The timing of this video is excellent. I've been feeling guilty about not being able to follow the 8 hour work day standards and endlessly comparing myself to people who spend all day grinding at work. While I know that everyone works different and I believe that working 9-5 is an old system which isn't relevant anymore, I still wasn't able to convince myself that working at my own pace is actually OK. I lacked an example of successful people who didn't spend all day grinding and worked in a way that worked best for them. And I can't think of anyone better than Einstein to take example from. Thank you for making this video ♥

Einstein's habit of napping reminds me of the naps we used to(more like forced to) take in kindergarten. I say we bring back naps for us college students lol! This was an interesting routine, and you made an amazing video out of it as always. As a physics student, you hear about Einstein all the time, so much that he becomes commonplace. I think there is a shift happening in the YT productivity mindset : it's going from doing more in as little time as possible to actually do as less as possible while being just as efficient as before. That means more time to rest, for leisure or anything else than work while having the same economic output.

Not conforming but staying open to suggestions and appreciating others uniqueness. I have endured many hardships. Different job after job. But i stay the course. The long road. Seems to be my desired path. And all this time i had no idea one of my most respected teachers was living a similar life, and maybe just maybe theres hope for me yet...thank you for creating such a great perspective on the life of Einstein.

Loved how you brought up the idea of the long game, or as I have also heard it called the long haul. It reminds me of a book I read about Robert Lak, an American poet, hermit? mystic? who spent most of his life in Greece. He was described as someone who when he ran into difficulties did not try harder or do more work, instead HE SLOWED DOWN, HE WAITED. This video was inspiring.

The only moustache look kinda looks good on you! I recently changed some of my habits(not resting enough... basically the hustle culture), inculcated some new ones(mainly sleeping atleast 9 hours a day,walking a minimum of 7kms) and I have seen that I am much more calmer now,my mind seems a lot clearer somehow and I get way more work done even though I am resting a lot more than I did before. Love these videos of yours!!!
@theoldaccountthatiusedtous6767
It's great to hear about other people who sleep a lot! So often I hear people kind of judging that, like they'll say "oh I WISH i could sleep 8 hours a night!" And yes I realize it's a privilege, but it's also a priority. No way I'm going to heal from trauma on only 8 hours of sleep, I need 9.

Yess! I love this series. This is my most favourite one yet. I can really relate to what you were talking about in this video. I too used to think that pulling all-nighters and burning out was a badge of honour. I used to think naps were useless and that resting was only reserved for the "weak". But, I was forced to slow down during the pandemic. I realised that I was so much more creative and productive when I prioritized rest, my mental and physical health above work. Setting boundaries at work and prioritizing rest has definitely been a challenge for me but I think we all need to realise that we can only serve the world as much as we are able to serve ourselves. Although I still struggle with stopping myself from falling back into the hustle culture mindset. I haven't uploaded a video on my channel in a few weeks since my full-time job has been quite full on lately. I feel guilty about it but I know that I shouldn't push myself. How do you deal with these types of challenges? What do you do to rewire your brain to always put rest and your health before productivity?

One thing you left out about Einstein. One of the reasons why he slept so much. Was because he was a Dyslectic. His level of Dyslexia was pretty severe. Back then one of the ways to cope with Dyslexia was to sleep more the 8 hours a night and take napes. We really didn't know a lot about Dyslexia in the 30's or 40's. So many men that had it back then, they learned how to work around their disability. He was truly special in his ability to rise above his Disability and change the world for the better.

Quantity over quality is very much attached to America's idea of productivity (and pretty much everything else), in my opinion. Feel like in Europe, when it comes to all area's of life, not just work, the emphasis is more often on quality - i.e. work intensively and fully immerse yourself in what you are doing, but when you're off, you're off. I think this is why a lot of European countries (see the Scando nations) can achieve the same results as the US in terms of production, tech., etc., but with reduced working hours and higher quality of life for the average employee. The focus is not on doing a lot, but being efficient and doing it well - within short(er) periods of time. Just my observation.

Productivity per hours worked actually are the same in Western Europe and the USA. But the US guys works too much (in a day, with less vacation, and in a lifetime), so they have a higher GDP per person employed and more GDP per capita. I think in the Einstein case, and some other big names in all societal areas, what they trade is a good flow of solid, career oriented results, for a high-risk strategy of trying to deliver big. He could have ended up not as a professor, but he went for big ideas. I'd say that, actually, the US society is way more sympathetic to risk taking and weirdos than Europe.

This is quite interesting but I think fundamentally the reason for is the currently prevalent capitalist philosophy of the west to maximise wealth. Back around the enlightenment times, the prevalent humanist philosophy seemed to allow for the main goal in culture to be to find the truth and the consequence was a great amount of big ideas and advancements in mathematics, science and philosophy as well as great art, literature and music. It makes sense that the prevalent philosophical goals in the culture would be what drives the types and ideas and creativity. European society just seems pathetic compared to what is was a few centuries ago. US society only seems to be sympathetic to risk taking insofar as it is to the end goal of creating wealth. All the innovation and ingenuity coming from America seems to be limited to this. I don't believe any great (ambiguous word but I'm too tired to elaborate) advancements in any area can be seen without a cultural shift away from belief in the notion that greatest good humanity can create is material wealth and comfort and such a change in ideology in the West would take a lot to happen.
@undeadman7676
@undeadman7676 2 года назад
@@hewmat8758 You’re diving more into the philosophy of “worth” than a critique of capitalism. Even with your negative view of capitalism, it’s still hard to argue against the US being among the top 5% in terms of humanitarianism despite their tendency towards profit and quantity/quality. There’s a reason the most profitable jobs here are also the most beneficial to society, like medicine and engineering.

It's been so inspiring watching your journey of self discovery, especially since we're all in our own journeys. It's so easy to get yourself down and feel like you're being unproductive, but I've noticed that I'm happiest and feel my best when I just stop everything, go take a walk, breathe in the fresh air, and notice the magic that is all around us. It's always a very grounding experience. It's so easy to get caught up in all the crap that society expects of us, especially the financial aspect. I've been trying to focus wholeheartedly on my creativity, my happiness, and living each day exactly how I want. It doesn't always go how I want, but... I'm glad I've realized this about myself. When you strive to live up to other people's productivity and watch some videos to see what they are doing, so you can mimic it, you always end up with a long list of things you need to do. I always tend to forget all mentioned the hacks and strategies for a more productive life. Maybe the secret all along was to simply rest more and be chill about it. I just have one request and that is if you would share some of your hard times in transiting from US to Italy, France or Argentina for example how did you know where you’ll be staying, how did you find the places you stayed? Did you have friends or family helped you along in those countries? How was your first weeks or months in the places you stayed, how did you deal with the difficulties (i.e., buying food, dealing with money exchange, loneliness?) How did you find connections with others did you simply through yourself in the mercy of others or did you pre-planed everything ahead of time, that is where to stay, how to get by (did you have a support?) It makes a lot of sense that he slept so much. Quantum physics is about going into the unknown and the unseen, and in order to receive information he needed to keep a literal “ open mind”

I have been away with youtube for almost a month, and I only used it when I need to learn new things (e.g: Programming tutorials). I haven't used it for entertaiment purposes, and I am so glad that after almost a month of not using it for personal pleasure, this is the first video I see. I am always amazed on how you can adapt in different types of life style. In my opinion, lifestyles are a part of ones history, people wont really learn who that person is not until they learned about his lifestyle, his daily life. Its funny how our generation struggles with different kinds of lifestyle in front of us, theres the hustle people, the go with the flow people, the minimalist and many more. Overall, great video! You never fail to amaze me with all your experiences and the way you share it to the world is fantastic.

I've not seen a video from you in a few years and I'd like to say that your content has changed into a very positive direction. I think moving away from a fixation with hyper productivity was very important for me, it allowed me to take a step back and grow into a healthier person. I'm glad to see others have found this too, and I'm glad you didn't just end up glorifying Einstein as some superhuman. You gave a pretty fair portrait of him.

Hey, I am a Physics student from India and would be a Physicist. I am following Dalai Lama's daily routine as shown in your video. From waking up at 3:30 to going to bed at 8:00. It increased my ability to study more everyday. According to me it's the best routine for students and academic teachers. Thank you so much. Love from India❣️.

The Dalai Lama abandoned his home country where he presided over thousands of full slaves and millions of peasants. He never made significant efforts to help Tibet. His exclusive message has been that people should talk to each other and be kind. Great.....

I would love to see you do a video like this on one of the most eccentric men who have ever lived : Salvador Dali. The way he balanced social expectations with the his commitment to flourishing as a professional is really eye opening. From his obscure taste in food to his complex relationship with producing art, I think it would really put your patience to the test lol Great video by the way.

I think the real lesson of this video is not to follow someone else's life because their great or influential but to live your life how you want to and without social constraints just like Einstein did. Also to get plenty of sleep.

I think the role of sleeping the life of Einstein and other great thinkers has a few important aspects. It's not as if sleeping a lot by itself will make a person a better thinker. But if a person is spending much time thinking hard and persistently about something, then sleep has a few important roles. First, it's an energy issue: A person who spends much time thinking very hard about things will become very tired. Hard thinking drains you out. Secondly, sleeping helps thinking: It is a moment when the brain rebuilds itself, by creating new connections between the brain synapses, and thus refining the brain´s capacity to work on the issues that one is already spending his entire days thinking about. So, if you are a person who thinks a lot, about deep problems, sleeping will be essential both for recovering energy and as an elixir to improve your brain for the kind of thinking you're doing.

When I work longer days sewing I take micronaps when I found my self spinning out from a challenge or burn out. Einstein was the muse for the idea that got me thru those times. Also I resonate deeply with your insights of this project.
