Great art, as usual, but the best way to display it, in my opinion, would be to shine a bright light from the side to create shadows with the relief. You should use the remaining Mentos to do a sculpture by gluing them together or a crazy one shot display using cola bottles.

I love the double meaning of "fine". I also love how the creation process accidentally drove you down the rabbit hole of independently rediscovering circle packing. One of the beauties of fields like that is that they're universally replicable. Circles (or oblate spheroids in this case) anywhere show the same behavior no matter if they're theoretical circles on a chalkboard, or candies on canvas.

@@alispagnola Then you might also like knowing that the earth is also an oblate spheroid. The speed of Earth's rotation gives it a little bit of a bulge around the equator so it's not quite spherical (even aside from mountains and stuff).

I got to experience a Torres piece (the one with the green candies that looked like a rug) at the Dallas Museum of Art in the early 00s. The idea was so simple but I’ve always loved how profound the art: every single person sees a different work because as one person takes a candy it changes for the next patron. I wish I’d learned more about the artist. Modern art-especially sculpture-rarely makes me feel things (which isn’t to say sculpture is bad, just that by brain is too literal to regularly see what the artist intended) but that one has stuck with me for 20 years. I wish I’d kept the candy now. 😂

One of my favorite candies. My 9yo is obsessed with the fruity ones and I love the minty ones. Never tried the kind in the green packaging. Too bad they were expired, unless they were? Only thing I disliked about this was all the wasted candy lol It looks awesome though

Wow! Ali, you have super will power. If this project were mine -- and I had leftovers -- no problem - I would start eating them! And - a question: Are you going to preserve or protect the art with clear lacquer or something? I wouldn't want any ants or other critters invading your house to feast on the candy.
