I Tried using an IKEA Couch to make a Camper Conversion Bed
In this video, I attempt to use a cheap couch from IKEA to build a converting bed for my ford transit connect camper van. Unfortunately , after doing a lot of designing, building, filming, and editing, I was unable to make the project work. in my next video, I address these issues and rebuild the bed to be the ultimate replacement.

I found a recliner for around 400 bucks on sale, and I can use it as a chair or a bed in a van. The recliner is remote controlled and will almost go completely horizontal.

Where did you find that recliner for only $400??? I want one that can be slept in. Most "recliners" don't completely recline. The sleeper chairs go back to flat.

😂 Well, in case it’s useful in another build some time, an old trick to stop cut edges of fabric from fraying is to use clear nail polish on them.

Good, old~fashioned school glue works too if it's not going to be washed too frequently. Though for this use, I would have gone with the original gray check and/or possibly glued a strip of stronger fabric on the area first before cutting it. Gluing some ribbon around the area after would help reinforce it too. Many options. 👍

It was worth a shot, Ikea furniture is inexpensive and easy to work with. I've been designing a similar small van concept, and I put a bench that slides out to be a twin-size bed on one side, and a cabinet on the other side; though, the layout you decided to use is also very popular (I see it on a lot of professionally designed small van builds)

I am in awe of your skill and inventiveness. Honestly, I probably would have given up and found a good hammock to sleep on and just set up a mounting place for it, lol. 😅 😂 ...Hammock in the van might be fun even if you do already have a couch/bed though. There's something about a hammock that's just so relaxing, you know? BTW, have you considered using an adjustable bed frame in a van? You know, the kind that lets you adjust the back and legs? Might be interesting if you could find one that fits. Would probably have to be the kind you hand adjust rather than the electric kind (because you'd probably need to make adjustments) but it could be cool and comfy. Though I think there are plans that could be found online to build one out of wood which you might prefer considering your skill set (since you could then adjust the dimensions to fit). 👍 Just FYI, looking forward to the RnR bed! 😁
