I feel like you should do a part two with more NZ lollies ... Pineapple Lumps, K Bars, those stripey rainbow coloured lollipops, Minties, Jaffas, Coke Bottles and Spaceman sticks etc
Babs Dabs in the white bag with a straw lol - we had them in the 70's and 80's too. I live in the US now and you can still buy powdered sherbet like that in the South.
@@KylieMackLA Thanks for your reply. That's it yes sherbet dabs. The licorice straw too. I childhood treat for me in the 1960s. I would buy one and a bag of candy at the cinema. Go and see Elvis Presley on the big screen and suck on the straw. The only thing is sometimes i would choke. Ha!.
We bought lollies for 1 and 2 cents back in the 80’s. Lollies were mostly soft chewy miniature versions of things like airplanes, milkshakes, raspberries, coke bottles, snakes, fruit, gross mint flavoured leaves. Hard chewy K-bars and Hubba bubba bubblegum in fruit flavours. And spaceman candy cigarettes - but they didn’t taste like cigarettes lol
When I tell people we used to buy 5 cent and 10 cent mixes, they look at me like I'm 100yrs old lol. Remember Mint Chews, Caramel Chews, Toffee Milks, and getting Babs Dabs - sherbet in a little white bag with a straw? Aniseed Balls I still love! I feel like most kiwi kids' memories are lolly and biscuit-heavy lol
A lot of these weren't around when I was a kid, tastes change, some don't, the rock hard lollies were never a favourite. We had candy coated Peanuts , fake Lollie cigarettes, Spaceman drink bottles,so much more.
Hey Curls, I think you might have to do several of these to go by generational years because none of these were even around as our childhood classics in NZ. As godrickgryffindor352 states K Bars (Whittakers brand) Spaceman sticks, Coke bottles, Milk bottles, Minties, Jaffas, Snifters (no longer available, unless u get a snifter lump) aniseed wheels were our go-toos as kids in the 60s/70s/80s.
It's generational. Remember the fake edible ciggies? 70s , 80s -Sparkles, Lifesavers, Bonbons, the bag of zingy tangy sherbert that every kid in 1972 suck through a liquorice straw? The 'gay bacon' had me! Sara Jane might be the most gorgeous product 'sweets taster' I have ever seen on YT. Not that I'm into sweets and lollies themselves much now. A tic tac (I think I had) about 4 months ago.
I forgot about tnts. Going to have to buy some now. I don't know if these still exist or not. But Tangy Apples were a good sweet that I remember from when I was a kid. There was a tangy grapes flavour too.
Wish Red skins were still around but razzoos are alright i like the watermelon chewing gum 5 gum and the paint brushes and the smoke lolly things they are like soft as
I'm old, those aren't classic NZ lollys to me. I don't even think the fruit bursts are (not sure what year they came out). Wish you could try Snifters, Tangy Fruits, k bars, the old-fashioned milk bottles (not the ones you get these days), Sparkles, leaf Lollie's, plus many others I can't remember the name off. around 2010 a dairy in NEV had all my favourite childhood lolly's, not made up in packs or anything, you could go in and ask for any amount of any kind of what I call 'true lollie's'. Not sure if he is still down there; that was back in the day when they still did the Jaffer race in NEV.
There are a number of international food websites based in NZ which import UK confectionery. You might be able to pick up some of your favourites for your next sampling video.
I'll never forget a mum being sent in to a shop to buy 'gay bacon' by her offspring. She was terrible embarrassed when she asked if they had any and was asked if she meant 'Rainbow Straps'!
back in the 60s ... YES, THE 1960s LONDON as a child we used to get Black Jacks and Fruit Salads in a small wrapper. The black jacks were so moorish and were 4 a Penny (😂) and were DELISH. We also had a JAMBOREE BAG which was basically a cheap plastic toy with a load of cheap awful sweets. There was a Triangle Ice Lolly called a JUBBLY and was beyond difficult to eat as it was like a Triangle crossed in a Triangle but were the Fads of the 60s. I think a LOT of UK SWEETS have been brought over to NZ and RENAMED to another brand so not sure what that's about but Goodness Gracious, Countdown have got packs of Chocolate covered Liquorice bullets and Whoa, you can't just eat one or 2, it has to be the whole pack. I have to laugh when people talk about 1999 to 2005 and say BACK IN THE DAY 😂 1960s 😂 YIKES !!!
Crikey. I feel old. We used to get 3 lollies for 2 cents in the 70s. Used to find empty drink bottles and cash them in. Amazing that I've still got (most of) my teeth. 😊
Hey Curls Can you go to the brits sweet shop down petone get some proper sweets black jacks rehburb custards stewberry bomb bombs and see if Sarah likes them and what she prefurs nz lollies or english sweets. Im from Essex and have been living in Welly for 10years
“I’m gonna be a bit harsh with these ratings” *gives far higher ratings than I would* Just messing, maybe they’re just right to his liking either way glad you enjoyed 😄
Those zombie chews look unreal. The texture reminds me of my favorite UK lolli as a kid, Wham bars! If you know about those and can get them on the UK version that would be incredible!
This cracked me up so much. Great just great! My teenage girls follow the lovely Sarah and I can see why. Awesome teamwork you two. FYI kbars milk toffees bottle milk etc
Feijoa lollie, Macintoshes, Raspberry twists (Not really NZ lollies but so good), Aniseed wheels, Eucalyptus lollies, and all the lollies @godrickgryfindor352 mentioned.
@@michaelmarama-de4gx yeah I sadly remember, just when I see or hear about people trying old school lollies I have some extremely fond memories of Ka-Blueys
Really depends on which generation's childhood *facepalm* No sour lollies or bright colours, no plastic containers or sprays in the 1970s Fruit sticks, candy bananas, Jaffas, Snifters, Cool Mints, teeth, milkshakes, milk bottles, aniseed wheels, wine gums, Smarties, 'Explorers' (www), smokers, barley sugars, Sparkles, butterscotch, Deck chews, Tingles, Lifesavers, Astronaut 'Sticks' (LOL), jet planes, pineapple lumps, black liquorice straps/twists, chocolate fish, Toffee Milk, K-Bars Some are gone for good, some have had name changes. I was not allowed pocket money so I could not buy half-cent lollies. Mum would come back from the dairy with a white paper lolly bag. I was hopeful.. until I looked in the bag and it was liquorice straps... again.
I'm glad I don't have to eat that shit anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live outside brissie.. er now.. after 45 years in sydney... and can buy pineapple lumps and curlies.. so HAPPY...
I've not seen any of these lollies, the kiwi sweets look grouse!!! I've said it before but NZ should suspend curls passport and don't let him ever return to the UK , I suspect he'd be ok with this scenario
Most kiwis on here haven't seen them either, they're not classic kiwi lollies at all, they're just lollies from the dairy lol. real kiwi classics are so good, scroll up and you'll see a ton of them suggested on here :)
Pls dont hate but i reckon nz lollies have been a little yuck then what they used to be theres still lollies i like though i said that on my last comment but except for red skins cause you cant get them anymore
