if ur a beginner in custom keyboards i would suggest the k617 from Redragon. It's hot swap and has really nice rgb. It doesn't come with preinstalled foam so that is something I would suggest modding but it's really budget-friendly and coming in at around 40-50 USD. Once you do foam and tape mod you can really make the board sound better.

I got bored of the hobby ages ago now and unsubbed from the channels as there's not much that can be done with keyboards. Its not really a hobby tbh, its just about trying to find a board that you enjoy typing on and once you have done that you can move on till it breaks. Which is a long ass time. Its a good thing boards are getting cheaper and cheaper, I paid a total of 500+ for my board and now you can get things in the 100 range that sound close enough to it and look close enough. Sure my build quality will be slightly better... But people wont notice that when its on the table, same as my fancy weight.

9:17 I wholeheartedly agree that it feels like EVERY super budget keyboard is becoming the same... And while I don't see it as a bad thing, I think its great that newcomers to the hobby can start with something that sounds THIS good, on the other hand, it kind of ruins the fun I found in the hobby originally when I brought a cheap alu case and a GK61 Kit back in 2018/2019-ish... Back then my build ended up costing around 200 dollars! and it sounded AWFUL! but watching sound tests and other builders on RU-vid gave me a drive to buy a better board, try out new lube and switches! etc... I Still watch every new video Hipyo puts out, I know that I'm not really the target audience of most of the boards he reviews, I strongly value: uniqueness, modability and barebones kits... But still these videos are like comfort food for me heh...

But the community wouldn't grow if it stayed the same back then. I for one just started last month and bought my first pre-built keybs and now I'm looking at feker ik75 to build my own from scratch. Being able to buy a pre-built one and experience a decent keybs on a budget instead of starting from scratch and experimenting is quite an easy way to drag in someone to the hobby. I actually want to build my own now mostly because I enjoyed swapping keycaps and it's fun and now I wanna go deeper to switches and perhaps modding by myself as well

I think it's good for those of us who are poor. It's never been easier to get a decent board for under $100, that you can just use right out of the box, but also allows you to mod it, swap out the switches, etc...but the focus on 75% sort of sucks. I'd like to get a good 65% (my cat will not be happy with me if I get anything bigger than that, and she runs things here, so I can't upset her)...they do exist, but they're certainly not as easy to find and there aren't nearly as many that are as good as the recent influx of 75% options. Long term though...It does feel like many of these are the same, but at least they're all decent so far, and you can make upgrades and changes to get it to where you prefer. I'd just like to see them remember that other layouts exist.
@Miss_Wonderful1
@Miss_Wonderful1 17 дней назад
I noticed too that lately it's a lot about 75% (when I got into the hobby 3 years ago it was mostly 60%). I would love to try a flex cut pcb, 65% would be great, because I don't need the F row at all, but I can't find anything budget friendly. Also, living in Europe, I need to pay attention to shipping costs that are often half the price of the keyboard -_-

Man, as much as I love your stuff, you've gotta stop with the reviews sponsored by the same manufacturer you're reviewing. There's an inherent bias there that makes me completely disregard any thoughts you have about the product, regardless of any disclaimers you make about the sponsorship. Obviously, sponsored content is part of the content creator ecosystem, and we're never getting around that. And that's also fine, but don't do sponsored reviews. Do a sponsored showcase with the rest of your ramble about the foam/mods vs stock etc, instead.
@HipyoTech
@HipyoTech 18 дней назад
Totally fair response, I really don't have a way to convey how little the sponsorship effects my thoughts - but I'm incredibly privileged in that I have overwhelming demand so I can be incredibly strict with my sponsorships. Before a video goes live there's already been a few layers of scrutiny to see if a brand or product is a good fit. I'm not afraid of losing a sponsor due to negative thoughts because it means I can just work with other brands that are more exciting, if a brand makes a boring or bad keyboard I probably don't want to work with them anyways... Also, most of the time I have them pay beforehand to avoid any fear of backlash. This means that I actually do lose out on quite a few brand deals who are afraid of negative feedback but its a really good filtering mechanism. (I lost out on $$$$$ from Temu for example) - This is something most tech reviewers cannot do as they don't have any leverage. (again I am very privileged) But ultimately, if I product is genuinely bad I don't work with the brand in a sponsored context as I don't feel its fair - a good example of this is the Logitech keyboard where they offered to sponsor me. A fine line is stuff like ASUS where I can say that their decisions are bad and they use it to improve future keyboards.
@Butterwichtel
@Butterwichtel 18 дней назад
@@HipyoTech It's already a massive win for the brand to be featured in one of your videos, even if sponsorships have zero impact on your opinion. Meanwhile, brands that can't afford to sponsor you are less likely to get reviewed and get eyes on their product.
@Jackofafewtrades
@Jackofafewtrades 18 дней назад
@@HipyoTech hmmm. I can see your reasoning, and usually it's pretty clear when a review has been very tarnished by sponsorship, and this one doesn't seem to have been. I'm still a little sceptical (sorry) but I appreciate that you're aware of potential bias and have taken steps to mitigate it. At any rate, a lot of the info in your videos is very useful, regardless of sponsorship, so I respect that.

One would expect that competition would drive manufacturers to innovate, but it seems they all do the bare minimum but cheaper. Cheaper is always good, but lack of new features makes it boring. Hey Hipyo, any chance you could review the Pulsar 60% ISO barebone. I would be very curious what you think of their keyboard layout. (because in my opinion they made some very odd layout choices)

I literally just got a barebones one of these 2 or 3 months ago, and it sounds LOVELY with Boba U4Ts :) I had a little issue with the driver at first, but after the hiccup it has been excellent

Unrelated to the video, because of you I've now fully plunged myself down the custom keyboard rabbit hole. Made a keyboard for my home office and now my keybard at my office at work just doesn't quite do it for me anymore haha thanks a lot

I'm still waiting for banana lemokey p1 pro and mint keys to be back in stock. What's the point of better prices if no one has em. 🤦‍♂️ The struggle.

I have one! I love it. As a financial thing it however can’t hold a candle to the Zeiyoulang K68 that I purchased for less than $20😅
