Uyen, you said that german boyfriends parents do almost every time coffe and cake when you visit. Well, it is common courtesy to offer this coffe and cake time when you have visitors that you appreaciate( or at least some cookies or sth.). Most Germans actually abandonned this everyday coffe and cake time nowadays because they don't want to gain weight. It is still a kind of tradition on sunday when the family gathers for a lot of families. Of course there are still families doing it almost everyday but most germans - especially the younger generation does not do it anymore for themselves but only when they have visitors- it is part of the hospitality. Imo it stirrs from war times when food was extremely scarce only rich people could afford coffe and cake(inspired from british tea time). So after the war and when industrialisation hit people became a bit richer and could afford it in order to show off they are well off to others. So this developed from a sunday coffe and cake time to an everyday activity. At those times the beauty standard was still more on properly fed women and men (because this means you have money!) which made it easy to balance this - you also might notice that mostly the very elderly people endulge in coffe and cake very often (if their health allows it). But after the baby boomer generation health problems showed up(diabetis and adipositas) and the beauty standard slowly changed. With this a lot of people abandonned this for health reason, beauty reasons or simply because the could not afford it anymore. It became more popular to go on vacation in other countries so people started saving up for that. The ideal of being rich because you can regularily afford coffe and cake vanished slowly. It remained as a hospitality custom to show off that you spare no expenses for your visitors.

@@sarahlongstaff5101 The difference is you only go for 5-10 minutes trough the cold water not a whole day like you would do on a marble floor. After the Kneipp-Kur you would put your socks and shoes on again and the blood circulation will make them fast warm again ;)

@@sarahlongstaff5101Now, I don't know if there is any merit to any of that, but I think a lot of out saunaculture is about extremes for a short time. Fun thing about the croissant: That's just what the french stole from the austrians/bavarians/swiss. They took what was known in the southern german and german speaking areas as "Gipfel/Hörnchen/Beugel" (or Cornetto in Italy), slapped a whole bunch of butter into it, complicated the dough making process into madness with adding even more butter into it (creating the puff pastry dough base) and copied that pastry with even more butter. But the origin is somewhere or everywhere between southern Germany and the very northern tip of Italy.

Try eating some cranberry jam with the Schnitzel the next time instead of Ketchup! The combination might be unexpected at first, but it tastes good, and I've had it served this way in enough German restaurants to be pretty sure that's quite German as well.

Dutch people used to eat more soup, vegetable soup at the start of dinner. maybe if you are always eating soup you feel a bit dehydrated if you just eat bread, soup stays in your stomach longer than most drinks.

Every type of German food I saw in this video is what people usually eat in Russia too. But for lunch we eat hot soup as a first dish: borsch, soup with potatoes and chicken, rassolnyk, vegetables soup, totamo cream soup, ukha (soup with fish). In childhood I hated soup. But since about 16 years old I can't leave without soups. When I eat soup I feel happy. One of my favourite second dishes for lunch (or it can be a supper) is chopped into little pieces chicken'breastes with canned pineapples in tomato souce (better use tomato juice) spiced up with the mix of pepper and spicy red pepper powder. It goes very good with mashed potatoes or with white rice. Usually we eat this dish in autumn or winter, so because fresh vegetables are expensive, we eat home pickled cucumbers and tomatoes from jars wich were cunned prepared in summer. Older people also love to eat homemade pickled watermelons, but I don't like it.

In France, as a child, we had soup every day with pieces of bread soaked I it. Like you, I was not very keen, especially when the vegetables were too chunky. Nowadays homemade soup is a treat for me, I could eat it every day if I had the time to make it.

About the Kneipp Kur (walking in the cold water) As far as I remember it should help with circulation and blood flow. The cooling of your feet and lower leg for the short time has (I believe) tha same idea behind it as when you cahnge your shower von hot to cold and so on (Wechseldusche). Might not be 100% correct, as I only have my memories from like 15 years ago or such^^° As I child we drove 30+min just to go to a spot with Kneipp baths. They had different kinds. My favourite were long rocks, that were like steps you could walk up and down in really shalow water. The water was direkty from a stream in the woods. There was one where you put your hands and lower arms into and one that was deeper (Middle of upper thigh, as a child I was swimming in it) We always kombined it with a lovely picknick as a family. Sadly we never visited again, after my grandpa died. My mother has medical issues, were she can't go into cold water. My grandma can't swim and barely ever went into the water and my friends think it'S boring ^^°

Uyen amazing recipe use the cresant rolls, roll out dont cut leave flat top with a mixture of cream cheese, cooked spicy ground sausage, green onion, bell pepper cut minced. How make the mixture cook (1lb) ground sausage then when done and still warm mix in bowl with cream cheese (8oz) and green onoin and half bell pepper mix together. When you have mixture on cresant doug (will need 3 containters) roll into log freeze for 10 min then take out cut into little pinwheels then bake (: Great appitizer!

You should pour any carbonated bevarage the way german boyfriend did because it allows the carbonation to stay in the liquid better. With beer in particular, too much broam and it's flat; too little broam and you'll feel bloated and eat less. Cool to cold beverages keep carbonation better.

To be fair, it's not that out there, croissants au jambon are a thing, so making a more rudimentary (croissants au jambon are old croissants, opened and filled with bechamel sauce, ham, shredded cheese, sprinkled with shredded cheese on top, and grilled in the oven, so example in the video has less steps) german version, I wouldn't do it, but it's fine. I prefer croissants aux amandes to croissants au jambon by far, but, well, if bakeries still make them, some people must like them.

@dermaniac5205

@@vomm I don't know anyone who puts it in manually, but bakeries just make it with ham and cheese already baked into the croissant. In German bakeries it's known as "Schinken-Käse-Croissants", in France it's known as "Croissant au jambon fromage".
