I have installed a pair of the Elite 29er Pro36 on a Scott Spark RC and really like them. Having front/rear suspension any perceived uncomfortable stiffness is not an issue. In full lock out it becomes a little more apparent but not uncomfortable and the tradeoff with better control and directionality is definitely worth it. Doing a non-stop 60 mile ride yesterday just confirms my views. The Pro hubs are very good and I have just had a close look at the build quality and regreased the rear with no issues. I would certainly buy them again.
@EvansMTBSaga
@EvansMTBSaga 4 месяца назад
Yeah I think they would go perfectly on a full suspension, not a hardtail like I'm running. I've heard a lot of people run them on an XC bike, I didn't think 1550g was light enough for XC but I'll be darned

I have the Elitewheels Pro36 29ers and I love my wheels. I have been running them for over a year and have had no issues. I have had some rim strikes and even had a pinch flat with no issues on these wheels. Just like Evan I have had rocks come and smack these wheels all the time with no issues. These wheels are stiff but I prefer that. It gives more feed back of the terrain and has helped me better understand when my tires are slipping out. Before I got these wheels I was running an aluminum set and my tires would just slip out from underneath me because i was getting grip and grip for days then none what so ever. It was like a light switch grip then,no grip. Like he was saying you can feel the slipping of the tires before you lose all grip and slide off the trail. There may be something to that extra feedback and feel because, he was able to get that KOM back with little time on the wheelset.

I have a set of Elite wheels on my shorter travel trail bike. It is so lively and fast. I recommend adding a Vittoria airliner lite in the rear. It will soften the sound of the wheel a bit and also add a little insurance for the rim. Elite is awesome when it comes to their warranty. I had a wheel delaminate along where the tire seats. Elite sent me a full placement wheel with hub and spokes. Talk about awesome.

I shattered a carbon “XC”rim from BTLOS. They replaced it with a more “trail friendly” rim, I’m using it as a gravel wheelset. I replaced it with a rim from Light Bicycle, another Chinese brand. Very pleased with the quality and durability.
@fpeter01

Trail wheels on a gravel bikes make sense. I will also use a Trek all mountain wheelset for my new gravel build. You can refurbish old (pre-boost) 27,5" wheels. The wheels weren't confidence inspiring on trails. They were OK, but after I tried a dedicated downhill wheel at the front, I also had to change it at the back. The bike holds lines a lot better.

BTLOS send me the wrong rims but did not hassle on the refund so no major issue there. Light bike, buddy had rim that just collapsed in on itself, very light use. All of these brands have poor QC compared to a company like Giant. If you are OK with saving on that, thats fine.

I've been very happy with their Edge Carbon Ultralight 50mm deep wheels on my road bike. Very light for the price and seem pretty compliant for road wheels at least. No problems with around 3000 miles so far. Strong crosswinds can push them around a bit, but nothing unusual for deep section wheels. I got them from Amazon, so shipping was fast.

I've bought 2 sets of elitewheels and ride them on very rough Colorado front range difficult and extreme trails with drops and rock gardens much gnarlier than that on my Stumpjumper Evo and Trek Fuel Ex-e. I don’t think a carbon wheel will ever feel as soft as a good aluminum rim wheel and steel spokes will never feel as soft as Berd spokes. With that said, I have a set of custom Berd Spoke wheels with wide RFace alloy rims and I’m going to buy another set with the DT Swiss alloy rims. I’m not opposed to carbon rims and some branded Zipp and Stan carbon rims. They’re nice but let’s talk reality. Aluminum has flex that carbon rims can’t replicate.

I also have the Elite Pro36 wheels on my YT Izzo Core 3 and they are fantastic. They brought the bike down to 27.5 lbs (no pedals) and they have been flawless. Regarding stiffness, I did not find a huge difference between the stock DT Swiss M1900 and the Elite wheels. Besides, coming from hardtails and rigid single speed race bikes, the full suspension Izzo feels far too smooth to worry about wheels stiffness. I ride at 19/20 PSI.

I worked in composites for a few years and I can tell you that even with the same quality control, if you use sub optimal components the end product suffers. Some materials may not absorb the resins properly and even basic materials used to stage and create the product can affect it.
@grinchy888
@grinchy888 4 месяца назад
It's the spokes. Those bladed spokes are very stiff, I'd never run them on anything MTB. And coming off Berd, everything will feel stiff. I'm on my 3rd set of generic home built rims, which cost even less than these retail sets. The new hotness is the 'no spoke access holes' which don't require rim tape, as there are no holes in the tire side of the rim except the valve hole. Also have three open mold frames that are working out super well.

I still can't get over the stigma of Chinese "no name" or small name carbon.. A few years ago, a competitor with the Police and Fire games had a "blowout" on a 50mph downhill due to a wheel failure, and died. Of course, the company he purchased the carbon wheels from was long gone, and the family had no way to pursue litigation. Combine that with the "Aliexpress" effect of subpar carbon bars, posts, etc., and I'm still not ready to save a few bucks...
@tom93r1
@tom93r1 4 месяца назад
This is why I won't trust cheap Chinese no-name parts. Name brands have to worry about potential lawsuit and are more likely to have a quality product they can stand behind. Fly-by-night cheap knock-offs don't really have to worry about paying out to family of somebody who dies when a cheap wheel, frame, handlebar, etc fails spectacularly and their product quality will reflect that.

My buddy cracked a 1350 g carbon fiber wheel set when he slammed the back wheel into a curb at about 230 pounds bodyweight… in spite of a visible serious crack. He continued riding that wheel tubeless for over a month before selling the bike with the cracked wheel still completely rideable. The myth that every carbon failure is catastrophic needs to die. I’ve been running the same light bicycle carbon front wheel since 2016 and I’m 210 pound aggressive/fast rider. I’ve slammed it into rock garden so hard that I exploded the front tire instantly and all I have to show for it is a tiny flat spot on the lip of the rim. I’ve destroyed aluminum wheels doing far less than that.

why are u not combining them like aluminum in the rear and carbon in the front tecnically shouldnt it give u the advantage of more smallbump sensetivety in the front because of the love weight of the wheel meaning less mass that needs to get moved and a stronger more forgiving aluminum wheel in the back because most of the time at least form my experience the rear rim gets alot more abused and dinged on obstacles only downside would probably be that the bike would maybe be a lil bit more rear heavy but especially in a HT i think this would be beneficial

You shouldn't have reached out, they often have higher quality versions to send to RU-vidrs. I remember a video about a chinese carbon frame where the viewers complained especifically about this and the frame he bought "privately" wasn't as safe as the one they had sent him
@fpeter01

I didn't feel any difference between carbon and alloy wheels. If you are a bike nerd, you can buy them. I only bought them for experinting. The wheelset was 180+160=340€. You can barely buy a decent alloy wheelset for that price. After the industry ditched 27,5", parts are crazy cheap.

The mini air pump is a scam for seating a tubeless tire. It’s just the rim tire and rim tape combination
@MiguelGonzalez-kt5mg

Oh man, i was thinking how cool was that pump and almost bought it to seat my first tubeless setup
@EvansMTBSaga
@EvansMTBSaga 4 месяца назад
How can you say it's a scam? I demonstrated it. Tires and rims these days are made with tighter tolerances and seating beads is very easy (most times)
@McSchwabl
@McSchwabl 4 месяца назад
@@EvansMTBSaga because it’s not a alternative to a floor pump. The air flow is ok to pump up a already seated tire or when the rim tire combo is right. It may replaces a mini pump

Almost ALL bike parts are made in China. My son and I use Chinese "foreign" made carbon forks, hoops, and handlebars on our BMX and MTB. We've never had a problem and we get a 1 year warranty.

Nowadays when buying bike parts 90% of the time I buy Chinese brand stuff and only touch the mainstream brands when I find them for at least 40% off. Screw the (formerly) inflated price of name brand bike parts, screw the show-off fashion show aspect of the sport. I'm not a top end rider so most of the marginal drawbacks of Chinese brands are lost on me, I just want to get on the trail for a reasonable price.

Yeah the sale ended a week or so ago, still marked down $200 from their retail price and I could see it going up to that soon. The T6 has been a mega hit since it was released

The lesson to take away from this is nothing to do with China, just cheap wheels. If you only have $700 to spend on wheels then stick to aluminium.

As an avid buyer of cheap cino carbon ELITE wheels are not the best value you can find cheaper or better built. Note that I didn't say cheaper AND better... Gotta be realistic 😂 I love my 9velo wheels but they ain't that cheap
