@@IllisiaAdams once you cancel it, all the paywalled features stop working too. from then on, you can set one temperature you like, and the bed stays that temperature until you manually change it again. they used to include scheduled temperature changes for free, but they've decided to paywall those too.
I managed to order it without the subscription. When I saw it, I was like okay never mind. It still placed and shipped. Once I got it and found out everything but manual temp control is pay walled. It’s ridiculous.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I nearly clicked on pay now on their site and said, "let me go to RU-vid and look for an honest unsponsored review. I happened to find you and I'm glad I did. I have the same issue just like you and can't afford to spend all these money and then some as a retiree. Thank you very much
I think you would be well served to check out those reviewers of Eight Sleep who are over 50. No offense to Mr Hong, but the sleep situation of a young person is significantly different than a man at retirement age. Temperature regulation becomes far more important than how soft the mattress is. As a retiree myself I am finding that adequate REM and deep sleep are almost entirely dependent on temperature.
@@gordonsavagedo you own the product? i’m quite young myself but am finding that my sleep is becoming more and more troublesome as my body temperature rises throughout the night. since the pod 4 has been released with a lot of the changes mentioned in this video, i’m leaning towards a purchase. i have been having horrible sleep for awhile now and hope this may do the trick.
Good idea trying it in August when you need the cooling the most! I like the idea behind the product but hate the idea of paying a subscription for a mattress topper...
I added this thing to my cart at nearly $3k and then I got to the next step which was choosing the service package at various monthly rates. The next step was me closing that tab in my browser. Unreal.
Thanks, was about to buy until I saw this. Other reviewers had even more to say about noise levels, especially on hotter days. You saved me 3000 bucks + a subscription 🙏
I think this company should hire you to help them create the perfect product. I was seriously thinking about investing in the Eight Sleep, but after hearing your review and reading your transparent and honest report, I've decided to hold off for now. You bring up a lot of important points that need to be considered. $40 a month? Seriously? Keep up the great work!
I was an early adopter of the Eight Sleep (2020). I purchased the Pod Pro (Mattress and zip on active grid) that ran me closed to $4200! Two years in, the original active grid started leaking. They were quick to replace it after asking for some pictures. Fast forward to July 2024, my current active grid started leaking I'm guessing the warranty is two years because after asking for a couple pics, they are sending the newer POD 3 active grid which apparently is a significant upgrade from my previous two. When this thing works (not leaking), its amazing IMO. Easy to say when you don't have to pay $500 for a new cover (if out of warranty). ;)
That's a bit weird argument. How frequently have you not had WiFi? I can't really remember a single instance in my past 6 years where I had such issues with the Internet. And let's say for whatever reason there's a night without WiFi. One night without temperature regulation is not the end of the World. You can still sleep. I'm just saying here that a lot of arguments seem a bit weird since these things likely won't matter significantly at all. I also don't care about the subscription fee. To me if anything this incentives the company to keep developing the software. You just add it to your estimated cost and then determine what kind of value it would bring to you. This is just math. My main question is. Is it going to increase quality of your sleep and what kind of effects having this increased quality bring to your life? Then calculate if the expense is worth the value it brings. This is the only thing that matters. In your calculations you can just calculate the value add per 5 years and then 5 x 12 x sub fee + initial cost for simplified calc.
Had Eight Sleep for nearly two years. The first mattress leaked and was replaced, pretty efficiently, for a third generation. No issues experienced since. As a 52 year old I definitely benefit from the cooler temperature at night (we dont have AC), it has increased my HRV and recovery scores on Whoop. I do not subscribe, it doesn't make sense and I was not confident in the data it produced vs Whoop and Garmin- it was wildly different not only to those but also night on night. I'd recommend the cooling system but not the add ons. Another vote from me for an honest and unbiased review- thankyou
I bought this super expensive mattress and it's been just over one year and the hub stopped working. I've contacted support but it's very very very frustrating so far because they have been zero help. I wouldn't recommend this mattress to anyone.
It's not a mattress, though. It's a mattress *topper* . If it were a mattress, you could put it on your bed frame by itself, and I dread to think how uncomfortable that would be! That said, thank you for posting that Comment. The reviewer was also not happy with the customer service, so it's clearly not just your experience that they suck at helping customers :-( That's a major no-no for me. *Especially* at that price point; blimey!
Thanks for your honest thoughts! It's hard to sift through all the information and figure out if a product lives up to it's promises, so it's super helpful to have have your unbiased opinion as someone who tried it to help us out. Great video!
May Sound silly to ask. Can you time it into an alexa? like voice say "raise bed temp a degree" or such?? Also you said if internet goes out. If you have back up power do you mean your wifi router, or do you mean internet access?? What is this combined with a bed that you could adjust the softness of the bed, like a sleep number or some of those beds?
I wonder how much of your comfort issue is related to having a memory foam topper. Memory foam works via body heat softening the foam which is what allows for that slow melting conformance to your body. That might explain why you felt more comfortable with the temperature setting set to warm the bed. I'm tempted to give it a try, but it would be a deal breaker if it changed the pressure relieving qualities of my bed.
I kept thinking similarly: why not put one of the mattress toppers over the sleep 8. You can still feel comfortable, and the sleep 8 will remove excess body heat.
@@albundy3929 1, foam is an insulator but not perfect, heat and air do pass through it. 2, a topper is much thinner then a mattress, and compressed, you would still get thermal transfer.
I love mine. Once it's set at -5 to sleep, -4 for REM (I think) and -6 to help wake with the silent alarm. I just sleep well. I would like a cheaper product as I don't need sleep tracking or auto pilot or any other fancy thing.
If you are sleeping hot do not use memory foam. Natural fibres like a wool mattres and mattress topper are much better for temperature regulation. Synthetic fibres are petroleum based and are a poor substitute.
My husband purchased the newest model and we’ve had it for three weeks and I am sleeping worse than I have ever slept. I’m not sure why. I try and limit wifi and technology in the bedroom to help sleep so this is a change. I just can’t believe how my sleep has got progressively worse.
This product is way too expensive. Makes me kinda mad that podcasts with viewers trying to make it is being sold a product for 4000 Eu and subscription payments. There must be a cheaper one out there with equal qualities.
Mattress protectors come out of the box needing a break in period. Plus mattress toppers makes it worse for me. Traps heat. Let it break in before a quick review
this product doesn't work at all if your internet goes out. insane.. even the manual controls don't do anything if you lost internet in your house. Now you don't have internet and your bed is too hot.. huge flaw
They are definitely over thinking the product. Ditch the smart features, the app, and subscription model. Make a unit with simple tactile buttons and you have something I would buy. I like tech, but they are trying to do things that no one wants.
Thanks for this honest review. haha wow, its completely useless without wifi/the app. Is it just me or is the monthly subscription ridiculous? They're not really providing anything special, and without it you can't even use basic functions like scheduling the temperatures.
They were bought by a money-grubbing hedge fund and that's why they're scamming us for a subscription. Has nothing to do with making a better product. Has all to do with the original owner selling out to a money grubbing corporation. Don't support this. There are other alternatives
I bought the eight sleep on it's first generation of a cooling pad, when they shipped it with a mattress. The mattress it came with was insanely soft, but the combination of the topper with the very soft mattress worked out to be a great firmness. Without that very soft mattress I think it would be far too firm. Unfortunatenly without the eight sleep cover the original mattress is almost impossible to use. It's so incredibly soft it's uncomfortable, and holds an insane amount of heat... which leads me into the next problem. Having used the generation 1, we experienced nothing but problems with a comically short warranty for such an expensive mattress. Our first leak happened within 6 months, and then the second leak happened 10 days after the warranty ended. The worst part about the leaks.. once you take the cover off the mattress it's useless. You're stuck without any bed to sleep on, so instead you have to drain the entire mattress topper to even sleep on your bed without being wet. 10 days after the end of the warranty they told us they don't even manufacture the same topper anymore, so even if they wanted to replace it they couldn't. Thankfully after a few complaining calls they sent us the second generation topper, which lasted for about a year.. and then leaked. We were able to somehow get another replacement, but after 2 years the entire eight sleep pod started to fail. The pump for one side no longer primed or moved water.. possibly from running with a leak multiple times? It's hard to say. Unfortunately support was not there. It's kind of upsetting to spend 3000 dollars for a setup that lasted 2 years before needing to be completely replaced with a new mattress.
I'll also be returning mine. I really wanted to like it too but didn't like it for the same reasons in this video. I found my sleep was good the first week of using it but the next week I noticed that it was getting worse than before I started using the product. I realized it was because I had stopped exercising. I would recommend that anyone interested in this product try excercising daily, it really makes a bigger difference to sleep quality than any other sleep solution I have found!
The ability to control the Dock Pro manually is why we went with that product instead of 8 Sleep. Dock Pro is definitely not a perfect product either, though. But I’m liking it.
I finally got my Dock Pro today, so I’m breaking it in. I have a Teh Tai mattress which is basically chain mail with a light down padding so the Chilipad doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Fingers crossed it helps me with my hot sleep. A handful of factors led to me choosing the Dock Pro over the Pod: I bought a cover specifically for me (my P2 doesn’t have issues with sleeping hot yet and it made it a bit cheaper; maybe I can get my P2 their own further down the line on demand), offline functionality, and the fact that the sleep sensor & subscription is an add-on. I’m worried about the potential QC issues and subsequent customer service calls but it’s a risk I’m willing to take if I can make it through this summer.
Thanks for this review, hard to find unsponsored ones. Your experience mirrors mine, also tried the Pod3. The idea is great and i wish it would've workesmd for me, but i feel like the product just isn't mature enough yet
That was my thought. My husband is a wounded warrior who has damage to the part of his brain that regulates temperature and I would LOVE this to help him, but it’s out of our financial reach. Hopefully it will maybe become more common and affordable in the future.
@@irishamericanpinupdoll I know for a fact it’s an overpriced product. I have my own private label products on Amazon and this product should not cost anywhere close to the price they are offering it for. It should be a crime to overcharge customers 5000%. Their blanket shouldn’t cost more than a few hundreds dollars. The device itself shouldn’t be more than $400.
Thank you!! Everyone is saying how great the product is and no one refers to the comfort aspect like you did! I also like soft mattresses and if it’s firm is a big no no for me. Thanks again ❤
I have to agree with your review. I too invested in an 8sleep a week ago!! I have to say I am very disappointed. I really wanted to like it too!!! I am in menopause and thought this was part of my solution... It is really a concept but I think the subscription, checking my bright phone to adjust and, for me THE SMELL of plastic is a go back for me. The customer service is very poor. I can't believe someone isn't there picking up the phone at this hefty price tag!! IM SOO BUMMED!!!
Great review. Bed firmness is my # 1 concern on all beds. This honest YT review got me to search a bit more on 8Sleep and there are a few dozen reviews talking about how the top coils with water flowing through make the bed too firm for some people (some people being anyone who likes a soft mattress). So that just saved me $ 4000 and the issues of installation just to find out I would not need to throw it away. But for those peeps who do not mind a firm bed the 8Sleep sounds like an awesome idea = my wife wants it warmer in the room so I could have cranked up the cooling in this bed on my side.
what about putting the foam topper ontop of the cooling - it wont work as well obviously - but it might have given you the softness you need with some of the cooling too?
I’ve watched two videos on this product, I’m watching along like a connoisseur. Mean while I have litterally been sleeping on the floor with a foam camping mat for over a year 😂. It’s not that I’m poor, I literally just haven’t felt the need for an actual bed, the floor keeps me facing up and keeps my back and neck stretched out flat, seems natural.
I think more needs to be said about how they have changed their warranty with membership... The Pod 3 came with a lifetime warranty with membership and the 4 only comes with a 5 year warranty. That alone makes this NOT worth upgrading
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you! I sincerely appreciate your honest, unsponsored review. I had a water bed in the 80’s , with a “dead man’s” mattress - there would be no waves. It had a heater that we would turn up in the winter, and lower in the summer. I slept phenomenally well in that bed, but the weight of all that wood and water made me nervous, so when we moved we sold it. Personally, I’d prefer a real water bed. Additionally, a real water bed has a pool liner that contains any water leaks. I suggest you try BedJet rather than the 8 Sleep. It is phenomenal and I’ve slept so well for the past 9 months that we’ve had it. I need to sleep cool because I’m going through menopause. The remote that comes with the BedJet has three memory buttons that I can feel while I’m half asleep, to change through three preset temperatures. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
I have the pod 4 and same. I want to like it but I can’t. It can only cool so much before condensation becomes an issue. My sleep has become progressively worse since using it - even by their own measurements. Each day my sleep score gets lower. I’ll return mine and get a window AC instead.
How about an old-fashioned temp-controlled water bed - soft, can keep it cool, but not interactive. Granted weight and set up a problem. Also no cats with either.
The fact that you have to pay a subscription fee every month, on top of the THOUSANDS of dollars you pay for the initial purchase, just to use it is ridiculous. Don't buy this.
Great honest review. Delivery is atrocious. I had 2 wait almost 2 months. The latest version is an improvement based on what you are saying on comfort and the needing to use the phone to adjust things. I actually like it
You know what that's really shity they should have refunded the cover price. You should sprayed it with water hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol and donated it to somebody
Seems like it would be a better idea to integrate the tech into the mattress itself, that way there’s no uncomfortable topper that feels like you’re laying on tubes.
