I totally get why you wouldn’t enjoy playing it consistently. It seems very stressful and there’s just no time to relax. I felt on edge just watching it tbh.
For DS Rainbow Road, it’s cool how there’s no loop since they couldn’t do that on many tracks years ago aside from Melting Magma Melee and Kirio Raceway
Agreed they’re really scaled well and have lots of fun shortcuts. The GBA RR sides are a little tricky, just have to be very careful not to get accidental low tricks

Hi Troy! I don't know if Troy just got unlucky in this event, or if he's not used to how ruthless competitive players play. Either way, I totally understand why he doesn't do competitive play very often.
@TWD98 89 is 14 above average Average is 75 in mkwii n 80 in deluxe Basically you WERE ANCHORED or someone boosted him illegally I have quit league Mario kart wii n a couple others because I get sick of always getting the worst player everytime on my team syndrome like you did
2v2s and 3v3s always feel so chaotic and lack a lot of the strategy that Clan Wars have that make them interesting in my opinion (Especially when you’re not able to actively communicate with your teammate/s). It’s unfortunate the CW scene has really shrunk since the early 2010s.

I like break drifting and think it should stay in retro rewind, but think it should have some type of nerf. Maybe like its more or less effective based on your combos handling stat?
6v6 seems like a much more logical way to play competitive events anyway. You get to strategize and have “positions” on a team, you get to have meaningful calls and item play that aren’t just ‘not my one other teammate? Send it lmao.’ Teams of two is just FFAs but sometimes you have to care about another player. Super lame compared to 6v6 imo
