STEAM Deck is an actual a PC on a mobile- feel and just like a PC I can use import all my games that is non-STEAM based and I hope Valve would actually work with GOG on this one as well. CDProjekt better work with Valve on STEAM Deck because it will also help their market since half of their market are also using STEAM. So it's no brainer to work with Valve when half of your market is also using STEAM to capture more customers. EDIT Game-Developers who are low-funded like me would definitely want GOG to push forward on working with Valve on a cross platform. ---- Give us STEAM and GOG cross platform on STEAM Deck as well this will allow us DRM and DRM-Free crowd to do what we want to keep our games.

Luke had some very logical input on why the screen resolution should've been bigger in one of the WAN Shows from a few weeks ago, but yeah Linus really convinced me in this vid that Valve made the right choice here. A small screen like that still looks plenty sharp enough for high motion gameplay at 720p-ish resolutions with the benefit of also not stressing the hardware out like 1080p would, so you have some flexibility on settings vs framerate as opposed to trying to make everything work at 1080p and just hoping you can get the settings just right to at least be able to hit 30 FPS.

If done right, I can see the deck easily sweeping the market and beating the switch. The deck has way better specs and more options for customizability. It also has the steam library which is a huge improvement over Nintendo's puny game market. The fact that you can plug in a mouse and keyboard and dock it in like it's a pc is just the perfect icing on the cake. This is the future of handheld gaming consoles. Nintendo has been way too complacent, refusing to innovate, refusing to even change their UI. The fact that a custom linux os is running gives me hope that we'll be able to customize the system like adding themes and programs. Compare that to the switch where we can't even change the UI without locking out the system, this is a breath of fresh air. I really hope valve continues down this path, they have the support of the wider gaming community who care about customizability and choice. They don't have to open source anything, just give us the ability to choose

This is why I love competition. Nintendo has had a complete monopoly on the portable gaming console for years with no competition. honestly, the most attractive feature of the steam deck for me is already having a comprehensive library of all my favourite games. the experience of buying a console (the switch for me) is always soured by those first few weeks with very few games and little reason to play it over your pc
@OneThousand98
@OneThousand98 3 года назад
That's kind of your own fault for not buying more games when you buy a console (the switch for you) though? I have like 300 games in my Steam Library, but most of them are total garbage. I actually play two of them, Civ 6 and PuBG. This handheld would be absolutely awful to play Civ6 on, and you might be able to get PuBG to work on it, but the framerate would be low and graphics settings would need to go to low / medium. Even still the controls on the Steam Deck are awful for FPS games, so I can't see myself playing PuBG on it... Whereas on the Switch I have Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW, four great games which work really well on handheld / joypad controls. I think the biggest issue the Cleveland Steamer has is that most PC games are not in any way set up for Joypad control. Those that are, are usually low-budget indie platformers which are just... meh.

The reason Valve’s stuff is always good is because everything they make is a glorified tech demo. They made Half life to show off innovation in FPS games and storytelling. They made the Marketplace to create a sustainable economy that they fully control and profit from. They made the Index to prove VR is a viable platform for gaming, and then made Half life Alyx to prove AAA quality games are totally doable in VR. The Steam Deck is a giant F U to Nintendo’s extremely strict running of the switch, and also proves that portable gaming doesn’t need to sacrifice the freedoms of a PC. Valve is a good company because they innovate on ideas whether they go somewhere or not, and because of that they have an amazing portfolio as far as tech companies go. Valve understands that the gaming industry is what pushes consumer technology to progress. Gamers demand more and more from their computers, squeezing every last frame and pixel out if it means more immersion.
