Thank you so much! And YES! That's mainly due to the rhythm section intensifying the pace and increasing the speed a little. Bruce pulling back on the vocals on those first two lines to make them feel more deliberate... I don't know if that was something planned or if it came out naturally but it's those subtleties that really made these songs so huge!

I think it's partly because we are so used to hearing it from the Rock In Rio version onward with that slightly looser, more relaxed feel that it's easy to forget how tight the picking has to be kept throughout on the original. Also the tightness of the riff is contrasted by Nicko's loose-but-tight feel so you have to be mindful of it as you're playing along.

That's actually part of what I'm talking about in this video, when I say they had a tighter and more aggressive pick attack back then. Since he rejoined Maiden, I've been seeing Adrian play pedal point riffs with downstrokes on the bass notes and upstrokes on the notes or chords above - Like the Wicker Man riff. I've adopted that myself because I like the bouncy groove you get. But in the 80s both Adrian and Dave downpicked the whole thing except for the last upbeat which has an upstroke to restart it more fluidly. That's how I'm playing it here and why it sounds more like the original version. When I play it live I usually start the song the old way and then play mostly the newer way on the verses. I kinda like how that works 😊

Thank you for the reply, I now know for sure that the last upbeat it's been always played upstroke. I've always done so, but I wasn't sure they always did this way... it's sometimes difficult to see this stuff on old videos. Up the Irons!!! _|m/

Thank you! The only effect on the rhythm guitars is a little compression and a hint of reverb. The lead guitars also have a bit of delay. Otherwise, it's just the amp with not too much gain and an overdrive pedal with the drive at about 3. The rest is all EQ - boosting the high mids and just cutting a bit of the lower and higher frequencies a bit.

I hear that Lalal.ai is supposed to be even better. I'll have to try it! For the price, Moises is quite impressive though!

A lot of bands has used very similar riffs to this one, I know of several songs where they have used it or very similar to it, its a classic but I prefer the way Maiden uses it of course =)

Just a few small details... Mainly the ending which I had completely ignored previously - I was just playing the same thing as Dave's part. And the riff I like to start it with tight downstrokes like the original and then kinda alternate between that version between verses and the way Adrian picks it nowadays during the verses.
