Yo Deen! This is awesome! I played for the Maryland team back in 1988-1990. Our team went to Korean and won the whole thing. I couldn't go because I was only a sophomore in high school at that time! But it was an amazing experience. I'm in OC now, not too far from you still playing in your area! Rep Cali STRONG my bro!!!
Super cool! Good luck man. I love seeing ways to make soccer meaningful and important to people even when probably no one is getting paid. There are Asian teams in my leagues and they are always fun because they show up with a fan base and they are there to win. They make the games really fun to play.
cool this popped up on my feed, representing the Toronto team that'll be there (only Canadian team to participate). also 전국체전 is definitely a thing (the Korean National Sports Festival for Koreans outside of Korea!). Our team represented Canada and won silver back in 2022, great experience. funny cuz we played the Japan team, and although they came from a Korean lineage, they all looked and sounded Japanese lol. the other teams we faced were just like us, looked Korean but can speak their respective country's language (German-Koreans, or Brazil-Koreans etc.)
small world. I was on the Missouri team and a bunch of us were on the sidelines watching the finals. Those cali and NJ boys played their hearts out haha the intensity was insane. Might see you in vegas on the washington team.
The language thing that Deen talks about is a real thing amongst Koreans. If you're not like them they close up, which doesn't make sense because whenever you play with a Mexican team and you don't know Spanish everyone is super welcoming.
“I rise and falls to the level of my competition” This always happens to the Mexican National Soccer team😂, I wonder if this has to do with the fact that you played with a team of Mexicans during your youth.
The judging on americanized asians is real lol. Played for my schools chinese team for a bit and they did not fw me cuz i speak good english even tho i grew up in China lol
