For using $20 materials this looks amazing. It looks better than some of the other materials I’ve used that were around the same price.(not all paints and brands are created equally)
@@recoveringsoul755 to open it the first time is a bit tricky but moving the plastic sideways between thumb and index finger helps. Flat part is the bottom and rounded part is where the opening is.
@@DerangedDoodler you shouldn't use stuff that's not explicitly marked food safe to carry water or food! you could leach dangerous chemicals from the coating into your body over time. please stay safe 💖
the company is so generous for giving all of that for $20, on average that would be at least be $45 😭 ( also now everytime i see Ke Huy Quan i can never unsee Waymond from everything everywhere at once 😭)
Its not really generosity. For example, it's unlikely they'd just send some unknown RU-vidr with 10 subscribers this kit. It's all a marketing ploy: popular content creator shows product, compliments it, gives positive opinion, and their viewers will want to buy it. In the end, they spent $21 while getting hundreds in return. That said, as long as the content creator is giving a genuine opinion, I'm still happy for companies to do this! (Though I will say, I don't have the most positive opinion on Himi because their jelly gouache kits are so poorly put together. NONE of them close properly, and the gouache just dries out.)
I come from Indonesia, so Miya art supplies are the ones most people can afford without emptying their bank account. Personally I don't like the watercolor set, but hey I have that exact white gouache! My family always confuse it as some kind of drink haha
I was about to sa how expensive it is (ig for me lol) i thought 297k is considered expensive but if it comes with a full supplies then ah its worth it...i think ill just use a kid's watercolor i still have from elementary 😂
Hi, fellow Indonesian here. If you don't mind, what watercolor are you using right now? I love their gouache but a little bit hesitant in trying their watercolor
Thank you so much for painting Ke Huy Quan! He has been an inspiration to me since i was little. Just letting you know that it means so much to so many people that you paint asian role models during AAPI heritage month.
@@arianemetayer2066 I'm saying he's a very skilled artist and it doesn't matter whether he uses a cheap art set or something premium. It always looks great in the end! Also the green in the background made me kinda hungry.
EDIT: Oh no. It sold out! I spoke to Miya and they are trying to get the link working again. I feel horrible for them. For anyone wanting to check them out.... amzn.to/3My9L71
Honestly, I've been using their "jelly" gouache for two years now and I have never made a better investment in an art material. It's good quality for what you pay and it allows me to learn gouache freely without feeling like I'm wasting big buck, specially since I'm nowhere near being a professional.
Omg Thanku so much Scott... I've been switched to coloured pencils since a few years and I wanted to give a start to watercolours again and this is the best supplies I could ever get❤🎉
@@arianemetayer2066 well, as I said if aska wants to ho with the flow of gouaching over watercolor, their brand is nice ^^. Personally I started using gouache exactly because I'm doing watercolor
I wonder if you've ever tried Gansai tambi? It's a brand of Japanese watercolors that can work like gouache with low amounts of water. They're not exactly 20 dollars, but I've been working with a set i was gifted on Christmas for a few years already. I occasionnally like trying out other brands, including really cheap ones from the dollar store, but these I always come back to. I hope my work is good enough to "honor" them, lol
I was honestly a bit skeptical too when you mentioned the whole set was *20 dollars*, most companies would charge about 50$ for a set like that! Ke Huy Quan still turned out great, though!
Such a great job! Sets like this really are important when it comes to making watercolour accessible for beginners. I was recently having a conversation with the teacher who runs the art club at my children's school, and he told me that his main exposure to watercolours was in elementary school, and that the paint and paper were of such low quality, that using them turned him completely off the medium to the point that it had been decades since he'd thought about trying them. I donated some student grade watercolour sets (similar to what you used in this video) to the art club, and he was amazed at the difference they made to the painting experience. He tried them out (and so did the students) and now there's a new group of people in the world who are excited about watercolours, which makes me sooo happy, since they are basically my favourite thing.
I also recently got one of the packages but instead of watercolors, i got gouache (my package had gouache, brushes, eraser, 2 canvases, the black and teal thingys, and a thing of white gouache to refill the white color when im running low- oh i also got a spray that helps mold from growning on my paints) Also the teal/black things is to hold your brushes to let them dry if you open them (i had to looks this up as i also didnt know what these were for🤣) Also your painting in this short looks amazing! Edit: the package also included 2 pencils that are 2B and HB
Love how you try out inexpensive art supplies. It’s hard to tell how well they will turn out. Glad you are such an amazing artist that really puts things to the test.
Miya is a lovely brand, I'm in love with their jelly gouache. I like the brushes too but they have it weird in amazon in my areas so I'd have to pay more for 3 brushes than for 24 gouache set that includes those brushes :(. And I found no refills outside of alliexpress that wouldn't have bonkers prices.
Very good nonetheless ^-^ while the color’s definitely didn’t blend like they normally would. I feel it made the shades pop out more individually! It could be a cool experiment to see if you can create a piece where you have a specific focal point on a face you’d like to have.
For $21 this seems like a awesome gift to get someone from a kid who wants to explore art or you want to just introduce them to art.......all the way to a adult. I mean even if they decide they want better paints, there is still alot you can still use that is worth $21
I genuinely love this channel. Your work is amazing, and listening to your stories and reviews is just calming to me. Please make sure you never stop doing RU-vid!
I think it still looks great! Your lineart style feels like the most defining feature of your work to me, so really any medium that you try out looks really nice usually
Thanks for being both empathetic and honest about quality vs price. It's awesome to see pro artists showcasing affordable stuff, and you are one of the few who does so with an optimistic transparency and show tips for how you got the best output from basic materials. Amazing little portrait too!
I love seeing you try affordable new art supplies! Makes it much easier for people to make informed decisions with how you explain them. Hope you're doing well in the hobbit hole!
For a long time I've believed artists who practice and tough through the cheap materials will do better with the nicer materials. In highschool I interpreted this as a way to tell people that more expensive stuff was not some magical shortcut to being "good" at art.
I love your paintings. They always come out so well. I tried watercolors a few times, but they're tricky since they're water based. I'm better with a acrylics.
maybe it's because I'm biased towards your work as it is my favorite but in my eyes that final piece was phenomenal! I still respect your unique perspective on things like this still!
🙂My hopes were raised & immediately dashed. ☹I've wanted to try their jelly goache simply because I'm mesmerized by their color selection. I REALLY want that light orchid. I was hoping the color pallet would be the same. That set looks like so much fun & I would've purchased it even though I don't need it for the pallette & the colors 🥺.
