@@mr.electronx9036 Eh... The situation is actually pretty comparable. The PS3 has 256mb RAM and the GPU has dedicated 256mb RAM. The Xbox 360 has 512mb RAM but only 10mb of eDRAM. Consequently, the Xbox has to share RAM with the GPU. Xbox is closer to internal GPU laptops, but the PS3's weird configuration is why multiplatform games often performed worse on PS3.

Drilling more holes in the outer case on the top is about the only effective option he has with the exception of somehow adding some external fans to improve cross flow but with the lack of space the system is creating convection (like heat swirls around in an oven) and it will eventually cook the CPU and will experience major thermal throttling in the GPU as well. While very cool this is just impractical due to the nature of PC components. This is why most PC cases are much larger that the parts you put in them!
@RegalPixelKing
@RegalPixelKing 2 года назад
A part 2 would be really neat. Still though, hitting 80-90+ degrees on average will definitally hurt the lifespan of your components. If there is a part 2, if you somehow magically find a way to clean up the IO and make the temps more managable then that would be cool. Still, due to the space constrants I don't think it will be possible to get good power, noise, and heat distrobution. Maybe, it could be possible to get 2 out of the 3, but not all 3.

I would try to fiddle a bit more with the CPU and GPU undervolting and maybe try toswitch the small fans from exhaust to intake (without the shroud, it might not work very well in bringing cold air where it needs to be). Its interesting to see how your approach was different to mine (and much cleaner. lol) I've managed to internally have my PSU, keep regular motherboard standoffs (which I superglued to the case) but i've yet to solder the front IO (as I don't yet have a solder). Hi, great idea and very unique project. IMHO you should make many small holes just above the CPU fan (and if possible above the GPU fans). This will help with the temps and probably keep the OEM look as the Xbox already has small holes in other parts of its chassis. However, my experience with the Ryzen 5 5600x is that, whilst it is a low tdp cpu, it 100% needs a very good cooler, otherwise it gets easily to 90 degrees celcius under load. The stock AMD cooler cannot provide adequate cooling to this CPU.
@adventureoflinkmk2
@adventureoflinkmk2 2 года назад
Yeah was gonna say I did the same thing to a digital Dec PC, and also ran into 90 degrees C temps, on both a Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 7 5800u. Custom fitting a 60mm 10000 RPM server fan inside and control with a potentiometer (believe me full speed sounds like a got dang jet engine) as well as using a low profile cooler pretty much made things more manageable. EDIT: and yes indeed the wraith stock cooler didn't help one iota, most likely due to the hat thing over the fan as well as the barely there clearance

Nice build. You can definitely drop 10c or more if you just drill some holes where the CPUs at and make sure the GPU also has ventilation. With your CPU cooler fan oriented that way, it's trying to suck in air thats blocked off so it being 90+ is not surprising. In regards to that EVGA card, the hot air is exhausted through the side fin stacks so a combination of more ventilation and small fans to help direct it out would help alot. An A2000 GPU would probably work well as its less than half the vol of that and takes only 70W or so. Definitely give a look at some of the SFF Yters, they've done some great builds in that size or even smaller. Would definitely be cool to see a part 2 where you polish and shine this up a bit!

So, something I would have done was just mod a mini pc. They have some very powerful ones you can buy that don’t have a built in gpu, and they’re a lot cheaper, then if you wanted to, you could get a usb and PCI converter kit and a physically smaller gpu and hooked it all up for a more compact but still powerful gaming pc setup. Plus more room for cable management and air flow, and power supply management would have been easier too. But your project was still great! I loved everything about it and the amazing work you do on this channel man! Never stop dreaming and never stop doing what you love! This is truly a passionate art project. Very cool! This is an inspiring project :) As far as thermals go, there are a few things I would try. First would be to use a blower style GPU, so that most of the heat generated is dumped straight outside of the case instead of the current GPU which dumps its heat inside the case. Then I think creating as much natural heat dispersion as possible would be a good shout. Adding mesh to the bottom of the case, or creating little gaps in inconspicuous places. Enough of those will add up to some decent ventilation. I noticed that there is also a fair bit of meat left between the factory ventilation holes, so drilling each one out to a wider diameter will take away a decent amount of surface area of the mesh, while still looking stock. I think trying to squeeze another 40mm fan into there could also work if you got some low profile RAM. Using at least one of the fans as an intake might be worth a shot too. If you weren't too picky about keeping it looking totally stock you could add some feet to the bottom to give a nice airflow gap. You could even incorporate some thin width fans underneath to force a good amount of air into the case. Either way, awesome build! ^_^

Such a cool idea. I respect the lengths you went through to get it to work, including cutting and soldering. Impressive!

I know this is a year old, but here's my thoughts. If you remove or modify the rear io shield, you could route the power connector to where the original power input went, and maybe even mount it so it's not just a loose wire. Alternatively it looks like there'd maybe be room for another 40mm fan there. If you're okay with using 3D printed parts, I think it would be cool to have a white custom backing plate to completely replace the scuffed up backside. Though I'm not sure you'd be able to seamlessly attach it to the rest of the shell. Also not sure how, but if you could move the dc power converter a bit to the left, you could make or find a custom circuit board to get your two front USB's back

This build is so cool! I love the small sleeper build. Thank you for sharing with us! Id love a part two with better cooling and maybe a cleaner IO setup.

I think it's awesome and would love to see more if you're interested. A mini PC in an 80's Nintendo shell would be awesome.

Flipping the CPU fan upside down would prolly make it cool a little better, most fans push air down across the board, in this setup it would be better to pull from the across board and up out and trough the 40mm fans.

Kind of unrelated but its funny how the concept of time works depending on your age. I didn't have a 360, I had a PS3, but I was 26 when I got it. I really don't have any nostalgia there, when I think about getting my PS3 and cranking up Street Fighter 4 it feels like that was last year, lol. I'm 42 now. Its funny because in my early 20's I would have Nostalgia about things when I was say 12 or 13. It seemed like EONS ago at the time and it was 10 years. Now 10 years ago feels like yesterday. When I was young, 10 years ago felt like an entire lifetime.

It's actually easy to see why you never got the Red Ring of Death. You ended up lucking out and getting a late model Jasper system. If you look at the back of the console, you can see the power port has 2 seperate guides on the very top, and missing the one in the middle found on older systems. The manufacture date is also post august 2008, which is when they came out with the Jasper motherboards. These consoles EXTREMELY rarely if not any of them got the red ring of death. That is why you were able to push it to it's limits for countless hours, and it never fail you. Just some professional input. :)

Honestly It would be super cool to see this with an old original xbox one since those are fatter and theoretically could make really great cases for a itx build

whats crazy is i have a Dell Inspiron One 2020, which is a all in one pc, and i was wanting to build a custom "gaming" pc, but didnt know where to start. This video helped alot, if all that could fit in a old xbox 360 then it can easily fit in my pc. the only issue i was having was figuring out the psu and i had no idea something like the one in this video existed, so thank you lol

This was one of my projects back in 2011 when the first APUs from AMD arrived. A X360 gaming PC without a dedicated GPU, but it was so powerful that even Battlefield 3 runs at very high settings. Good old times

Very cool to watch this episode. The server cooler and fan would make a world of difference, if you are OK with the noise. I would have liked to see you do some more to really finish it up. I'm new to your channel and this was the episode that got me here and made me subscribe. Keep up the great content.

It would be a good idea to create a Series S style opening above the cpu. Change the direction of the blades or perhaps install a fan with a larger radius. you will draw out that warm air, and create a subsuction through the sides. I assure you that that CPU will lower its temp, including the GPU.
