I did a 4 string with an old guitar. Made it fretless and rounded the neck edges, It's my favorite instrument now.
@davidgreenwood6029
@davidgreenwood6029 17 дней назад
I'm building what is basically a 4 string bass on a short scale guitar, an old peavy t30, except it's going to be tuned like a baritone octave mandolin, so an octave and five steps down from a normal mandolin. I played something similar years ago and it was so cool, basically deep rich mando you could solo on, but also finger pick slap etc.

you can tighten the spring claw in the cavity on the back or the guitar or even add more springs to it to get the bridge to settle down.
@mal2ksc
@mal2ksc 4 месяца назад
Or just wedge it from inside the cavity. I found a d10 from a set of RPG dice works perfectly in my S-type when I want to essentially make it a hardtail. Maybe it won't work for everyone but it's super cheap to find out.

The timewasting money sucking games are like the least problematic of youtube sponsors. We've got better health that just calls the cops on anyone who says they have suicidal ideation at all, even if they aren't even close to actually considering it. We've got AG1, fraudulent scammers that get away with it because the supplement industry is unregulated. not to mention all the 'giveaway' sponsors that have actually encountered tons of legal problems for fraud.

Pretty cool, man! Take the springs off of the trem and stuff a stack of quarters (or bits or whatever you guys use) between the trem block and the body. It will make the bridge lie flat. I did this on my strat to increase sustain.

Sounds good to me, Danny. Up the tension on the bridge springs and get a block of wood in from underneath to "block off" the tremolo bridge. Remember that the higher the action, the more upward stress is put on the neck. One good reason for not doing this to a Fender Strat is that a major instrument vendor whose name vaguely rhymes with "Hear Your Music" sells an excellent bass VI like this at a very affordable price under a brand name that rhymes with "PubHero".
@shroomsandmetal

I converted a bronco bass to a bass vi. Filled the original tuner holes, and re drilled for some Squier VI tuners. Didn’t wanna deal with a trem, so I found a toronado bridge that fit exactly where the bronco bridge sat. I did have to widen the holes in the bridge and make it string through. Amazon sells a string through bar so you don’t have to worry as much about wonky ferrules. Pretty cool bass .
@janestewart9608
@janestewart9608 4 месяца назад
Either block the tremolo or add more/stronger springs and the bridge will sort itself out. that would also lower the action just a bit by lowering the bridge saddles.

I was actually inspired by your short and did this with my first guitar, which i've barely touched since i was 15. Now i play it frequently. Little thing produces some nice tones! There were already many dysfunctional things about it, so i figured that it might as well be a disfunctional BASS. It's nice to play it again after it had been sitting around unused for so long :)

If you decide to block the bridge, I found one really easy and quite reversible way to do it: dice! Find one that fits or make one fit by sanding it down. The density somehow seems really well-matched to the wood it's blocked against. I'd normally recommend getting a cheap sacrificial back cover plate you don't mind cutting a hole in, so you can insert or yank the block, but I don't think you'd be enabling the floating bridge any time soon. Set it and forget it is probably perfect for you.

Effin funny mate, the way that the things that you covered I see in me. I have always worn a Greek fisherman's hat since being a kid, people always thought that I was bald. I always made an exaggerated show of taking it off briefly through a gig to complain of the bloody heat and ran my fingers through my hair dramatically. I have always been flamboyant in the clothes I wear (in the main). There has never been a venue that some two hat hasn't wanted to kick my arse for being a raving poof (I am not, not that it should matter), married for 35 years, two adult children. Finally, two years ago, I did exactly the same thing with a strat, 😊, great fun 😁, I too did not think that it would stand up to the tension, but so far it has, 🤞. Like deployed 🤞

When I was 13 I started learning to play bass but I didnt have one. My mom had an old Gibson acoustic guitar that I converted to a bass. Took the high E and B strings off and that was how I learned to play bass. Learned from Grand funk, James Gang, Sabath, anything that had a loud bass in the mix.

CAN THIS GUITAR BE SAVED? Here's what I would do: 1) tighten the trem springs, then block off the trem with a piece of wood. 2) replace your tuners with Bass VI compatible tuners . No more vice grips! 3) replace wood screws holding on neck with machine screws and inserts installed in the neck. Not only is this stronger, you might get some added sustain. 4) if possible, install a metal plate on the upper wall of the neck pickup cavity to reinforce it.

Step 1 . Slacken strings. Step.2. tighten the two screws in the string claw right up, according to how it goes. Step 3. Remove some a spring or more from the claw.. plus as everyone else said , put a stopper between the sting block and the wood in the term cavity. The thing has a unique behs tone, I sort of like it, possibly the scale length is too short to sound like a "proper" slap.fiddle. Cheers.

My thought is to replace the bridge with a hard tail. I know that some people have the tremolo "blocked" (I'm not sure if that term is correct) to act as a hard tail but, I don't know if it would make that any more stable. Also, I ordered a bass strap yesterday. So, I saw this with the link a tad too late.

In one of my old bands our bassits kept flaking out on us, so we just tuned our guitars down to BEADF#B and played as a three-piece for years using baritone gauge strings. During one disastrous show I somehow broke a string. And guess which one it was. My E (or in this case, B string). I ended up putting a spare bass A from another band on to finish the set, and it was absolutely ridiculous because that's what, a .88 or something? I actually never bothered to re setup that guitar for any other tuning so it just hangs on my wall for decoration, with its big stupid strings. 80s Kramer I got for $100. Took a lot of abuhs, she deserves the rest.

Open up the back of that Strat, loosen the strings and block off the space between the bridge and the back of the routed out area so the bridge can't lift up. Should do a lot to keep the tuning from going out too.

Change springs to high tension springs, so that they pull the bridge down to a level position. If you don't know how to adjust the truss rod to accommodate for the increase in string tension, then leave it to a professional. Once the string tension has adjusted for in the bridge and neck, the next step is to adjust the string height at the bridge, and finally any intonation issues with bridge saddle position. Easy huh? Hell no, I get mine done by a professional. (because I've tried it myself, and screwed it up)

Take the back plate off, put more springs between the block and the claw (you'll probably want to loosen the strings first) and if the bridge is still pulled up like that, there are two screws holding the claw into the body, screw them in to tighten its grip, it hopefully should pull that bridge back down into place. Source, I'm a guitarist first and bass player second I and own 3 Strats, so I kinda know them

UK based Newtone strings would be a better bet I reckon. They make custom sets to order. Just give them the length and gauges you want. Also for the tremolo you could just block it off maybe? Or increase the tension with the two screws in the back.

Please put double or octa bass strings on your extra thick necked guitar like i did and use building supply to literally clamp down the strings with clampers then just use wide thick heavy washers and some sort of cut out bushing to damp it out then finally either use a huge wrench and three arms to crank all frustration out that nut and bolt without lockout nylon sealers and use the toughest glue ever to clamp that tense thing down for good and look away for good measure.
