Check out Rungne ► rungne.com PewDiePie video from Mitake ► • PewDiePie shocking eve... Shot and edited by Sam Tuck / samtuclimbing I tried Japan's most famous outdoor bouldering, Mitake.
Magnus, it is interesting that you speak about your tendonitis (tennis elbow by the looks of it), since you seem so indestructible to us as your viewers. It would be very cool, and insightful, to have your thoughts and/or method on recovering from it, or at the least finding a solution for it. So many of us climbers deal with tendonitis, and there are so many different ways of resolving it so it would be interesting to see how you would go around recovering from it. Keep up the awesome work, love the second channel!
Would actually love to hear how you deal with with tendinitis aside from just a long break. Have been dealing with it for quite some time and all I’ve ever hears is just to give it a 4-6 week break.
@@Gatoredwards Maybe I can help you a little bit. I overdid my training once and had severe tendonitis in my left triceps that would not go away with just rest. My opinion regarding any inflammation of tendons is that rest is one of the worse things you can do. The solution to my tendonitis was basically stretching the muscle with very light exercise. To be exact i did reverse pushups while standing, leaning on a wall. To apply that to other muscle groups just do the reverse of that muscles job. for the bicep that would be a reverse pull-up, but in such a fashion that it is very light and you progressively increase the exercise's difficulty. I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT overexert during recovery. If you use to much weight you will aggravate your injury. I have read that most tendonitis stems from overused muscles that tense up and cause overstretching of tendons. This in turn causes irritation in the tendon which leads to inflammation and tendonitis. It is quite common in tennis. If you are prone to tendon inflammation I strongly recommend to stretch after every session.
Was thinking the same! I have been dealing with tendonitis for at least 20 years on and off, and it prevented me from bouldering for at least the last 10 years. Only recently I started bouldering anyway, as I am adamant to learn how to cope with it. Just love it too much. And as Dylan said, you seem so indestructible, it actually gave me hope I can keep on bouldering as well! Thanks for sharing! ❤
@@MCbobo132much appreciated. I workout quite a bit and climb 2-3 times a week. I know slowing down to recover is the best way to go with some targeted stretching and recovery for it. I think the mindset of taking time off is the hard part. But will definitely try this.
Magnus outdoor bouldering videos are rare, but such a treat. I understand, that filming these exclusively would not be a hit with your subscriber base and would get dull. But sprinkling in one or two or even a miniseries where you try your hardest on a sick project will always be welcomed by a good chunk of the audience. And I guess in terms of filmmaking it would be a very interesting challenge for you as well to make it visually appealing and engaging with all the uncontrollable factors of the outdoors
Magnus! 4 days ago I climbed my very first boulder ever! Immediately I felt in love with climbing, I had so much fun. I appreciate everything you do and post for us. It's super fun to watch you, learn new things and explore things I would never think about. Big up Magnus and thank you for being you. (yesterday I climbed my first V3!!!)
The boulder's called "watashi no ie" (私の家) which translates to "my house". I'm guessing the guidebook wrote the romanji capitalized like "Watashi no Ie" which is a natural but funny mistake to make. Nice sends!
doesn’t watashi mean me and ie mean no like the opposite of yes, and no in japanese is possessive? this language makes me feel dumb, i read it as “my no” which is accurate because i could never
Magnus time traveling continues! I predict the next video will be on the Hannah morris channel. We’re being spoiled with collars lately, then there’s this awesome video. Thanks Magnus!
Yay! More Japan stuff! I really like this more candid blog style stuff, just more climbing content and more of what’s going on in your life and behind the scenes. I love the content on the main channel and this stuff nicely adds to it.
Cool to see more of the stuff you did in Japan. The mellow tone of these super chill outdoor videos are my favorite. Please keep them coming. On another note, you describing filming schedules on trips like this puts things into perspective a lot more. It can be hard for the audience to see just how jam-packed the trip is when the videos are released on a more spread out schedule. It totally makes sense though that you’d want to get the most you can out of the days you have there. I will say that some of the more recent videos have left me wondering if you’re a bit tired or stressed or something as they feel almost rushed in a way, but you mentioning how much sleep you’ve had in addition to days and days straight of filming kind clears up that concern (😅). I think that’s why I enjoyed this video the most out of the ones you’ve posted from Japan so far-the vibe was just so chill. 👍🏼
This second channel is so great. It's like you're really interacting with us, and it's cool to hear you talking to Sam as well. Hearing you be a little more open with us about what's going on with you makes the video feel more wholesome, and I think it's something we all appreciate. Good luck to you my friend. Keep moving onwards and upwards. P.S. that slab boulder was SICK AF!
i would love to see more videos of magnus projecting certain problems. I know that the schedule doesn't allow for you to spend 10+ days on a single problem, but your ability to communicate with the audience on your thought process is second to none.
Magnus, of course we'd love to see more of this!! Particularly compelling are those times when you can share with us, such as the mention of tendinitis and how to use street shoes as just that little extra coverage for padding. We love seeing you excel at climbing, but what keeps us involved is hearing what you're thinking and feeling - that's when we feel most connected to you.
that would be sick. I would love some more collab with girls anyway. Would be fun to see a ballarina try bouldering or a female gymnast. I am sure they would rock on slabs.
What an amazing video! These outdoor/bouldering heavy and super candid style videos are always my favorite. So excited for the second channel to exist for this content! Keep it up Magnus, you keep my psych high 👌
I went bouldering in Mitake last year and it was incredible. Beautiful place with very kind people and so easily accessible, the boulders are literally right outside the train station. Not only that, but it's just a local train from Tokyo! Extremely easy to get to from anywhere in Tokyo. The guidebook is in Japanese and English which makes it easy to speak with locals also doing the same problems.
If the boulder at 11:35 is the most polished boulder you've ever seen, go to Niagara Glen in Ontario, Canada... that place is like climbing on natural duotex.
I have dealt with tendonitis before and the best solution I have found are eccentric exercises with an assist in the contraction motion of the muscle. It depends how severely degraded your tendon has become because if it is really severe the best exercise is isometric exercises till the tendon can start to take some load. Then move to slow eccentrics, I use like 5-10 pound weights (use whatever weight is considered light for you) with negative wrist curls only and a self assist on the way up. You can either do either lights weight sets of 15 for like 3 sets in a day coming to 75 reps or do heavier weight and less reps. It can differ from person to person. I would also recommend stretching the muscles all around the area. I had lateral and medial epicondylitis (golfers and tennis elbow) so I would stretch my finger, wrist, shoulder, and neck. It is all one big long chain that works together. I promise if you are consistent with stretching and exercising and PROPERLY RESTING it will heal. A proper rest for a tendon is around i believe 36-48 hours for net positive healing. Leaning on the side of 48-72 hours is better but too much rest will let the muscle degrade. It is important to make a schedule and be consistent. It is finally also very important to start slower rather than faster. If you go too fast you will just end up aggravating the nerve and make things worse. Feel out your body and trying to understand it. It is okay sometimes to work through a little pain if you find that it is getting better and the pain is dissipating. Make sure NOT to do your exercises to failure because then your tired muscles is going to leave all the work for your tendon which is already full of micro tears. You can also do soft tissue work around the different muscles and look for trigger points. I did a lot of fascial release work because I felt like I had a lot of fascial adhesions throughout my muscles. I use either my own hands, balls, and blades to strip muscles. If you want the best source on tendinopathy I would recommend the book Overcoming Tendonitis by Steven Low. It is really educational guide to understanding the science behind tendons and how they work. I know what it feels like to have that burning hot wire running through my whole arm. It really sucks. Best of luck to all of you dealing with those squeaky tendons. I would honestly love to hear the opinion of a world class climber who has definitely dealt with this issue before.
How are people already commenting? The video has been up 5 minutes and it's 17 minutes long 😂 so far it seem like a great video as usual, love this channel!
1. I agree with enjoying going to nature when visiting new places!! It's what I prefer!! 2. I'll echo what other people have said about the tendonitis. It's nice to hear about it bc I also suffer from it (seems chronic idk) and it's weirdly comforting to know that you also suffer from it - it feels very human of you haha
It would be awesome to watch you try some of the most iconic hard routes like 'Sleeping Lion', 'Bibliographie', 'Perfecto Mundo', 'DNA', etc... You got this man!
These videos are so good. Love them. Keep it going. It really pushes me right now to train like never before and becoming the climber i always dreamed of. Pure bouldering at its best. Greets from Germany
I'm pretty sure I was in mitake almost the exact same time as you Magnus, at least the same time as when you were there with PewDiePie. I didn't have any shoes or equipment to climb but there was so many outdoor climbers it was an amazing place! I didn't even know it was famous for her boulders. Quite a shock when I saw you upload the video with PewDiePie walking up the same paths I had the week before, haha
These videos feel really personal. Really vlog type with some pains/injury. Also the prep work before taking pewdiepie out here. Gives me the confidence to also go out from the gym to the outdoors. Really cool!
6:15 looks so easy to climb! It reminds me of the group of big boulders down at Lake Michigan that I used to climb up - just a few simple big steps - and it was a perfect place to sit × relax! I am definitely not a "climber" but I like these videos.
I should add that I am an ER Physician and the standard rest, ice, anti-inflammatories and elevation of extremity doesn't work for me primarily because I refuse to rest it, haha. Basically cannot follow my own medical advice. To clarify, my tendinitis is "flexor tendinitis" of the flexor digitorum profundus muscle insertion on the medial elbow which causes pain upon flexion of one or more fingers as opposed to golfers or tennis elbow which are medial or lateral epichondilitis injuries that occur primarily with wrist flexion, extendion, pronation pr supination. My guess is many of us try to rest it but fail in that part of the treatment (maybe just me).
This is the content I love! I found Magnus through his climbing videos after getting interested after seeing sport climbing in the Olympics (which has spiraled into me watching World Cups, the Wide Boyz and becoming an Adam Ondra and Alex Honnold fangirl) so climbing is all I'm interested in when it comes to his videos. Loving seeing more casual climbing videos, please keep them comung!
Thank you! This was a nice and relaxing video :-) just chill outdoors chatting and climbing. Some of the best parts of climbing in my opinion is being outdoors and hanging with friends.
Cool to see some more outdoor bouldering from you. I really enjoy these videos on your 2nd channel😊 Have you maybe thougt about comming to avalonia one day?😅 would be cool to see you there
It's so great to see that you started this channel, because this content here is the content I initially subscribed to you before. Sure, your new style of videos on the main channel is kinda fun as well, but its not very climbing focussed and I wanna see hard climbing
Magnus you have been an enormous inspiration for me. I have booked my first bouldering session for this Saturday and I'm so excited but a bit nervous. Thank you for all your wonderful videos Update: I did my session and it was so much fun! I climbed my first boulder and I have an enormous respect for all climbers (even more than before because I’ve tried it myself now) because damn they’re strong! I can’t wait to go back to get better and stronger! 🙂
sick video man love to see you bouldering outside. would be so stoked to see another collab with pete/wideboyz outdoors some day. would be so cool if you did another trip to america and met up with Anton again as well.
I really appreciated you mentioning your tendinitis - I’ve been getting it badly recently and been wondering how the pros avoid it. Would love for you to talk about it and provide any suggestions on how to handle it!
Great video! When you mentioned Jakub, it made me think; I would actually love to see more lead videos on this channel! Some of those classic old quarantine videos of you and Marte in the gym were some of my favorites :) Loving the content lately.
It would be cool to see how people interact when they meet Magnus, because he is one of the most famous people in this niche and has also often been the best in his country, so it would be cool to see people happy meeting someone as cool and incredible as Magnus, even the Magnus being very humble about it
Awesome, in the beginning of the video I was thinking to myself, would be nice if you showed the progress of completing the Boulder, fails, the hardship of each one. One of my favorite videos from a while from you!
Magnus You talked about making videos with Jacob etc. I think people would like to see You with Janja. I personally would love to see You together climbing!
You're the reason I got into climbing and I have loved watching you and your channel grow and will always love watching you but if you have tendonitis you should really take a break for a while before you do some irreversible damage. You're working yourself too hard, Magnus!
